Broncos LT Ryan Clady gets 5 years, >$50M; domino effect on Solder's price tag?

re: Broncos LT Ryan Clady gets 5 years, >$50M; domino effect on Solder's price tag?

Broncos reward Ryan Clady with 5-year, $57.5 million contract

Is this just the Donkeys overpaying, or should we fans have legitimate cause for concern in terms of keeping Mt. Solder?

Not sure I'd call it overpaying. Clady really is as good as his ranking suggests. The only PROBLEM with the signing for the amount he did is that lately he has had some injury problems.

He is a good OT, good strength and does not get over powered by power rushers . this is a knock on solder. He is a good run blocker.

Also , what is this over paying crap lol....you want to pay 1$ for nate solder?.

NFL 2013:

First thing I thought when I saw "gets 5 years $50..." was .. "wow, quite a sentence and fine. What was his crime again?"

$10+M per year for a top-tier LT isn't really news - the good ones are expensive.

LOL, with all the arrests going on these days, when I read Broncos LT Ryan Clady gets five years, the first place my mind went was that he got five years IN PRISON. I'm not even kidding. Totally spaced that one...it's been a long day.

LOL, me too.

Solder isn't to Clady's level yet, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him get at least $10M a year either next offseason or the one after that. He's a guy they're going to want around for the rest of Brady's career and the start of the next guy's.

There will be a lot of money invested in that line with solder, seabass and mankins if that holds true.
not saying its not the smart thing to do. Just an observation.

This doesn't apply to 2013, but if we had to make a choice to sign Solder longterm for 10 million a year, or sign a #1 CB longterm + Mccourty, I'd choose the latter.

We already have a guard making 9 million a year and a RT making 6.75 million a year....

Well if it comes down to it in two years, I'd gladly cut 33 year old Mankins, save $7M in each of 2015 and 2016, and give all of that money (and then some) to 27 year old Solder.

An extension that lowers Mankins' cap hit could be an option as well. Hopefully five years is enough for the Patriots to get back on his good side after 2010.

2014 is the first year the Patriots could cut Mankins and save money.

Agreed. Mankins gets cut before they let Solder walk, no question.
