Jeff Demps and a 7th round pick traded to Bucs for RB LeGarrette Blount

Re: Pats Trade Demps and 7th Rounder To TB For LaGarrette Blount

I really liked Blount two seasons ago. Hopefully he will punch in a couple of short yardage plays and make som plays this season. It's just a 7th round and a player who BB probably didn't want on the team(track) so I really like this.

So long Jeff Demps....so much for all of the "he's basically an extra draft pick this year" crap everyone around here was spewing.

Re: Pats Trade Demps and 7th Rounder To TB For LaGarrette Blount

If he shows any willingness and competence to be a fullback in this offense, he has a very good chance of making this team.

The good news is, the Patriots are probably getting back value on a guy they didn't think would factor into their offseason program much going forward.

The bad news is, Demps, despite all his flip-flopping is probably among the top 3 fastest guys in the entire NFL and the team likely trading for him will make use of that if they have some type of an agreement with him about his motivations.

Oh well.

The problem is that running track, at Demps' size, has a fundamental incompatibility with surviving on the football field. That's part of the reason the Patriots put him on IR last year to begin with.

Just don't get it

Why waste a draft pick on a RB who's never going to beat out Bolden

Pick up OL depth or OL camp fodder

This is a great move. How can anyone deny that? Not often do 7th round draft picks produce, and I wasn't expecting Demps to do us anything good. A bruiser is what we need in between Ridley/Vareen/Washington.

Heh. I see what you did there.

So we traded a UDFA plus a 7th round pick to get a ... UDFA?

So is Bolden's leg broken or does BB know something I don't? I thought the point was to get MORE picks not less. LOL.

To be fair, once a UDFA shows something on the field, his value is no longer UDFA. Blount has shown some serious ability on the field. This is close to a steal if Blount's ability on the field is all that mattered. It's his off the field that is borderline ridiculous. A must read is Tampa Bay having to hire a service to wake him and drive him to practice. No kidding, that is reportedly true.
If the guy has an epiphany and turns around his appalling lack of professional approach to his job, this is a fine pick up. If he hasn't? I'd expect him to be looking for another job by the end of August.....and the Patriots wasted a 7th.

Well the RB position is pretty deep now, Blount can help share the load with Ridley keeping both guys fresh for the playoffs.

5 solid Rb's, check.

Now we need some OL's for camp Dante.

Great point on Bolden, leads one to believe that the Pats aren't sold on him at all. I am a bit perplexed by the Pats getting Blount here. Blount burst on the scene 3 years ago as a rookie but has steadily declined to the point where he was non-existent in 13 games played last year on a sub-par offense. Blount just seems like training camp competition more than anything.

Unless Bolden is shown out the door?

Demps will always be a returner. With Washington, and Demps 50% desire for football, no need for him.

I am surprised that we had to give up a 7th. I would believe that Bucs would release Blount, if no takers (likely none)...

So is that a medical condition or serious lack of work ethic? If it's the latter, you'd think the Pas would have done their homework and never agreed to a deal in the first place. Who initiated the trade talks?

Re: Bucs trade RB Blount to Patriots

Patriots gave up the 2nd of the 7th rounders...

Steep price?

To quote Greg Bedard's thoughts on the trade from just a few moments ago:

"Sure, why not. Seventh rounders are freebies."

I love the trade. We need a physical RB.

PS Is Blount good? I guess we had a room for an extra RB since Woodhead left. Plus, sounds like BB didn't like any of the RBs left in the 7th of this year's draft.

4.6 ypc on 426 carries. 1900 yards, people are selling him short. He's better than a 7th round RB at this point.

Don't get the negativity here about this trade. I like this a lot. Big strong back who has some wiggle and can catch passes out of the backfield. At least Blount will play for the Pats, Demos probably won't even play that much for the Bucs.

Blount would have been one of the top RBs chosen this year if he wasn't such a punk. Not only did he once throw a punch at an opposing player before a game, he also threw a punch at one of his coaches on the sidelines.

Anger management required.

Do the Patriots need a potential headache? They have enough on their plate..
