The Official Rounds 4-7 2013 NFL Draft Thread

While I have issues with Collins, my problem is the horrible decision to eschew WR and safety at that point and to draft at a redundant position. If there's one position on this team besides TE and QB that didn't need a top draft pick, it's LB.

As I've pointed out elsewhere, they could have made one small trade up in round 3 and gotten, for example:

Hopkins
Swearinger
Wheaton
Either Rutgers pick

That would have been a much smarter use of the trade down ammo.

I'm one of the few on here who have been saying for months that an OLB is a huge need so the Jamie Collins pick made me very happy. How is LB not a need? Especially one that can cover and rush the passer. Right now in Hightower, Mayo, and Spikes we have three guys that all play 1-2 positions each, but none of them play the duties of a true OLB exceptionally well.

I was huge on Wheaton and liked Swearinger mildly. I got over missing out on Wheaton once we drafted Boyce. Swearinger vs Harmon, we'll have to wait and see.

Jags have added a nice couple of safeties in Josh Evans and Jonathan Cyprien.

Bray seems like Mallett project v2, pass. Let's try for dual threat Matt Scott.

Will Patriots get a round-6th pick?

Who says within the next hour when it comes in 10 minutes. It should have been more like within 30 minutes or something. What if someone said within the next 6 hours. Nobody is really going to expect it to come in the 1st hour.

No DVR.

That'll be the last time you crap on BB. ;)

Yeah I like those picks. Still scratching me head about Ace Sanders and Denard Robinson back to back. I imagine Sanders will be purely a returner but I don't know where Robinson fits in their WR rotation unless he's a really good route runner.

Hopkins went to Houston at 28?

Wouldn't of minded hopping in front of Pittsburgh for Wheaton. Really liked Wheaton a lot. Boyce is a good pick though in the 4th.

Swearinger is someone I liked better than Harmon. Though i would rather have Logan Ryan more than Swearinger.

People keep asking this. I assume those people never watch the Patriots practice or play, because LB is the only defensive position where the Patriots are actually set.

I you don't want to be called neurotically miserable, then quit acting like one and stop posting ridiculously neurotically miserable nonsense. There's a world of difference between taking a "who?" pick in round 5 and taking one in the top 3 rounds, like Sebastian Vollmer and you should know this, given the amount of time YOU spend on the site.

Ah Shmessy probably the "mod" removing me from every active discussion on this board because he can't stand to hear a dissenting opinion. I ask you what kind of mod insults posters and abuses their power. At least PM a justification before removing me from 3 threads today.

Joke.

It's unfortunate you only read my first sentence. I later go on to say we have three good LBs that all play the same exact position. Please confirm that you have read to this point.

Yeah, those guys really shut down opposing TE's last year...........

I read your entire post the first time. The team's "coverage" LB was hurt early last year. He's back. Even if he's not capable of getting the job done, taking one in round 2 was completely unecessary.

We had a need for a pass rusher and a need for a coverage LB. We killed two birds with one stone. Not sure why we should be unhappy with that.

for or against going for another WR?

Yeah I agree, our current linebackers were all big ones, primarily run stuffers that weren't the best in coverage except for maybe mayo. The speed Collins brings will make him an interesting person to watch.

Although I would have been content with just Dobson, I like obtaining Boyce since by drafting two speedsters, Belichick has made a commitment to stretching the field and being able to throw all types of passes. These moves make welker's departure make even more sense. If Gronkowski and Hernandez are both in (looks unlikely), he will be wanting to rotate receivers in. Also it gives him a better offense when one of the Tight Ends is out (pretty much all of last season).

Boyce looks like he will definitely have a future on the team, at the very least as a Donte Stallworth replacement.

I'm glad we didn't get Emmanuel Sanders now.
