Patriots Sign Tim Tebow

For the record I am not the least bit interested in the Tebow religious aspect, Agnostic that I am.

Having said that, this guy has been through the media mill and spat out, some of it self inflicted but only a tiny percentage in my opinion.

I'd be hugely interested to see what they intend to do with him, a little bit actual wild cat..maybe HB option passes - where there is a real threat to throw?

Who knows?

I do know that plenty of brain dead Jets fans will assume that Tebow=Circus and that the Jets management were powerless in the eye of such a media storm.

My black helicopter theory is that either (1) Josh McD overwhelmed BB's faculties in a surprise Vulcan mind meld or (2) we're seeing Josh begin taking over as HC in this, Bill's last year.

Gawd this is off season Fun!

That's simply not true. Your opinion, mirrored by many, runs counter to the facts. Tebow was a tremendous success as a starting QB. That's the irony for the Tebow haters.

In terms of wins, but that was largely a function of a good defense. When challenged by a much better team in the Patriots, the Tebow Broncos completely crumbled. If we ignore team stats, he was pretty miserable except as a runner, where he has exceptional vision and elusiveness to make up for only average foot speed. If he acquiesced to playing there, he'd probably be a great running back. If he can run routes and catch, he'd be a great H-back/tight end type too; he certainly possesses much higher upside than Hoomanawanui or Fells. But as a thrower he's a failure (below 50% career completion percentage), his arm just isn't NFL caliber.

If Belichick didn't see any way Tebow could help, then he wouldn't have signed him.

Right now, my best guess is that they want to see if they can turn Tebow into a decent passer over the next year to use as Brady's primary backup after they trade Mallett. That would be helping.

He doesn't need to be Brady's primary backup in order to help. He just needs to be a little better than their third stringer, Kafka (well, former third stringer, now that he's been cut). If he is, great, they've improved a spot on the roster (and you should always be looking to improve in every possible area, even amongst the backups). If he isn't, they almost certainly can get Kafka back.

Tebow will learn how to play more than one position if he wants to stick around here and be on the 53-man roster. Perhaps, he can learn how to be the teams' long snapper so that Danny Aiken is not occupying one of those roster spots.

I'm happy Tim has acquired a NFL contract, I wonder when his news conference will be?

We need to be tracking his plane. When will he arrive? What will he be wearing?

People are slacking...
:D

Absolutely HATE this move.

Guy is a locker room cancer and a huge annoyance in terms of media attention. He can't play QB to save his life and he will never get a chance to play QB here. You can't sit here and tell me that you're going to pull Tom Brady off the field for some guy who couldn't even make it in the CFL as a QB. He won't make a positive impact for the Pats this year.

Dumb move.

=======================================

Tebow is not a cancer, no way, he is one of the good guys and every one likes him.
A distraction yes, cancer no.

When he went up against even the mid-level defenses of the NFL in 2011, he was shut down. He got plastered by the Pats twice, Buffalo, and only put up 3 points against Kansas City. He beat a Pittsburgh team without Ryan Clark and with Keisel and Hampton going down in the first half with serious injuries. He's too big of an egotistical stiff to play anything else besides QB. That will be his downfall.

Dude cannot play QB in the NFL.

He beat the Steelers in the playoffs.

You've got nothing. Your baseless hostility is a waste of your energies.

There is no chance that they "pull Tom Brady off the field" for Tim Tebow. None. He'll be the 3rd string QB. I guess Tebow saw the writing on the wall and figured, well, I'd rather be a 3rd string QB in the NFL than playing in Canada or out of football entirely.

In a situation like the Jets, there was always the sense that he could have done as good a job as Sanchez. No way ANYONE has that view of Tebow vs. Brady. It's not even remotely a concern.

Someone with the level of media attention he brings isn't brought in to be a 3rd string QB. He wouldn't sign here if Bill told him he would ride the bench for the whole season behind Mallett.

Arm strength isn't the issue. It's accuracy which is the problem. And I'd rather have a QB with a weak arm that's accurate than a strong one that's inaccurate. So Tebow has a lot of work to do. But again, he'll be able to do that comfortably in the Pats' organization sitting behind Brady, being mentored by Belichick, McDaniels, and Brady. It's a good spot for Tebow.

Did you not read what was written? Who cares if he won a game against a very depleted Steelers' defense?

We are discussing his play. Not his team's play. And his play is very, very bad.

You can't possibly know this. Maybe that is exactly what happened. Maybe his agent told him that there were precisely ZERO teams interested in signing him. And Tebow took a look in the mirror and said, well, I'd rather have this situation than be out of the league. If I work hard and improve, maybe I can move up to the #2 spot.

Why isn't that a possibility?

I read what was written. It was a pathetic attempt to minimize the success he had.

Why people waste their energy hating the guy is for their therapists to look into, not me. I just find that sort of knee jerk stupidity extremely amusing.

Love it!!!
Kid's a terrific athlete and a winner, won't be even a hint of a distraction with BB running the show and the haters are already having seizures.
I'm already having fun with this signing. :D

He completed 10 passes against the Steelers in that playoff game, for a 48% completion percentage. The next week he completed 9 against the Patriots for a 34% completion percentage. He's had 4 career games where he's completed over half his passes, and two of those were exactly half. And he was a low volume passer, to boot. Let's not pretend like his arm did much of anything.

And I like Tebow!

Basically use him as a tackling dummy so the new lbs can get used to hitting a live target. I like it.

I'm not a Tebow lover....but I don't hate him either.

1) Tebow being in New England is pretty much the best possible spot for Tebow. First off, he isn't going to split the fanbase. No one will, like, constantly whine about wanting Tebow to start. Or start to boo the QB like they did with Sanchez or Orton just because they want Tebow. Even the most devout Tebow fan knows he isn't beating out Tom Brady. Not happening. Next.

2) Belichick has had a long coach's relationship with Urban Meyer. If Bill is on the same page as Urban, I'd say he'll get along with Tebow just fine. Bill frequently would go to Florida and check out their tapes. He's seen a ton from Florida. Him an Urban have swapped notes. Bill has drafted quite a few Florida draft picks (Hernandez and Spikes, for instance). There should be more familiarity than usual.

3) No coach in the NFL has done more to utilize the Tight End position than Bill Belichick. Tebow? He's getting converted TE/H-back. Bill loves to experiment. Last year, he tried Aaron Herhandez at H-Back. It was a meh fit for one game. Tebow? He'll be a better fit. He can run with the ball out the backfield, he might even be able to catch short passes and pick up the YAC. If he can block, it'll be good. It's worth a look.

4) Tebow costs nothing. Belichick has nothing to lose. If it doesn't work? See-ya. If Tebow becomes a distraction (he won't)? See-ya, Tebow. No one will question Belichick on this front. I wouldn't be surprised if he gets cut before the 53 man roster is final.

---

On a negative level? My only problem is that this move might be as a result of Josh McDaniels. Well, that's only if they are trying to groom him at QB. I really don't think that's the plan, but if it does? That's on McDaniels.

Why isn't that a possibility?

Because he isn't that type of guy. As much as I resent the guy, I know he's a competitor. It's well known that he wants to win football games and that he wants to be on the field. He's almost like Brady in a sense, except without the talent.

He honestly had a great shot of being the starter in NY if he had just waited for the Sanchize to implode for a whole season. He would be starting for the Jests this season had he not complained about playing time last season.

You underestimate the power of the Patriots' locker room. If they don't want Tebow to attract any media, then he won't attract any media.

You underestimate the power of the Tim Ego. His 1st reason for being on this earth is to tell everyone about ************. Get ready to be forcefed christianity.

Sure they might keep Tebow away from the camera and not have him do pressers every day but that wont stop the press from asking about him time after time after time after time. The Tebow circus is bigger than any one NFL team - EVERY presser will have Tebow questions interlaced in them.

And so the Pats Watch begins

I'm baffled as well.

1)The Pats are launching some kind of new spy sat.and are looking for a diversion.
or
2)They have an lots of of jerseys they want to sell

The only positive is,if he scores against the jets their
fans will have a fit.
