Offseason Chad Johnson Update

I know this show shouldn't even be worth my time, but I was pretty entertained to see Stephen A Smiths on-air reaction to this happening.

I think Chads going down the Titus Young route. He's seen his last down in the NFL. So long, you waste of a 2011 roster spot. Thanks for being such a failure.

Wow. Well, at least he didn't slap the judge on the butt.

The best moves he has done in a few years was chasing down a speeding Justin Beiber.

That was Keyshawn Johnson, not Chad Johnson.

Frankly, that's an abuse of judicial power.

No it isn't. The guy assaulted his wife, was put on probation, skipped out on a probation meeting, and then horsed around in court. Judges have discretion to impose sentences based on how effective they think they'll be in modifying the defendant's behavior. If she had any doubt about how seriously he was taking the situation, she was entitled to send him to jail.

This wasn't the first time he acted this way in McHugh's courtroom. She had every right to sentence him to jail. Maybe 30 days in jail will help him figure out that life isn't a big joke.

I wonder if he's allowed to tweet from jail.

He will probably be receiving more balls in 30 days in jail than he did in a whole season playing for the Patriots

My take on him is that he was always sort of screwy in a fun-loving way until recently. To my recollection his antics were never "break the law" types of things. But since he's realized his career is over, I think the wheels are falling off the wagon.

I was sort of on the judges side, because i assumed all this outrage was over him patting his female lawyer on the butt.

His lawyer was a man. I no longer understand the issue. Its a camaraderie thing that happens all the time in sports when someone does a good job, or puts in good effort, as she asked Chad if he felt his lawyer was doing a good job.

I wouldn't have had a problem with him having gotten 30 days in jail for the original issues. But the judge's rationale bothers me. The guy was happy he wasn't going to jail, showed it and now he's going to jail.

Maybe we'd all respect the courts more if they weren't full of activist judges and ******ed logic that sees a rapist go to jail for 1 year and the guy who hacked a website to bring light to the case of the rapist facing 10 years.

Actually, that's not ******ed logic. That's corporate-financed logic.

Judge hates gay players?

Leaping into the air and bumping into each other is also a sign of camaraderie on the football field, not in court. When you're the defendant in a criminal case, that's the time to be solemn. Did the judge overreact a bit? Maybe, but she was probably concerned that she wasn't getting through to him. Him dressing how he did also didn't help, IMO.

Abso-freaking-lutely.

I just saw a clip of what happened on ESPN. The outrage is over THAT? Are you freaking kidding me? Especially given his reaction, it was clear that it wasn't an act of disrespect, he seemed genuinely baffled and shocked at how she reacted. The guy has spent the past 15 years where that act is completely normal. Getting jail time for that is a complete joke.

Even beyond that, she had already accepted the plea bargain. This choice had absolutely nothing to do with what she deemed right or wrong. It was completely about her personal ego.

What a joke.

Hadn't really followed this at all until I just saw a segment on The Today Show.

First off, I certainly can't relate to the instinct to tap the lawyer's butt in that setting.

BUT ... I was surprised to hear that the judge asked Johnson "are you happy with your lawyer?" ... and his actions were a response to that. Seems to me the judge pushed things down that informal road — why would she ask that? — and takes some responsibility.
