Dennard arrested for DUI

I completely agree with the differences you mention. I was commenting on how the media would gloss over any such differences and insist a precedent which absent intelligent distinct differences (q.v. comments on the Edelperson case) could result in a future disaster were a Patriot star be arrested for DUI or some such.

"While deliberately ignoring or dismissing Dennard's precursor behavior, the media would have a field day unless they too were cut."

Ahhhh....

My apologies, then. Though it we really wanted to lay out all the fact misadventures and stretched comparisons that the media would make, you could get a lot more outlandish than that! :)

And Dennard wasn't a Patriot when he assaulted a police officer. Kevin Faulk had a similiar arrest record in college (resisting arrest), but the Pats didn't cut him when he was arrested for possession.

So? I'm all for the league having no authority to punish Dennard for that, but there is no reason why NE shouldn't consider it.

Faulk's second arrest is far less serious and, more importantly, didn't happen just three months after sentencing!

The two aren't nearly as comparable as you are making them out to be.

I'm hoping due process is sensible.......his probation may be a problem......and then a suspension by goodell would be likely......I'd give him a shot at paying the price for his mistake and moving on ...... if there is value for the pats to do so.....

DUI is bad....but I still want to know the details before I would want him dumped

It would be dumb to cut him. Problem is, the authorities, and Jetdell may take care of that for the team as far as suspension, or incarceration.

The stupid is strong with these guys. You'd think he would be on his guard.

I am pretty sure the league's policy is that they do not punish players for actions they did prior to being drafted. I don't think it is an official rule, but it is a rule in practice. Dennard faced no league discipline prior to today for anything he has done including assaulting a police officer. Just look at Kendrick Ellis of the Jets, he went to jail this offseason for beating someone to a bloody pulp his last year in school and received no discipline from the NFL>

If Dennard assaulted a police officer a week later, he would have faced league discipline.

What's happening? We're starting to look like the New England Bengals.

Again, the 3 months after sentencing really doesn't mean much. He had no association with the Patriots when he was arrested for assaulting the police officer AND the Pats drafted him knowing full well that he was arrested.

I still don't think a player should be penalized for things he did before he was drafted when looking at new offenses.

I don't have any problem with the Pats disciplining Dennard. I just think cutting him is reactionary and stupid though.

I see the fat steelers fan on 98.5 is waving the flag for cutting Dennard, he's already talking about moving McCourty back to CB.

I'm sure he'd have no problem if the steelers claimed him.

well, at least he didn't resist arrest......so he's learning.....

Most of the media will take the extreme reactionary position on this issue. That is what they do.

but he was a patriot when he was convicted.

I posted almost exactly this same thing at almost the same time. Great minds (if snarky) think alike. ;)

That doesn't really narrow it down for me? Does it have a name? Or maybe it's...
