I would not have responded to this if "July 6-7" was not in the title. There is a long history in NO of 67 being a magical number. Extremely good or bad, but no in between. But its a very nice gesture for the team to do this.

This is classy as hell.

Maybe, but it also probably has a lot to do with damage control. A smart business move.

Who REALLY wants to see another Aaron Hernandez jersey again? "Let's try and pretend that he was never a Patriot." Also placates the fans and such.

Of course, they didn't have to do this, and there certainly can't be many people that would ever really WANT to wear Hernandez's jersey again. His mom still thinks he'll be vindicated, but then again so did Ted Bundy's. Dunno, but this move sounds like the Patriots think he's a murderer...think about it. This move SCREAMS that opinion, really.

Never heard of anything like this happening before.

I really dont share your pessimism. Its a very nice thing to do, and the team will lose money for doing it. So not a good buisness move. Very nice and classy. No other teams fans will ever notice 81 or AH's name, if they did nothing, hes only popular in pats circles at this point.

This is great and welcome news!!

How do I look in Hernandez Duds, by the way?? :D

I don't wear player jerseys or anything else that points out a players. I wear a Pats hat and Pats jackets. I'm pretty sickened by all this crap, in fact I've been getting pretty disillusioned since 2007. I do not trust what I see anymore. It's like it's a constant battle to keep the invisible arms and and hands out of my pockets as I use my recreative time to follow my favorite team in my favorite sport.

The swapback is a nice gesture...it's also an obvious PR move. What franchise wants a homicidal gangster's jersey displayed on world wide telecommunications tying their brand to a psychopath? It's shrewd business and as such, not surprising coming from the Kraft Group.

this is over and done. Time to move on,and love you

Pretty awesome move I think. Highly doubt you'd see any other team do this.

Mine's now hanging at a prominent intersection in Bristol, CT with a little message attached to it.

Everybody loves Unca Joe Kerr, Grid...you got a problem with that?

Smart move, the last thing they want is G's and wannabe G's wearing Hernandez Patriot jerseys as a tribute to him, and letting fans trade theirs in and burning them allows them to continue to remove all traces of Hernandez as a Patriot. When he is convicted i expect them to delete his name from their history.

Ladies and gentlemen, if you don't trade them in please burn them and help erase his memory from Patriots history. Don't let them go to Goodwill etc.....

It's not about pessimism or losing reasonably very small money in the short term. It's good for business in the long run, without being short sighted IMO.

It's about seeing the big long-term picture and acting accordingly. It's about image. It's about business, particularly the future business. It's about the brand. Like I said, it's about damage control.

Of course, it's also about people feeling grateful and loving the organization that much more for the gesture. It's about the organization trying to remove itself from this embarrassment as best they can.

It's not so much a 100% favor as it may seem...that's what I'm saying. They are just running their business. THEY ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING, but I think some people are overlooking some of the most major reasons why. Don't be totally naive.

That's not pessimism; that's business. The perception of integrity means more than paying for some Hernandez jerseys. We're talking about a billion dollar organization.

After seeing a picture of "individuals" at the court house wearing Hernandez's jersey, it dawned on me. It will be dress-up attire for gangs. Also, it will be like wearing a scarlet letter, tho, police can currently see gang colors.

All the moves by the Patriots have been ahead of the curve, cut Hernandez and offer a jersey exchange. Seriously, what parent wants to have their child wearing this shirt? Who would want to wear his shirt except a low-life.

Patriots offer fans chance to exchange Hernandez jerseys

Didn't see this posted anywhere here, but this is awesome. Classy move! For whoever was "Pondering the Patriot Way", well, this is the Patriot way.

Patriots offer fans chance to exchange Hernandez jerseys - Extra Points - Boston.com

The Patriots have announced a free exchange of any Aaron Hernandez jersey on July 6-7.

Any Hernandez jersey that was purchased at the Patriots ProShop or through PatriotsProShop.com can be exchanged for a different player's jersey of comparable value at no additional charge.

"We know that children love wearing their Patriots jerseys but may not understand why parents don't want them wearing their Hernandez jerseys anymore," team spokesman Stacey James said in a statement. "We hope this opportunity to exchange those jerseys at the Patriots ProShop will be well received by parents."

This opportunity for a free exchange is limited to the weekend of July 6-7 and is available only at the Patriots ProShop at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough. The hours of operation are 10 a.m.-9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-7 p.m. on Sunday.

I'd only get players jerseys with my name on it. I just hope none of the Wilsons turn homicidal.

We'll see how far they're willing to go. . . . Will they literally remove him from their records? [He was already tied for 18th all time in Patriots receiving TDs, and 23d in receptions.]

I presume the NFL will, if they see that happening after he is convicted, ban the sale of custom Hernandez jerseys.

There is precedent: you (still) can't buy a "#16 Owen" Lions jersey. [OTOH, you *can* buy a Panthers Carruth jersey.]

I don't think he should be removed from team stats/records. First of all, what he did on the field has nothing to do with what he did off it. Second, removing his on-field stats would cause gaps relating to the team and other players -- Brady especially.

Sorry, I should have been clearer: not to wipe his stats out in the literal sense, but merely to omit his name from lists of top receivers, etc.
