Patriots Sign Tim Tebow

Ryan Mallett isn't nearly the roster or backup lock everyone seems to think. I think Tebow's subpar as a thrower (putting it nicely, though a great runner) but Mallett's a complete unknown despite the oft-aired but impossible to back up belief that he's 'developed nicely' and is viewed as a potential star in the NFL by multiple teams. At the very least he's a camp arm who can help prep the defense against running QBs, at best he's a QB2 or QB3 with some possible gimmick value or versatility as an athlete. There's no downside here other than the manufactured idea that he's a media circus or a locker room cancer.

Good point here. Teams are increasingly moving to mobile qbs. Who better to run the scout team when they will be facing such a team that week?

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

I think you may have this backwards. If Tebow weren't so openly religious, he'd be just another great college QB without much of an NFL career. It's his personality, charisma and brazenly loud piousness that have helped make him as popular as he is. It's certainly not his ability to throw a football.

I was talking about around here....

Well really, it's both, right? I mean, he's a dramatically polarizing figure. Some people really love him precisely because he's outwardly evangelical. And others really hate him for exactly the same reason. He gets a ton of praise because of it, but he also takes a lot of crap because of it.

It works both ways with him.

Why the Tebow hate. Guys he is in our team now. IMHO I'm going to give him a chance to succeed. I don't get why people bash the guy. If you don't like him, that's all good but don't go on hate laced fest here. We all get that Tebow can't throw and brings a media circus with him, but that is not the reason bill brought him here. Tebow was brought in to play multiple postion and that media fan circus wouldn't happen here. If it didn't happen with Ocho, it sure as hell wouldn't happen here.

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

Tim Tebow is the most talked about backup-QB in history. I don't think he's going to do anything and I don't understand why we're wasting a roster spot on him, that is, if he makes the team. I don't see how he is an asset to this team, or how he can contribute effectively.

I agree, I don't think he will do anything. I think he is cut in a few weeks.

Tebow's first chat with the press as a member of the Patriots:

43 seconds

Yeah, it's Ringling Brothers up in Gillette.

The only thing i am rooting for is his release.

I actually like this move. Not overly thrilled but I don't see why not either. He will not be a distraction. i'm not counting on him contributing a whole lot but who knows he could perhaps help us out on 3rd and shorts and red zone, a couple areas we've struggled in.

All this Tebow discussion is crazy ... here's how I see it:

1: Upgrade over Kafka.

2: Greater flexibility for team if they get a great offer to trade Mallet.

3: That added pick from trading Mallet could conceivably be Brady's future replacement.

4: Could offer unit flexibility if he can be teams 4th or 5th RB / ST player.
Team could then add a player to a unit and have more depth in that unit.

5: Team could sometimes use the old fashioned 3 back sets with a 2 throwing options included - Brady or Tebow.
That's a long shot but it could be new added twist for this offense.

I would rather see them bring back Tommy Hodson than use Tebow at QB. Seriously, if he ever plays QB in a real game then their season is officially over.

From your lips to God's ears............even I would Tebow that move.

Not really. They could go a mediocre 8-8 against a soft schedule, make the playoffs, *maybe* win a playoff game, get blown out in the next one, and then lose a shot at a great draft pick in the first round.

How stupid are the anti-Tebow people willing to make themselves look?

Salk, on WEEI:

"I'd rather have JaMarcus Russell"

I have a question - If Tim Tebow was signed because, according to BB, it was in the "best interest" of the Patriots then how does Tebow help Tom Brady since the Patriots "best interest" is Tom Brady?

More reason for me to hate Salk ... the pompous jerk.

Re: Enough about Tim Tebow, what do YOU think about Tim Tebow?

The most telling phrase in the story about his signing is "No guaranteed money."

6 of one and a half dozen of the other, neither can play QB in the NFL. I'm sure Tebow is a good person but he sucks as an NFL QB, and that's all that matters. The only thing his signing has achieved is to cement my opposition to Josh McDaniels ever taking over this team.
