GRONK
seems unlikely to play for the first few games. He still may be placed on the 53 rather than the PUP list.

BALLARD
is almost a lock to start Game One.

HOOMAN
is the utility TE, who can play FB and h-back.

SUDFELD
is someone the team would likely want to keep. The Practice Squad would be great, but the 53 is seeming more likely by the day.

FELLS
is someone who is likely to stay on the team at least until Gronk is ready to play.

I find it interesting that Yates has 5 TE's on the 53 and Reiss has 3.

I seriously wouldn't count gronk out from game 1. Ideally its better if he doesn't rush but he might be ready game 1.

I think being their similar size, and physique, Gronkowski and Ballard could make a bruising tandem. That's a lot of beef to cover our the middle or deep lol for any linebacker or defensive back. And also on a sidenote, Michael Hooman has only 5 catches, BUT for 129 yards.

I would include Brandon Ford on this list, of all the tight ends on the roster he offers the closest skill set to the serial killer. I don't see another player on our roster outside of him or Harrison who is capable of playing a joker tight end role, unless you plan to use Gronkowski there.

Gronkowski is the prototypical "joker" tight end.

I'd be ecstatic if we entered week one without Hooman or Fells, because that would mean both Sudfeld and Ford had great camps.

I anticipate they will start working Gronkowski in around week 4 and keep him at between 25%-50% snaps played until after the bye week.

I have a personal limit of five UDFA's (or 7th rounders) that might make the squad. My list now consists of Sudfeld, Thompkins, Benard, Buchanan and Beaharnais.

Benard was a veteran free agent from the Browns, so now you have a free spot; trust MG he's going to surprise some people. If he went to a lot of other teams I would say otherwise but Brandon Ford has a great skill set for this team.

I will add an off the subject note that I think you're spot on with your consideration for Benard.

:) my bad. Ford is certainly the best of the rest. So, Ford is now on my 5 man list of possible UDFA's or 7th rounders to make the 53 (absent that, hopefully the Practice Squad).

I always wish for upgrades. I just don't expect them from UDFA's. Consider the inevitability of Moe (WR) or Stinky (C).

As you have stated, you project youth to the roster in the hope that they make it.

I take a different approach. I don't expect past contributors like Hooman to be replaced unless someone performs very well in camp and is very clearly better than the veteran. So, I favor veterans, especially those who have started, over those who have not.

So, I hope that Hooman continues to improve as a utility TE who is able to start at TE and plays FB and h-back. I hope that Fells comes back from his injury to his 2011 form. In either of these cases, the players would be much more valuable than Sudfeld or Ford.

You hope for us to play the 3 TE set with Ballard, Sudfeld and Ford for Game One. My expectation is to see Ballard, Hooman and Fells.

That being said, as of today, Sudfeld has shown a lot, almost enough to make the roster absent a surge in performance from Fells.

That all depends how his surgically repaired knee holds up.

I think MG hopes like most of us Ballard is a lock; otherwise :violin:

I can jive with that my man :rocker:

I see Gronk bustin his tail at best as he can to get back. Who knows if he will start at PUP for 6 games or be ready before then but a healthy Gronk makes a HUGE difference in schemes and Ballard would be a decent combo. Maybe even bringin Dallas Clarke in for look is he still a FA?

How bad are our receivers?

Posters want to consider a wide receiver with four concussions in the past year and a TE that should retire.

Clark had 47 receptions last year. We have someone else with that production?
