2014 Draft Prospect Thread

Yeah, but looking at his size and how the 2011 - 2013 drafts went, he'll likely go Top-15 if he plays well this year. Too much to ask for him to fall all the way down to 32 (manxman -- I love the optimism! :)).

The one good thing about pre-season is that one is allowed the confidence. There's a lot of potentially very good prospects for next year and a non-pass rushing DT is unlikely to get in the top of the first round. But things will change so who knows.

Brandon Coleman would be an awesome pick but hopefully Dobson plays enough that we dont need to draft another wr so early. DT is where my money is for next year..or CB if talib walks.

One interesting dynamic for next year is the opportunity for teams to get a first round offensive skill player considering the dearth of first rounders this year:

Marquise Lee - WR
Sammy Watkins - WR
Brandon Coleman - WR
Austin Sefarian-Jenkins - TE
DeAnthony Thomas - RB
Colt Lyerla - TE
Ka'Deem Carey - RB
Dri Archer - RB
Odell Beckham - WR
Lache Seastrunk - RB
Jordan Matthews - WR
Cody Hoffman - WR
Mike Evans - WR
CJ Fiedorowicz - TE
Eric Ebron -TE
Xavier Grimble - TE

All could potentially go in round one or two if the underclassmen declare. Has the potential to be an exciting offensive draft which could be good for us because I suspect it will be a defensive one for us.

I think beckham is not eligible is he?
But you are right, that will be a very very good draft. This year was deep but without a lotof top end talent, next year will be deep with a lot more elite potencial. I actually cant wait for the college season to start.

I think OL could be an early target. Two years in a row that we haven't drafted an OL. I have a binkie already for that spot. Future RG for the Pats and a mad-scientist. That's a combination that makes OTG weak in the knees:) Thinking 3rd round.

The contrast between the 1st round talent this year and next is shocking.

Like!
And we took penn state center this year. Will the same theory that bb wants better comunication on the backield(hence all the rutgers) apply to the o-line?:D

Yes, but don't forget that people were getting excited about David Amerson last year. I saw one mock from this time last year that only ended up getting five prospects right that ended up in the first round.

But it is certainly looks exciting potentially. It has everything, top quality QB's, LTs by the bucket load, some really good pass rushers both edge and inside, some really nice DBs and offensive skill players abound.

Stankiewitch was a UDFA. I think Urschel is much more powerful and has a chance to be a mid-round pick. The PSU guys to keep an eye on are a year or two away. Best pro prospects are probably Adrian Amos - Jr. CB - Prob a safety in the NFL, Allen Robinson - WR another junior who had a great season and could come out early. Not really fast. But, good size. And, Donovan Smith LT Red-shirt soph might be the best pro prospect on the team. Needs two more years.

Motherload of te's coming up. Two soph's. A big SOB like Gronk. Jesse James 6'7"240lb and supposedly ran 4.7 at pro day. Kyle Carter is more of an Ahern type who can play in space and had a tremendous freshman season. They also recruited the top te prospect last year Adam Breneman.

The kid that everybody is anxious to see in O'Briens's offense is incoming Frosh QB Christian Hackenberg. He was the top qb at the Elite 11 Camp. 6'5" 225LB. The Big 10 has not had a qb picked in the 1st round since 1995. Kerry Collins. I'm predicting this kid will end that streak. That trivia question will win you a beer at most pubs in the country. Even here in Pa.

So you think Penn might be the next pipeline over Ohio State? Wouldn't surprise me actually - a little more under the radar.

And the hate begins......

You think Russell Wilson's success would shut these guys up. Manziel is 2 inches taller, faster, first freshman heisman winner, and will tear up the SEC again.

I know Bridgewater is a special QB, but I'll be shocked if they aren't neck and neck for #1 by next April. Hell, Louisville vs. Texas A&M could be the national championship.

Not sure. It seems O'Brien is putting a lot of emphasis on recruiting the skill positions; wr, rb and te. With the rules of current football and his area of expertise. Seems like the way to go. Doubt if they can compete with Ohio St and Michigan under those restrictions. Would look at those schools for you 4 and 5 star stud defensive players. Maybe, PSU will be a good spot for offensive players in a pro system. Can always move a rb or wr to db. PSU only has 65 scholarships because of the NCAA sanctions. Aren't doing well recruiting defensive players. But, it appears the skill players really want to play for O'Brien. Hearing that British kid that moved to NJ is getting a lot of interest nationally. I'll let you know when/where he commits. He's going to be able to enroll in whatever school he chooses in January to give him an early start on 2014. He'll have 3 years to play 2.

I'm not convinced that Johnny Football has the arm/accuracy to be a top QB in the draft - it'll be interesting to see how he develops this year. If I was drafting a mobile QB right now, I'd take Tajh Boyd first, then Manziel and then Mariota. For a generic team, I certainly think teams will take Manziel over Aaron Murray and AJ McCarron though.

Having said that, I think Mariota/Manziel will cause teams to think creatively - they're both dynamic winners and with the right system, could still help an NFL team.

Right now I'd rank them:

1. Teddy Bridgewater (by a mile)
2. David Fales
3. Tajh Boyd
4. Johnny Manziel
5. Marcus Mariota

I then have AJ McCarron, Aaron Murray, Brett Hundley and maybe David Carr behind them. I also wouldn't mind betting that all nine go before Matt Barkley did at the start of the 4th round (if they all declare)

I imagine the Pats will be looking to draft a QB around the 4th round next year since Mallett will be in the last year of his deal and Brady will within a approx four years of retiring.

Do they go for a classic pocket passer or a dynamic Kapernick/Wilson/Newton type?

Pocket passer. That's the type BB continues to workout. If I was doing a 2014 mock right now, I'd lean towards McCarron in the 3rd.

Geez, even as a casual college football fan I've heard of all those guys except Hundley and Carr. Next years class is stacked, and the perfect year to replace Mallett for the developmental QB role with a late 3rd rounder.

It's amazing how much better this draft class looks than the one that was drafted this weekend.

Everybody will be watching UW to see ASJ, but don't sleep on WR Kasen Williams.

How many mocks will this guy be in between now and next April?

This is what an NFL Scout had to say about Darqueze:

"Number 31, that guy is a helluva player,'' the NFL scout said, referring to Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard. "We gave him a first-round draft grade this year.''
