arrington is part of the depth, he got owned in the game, would you rather have him gaurd welker or would you want mathieu?
Arrington was fine. Cole was the problem. The Pats need an upgrade at dime back, but that's terrible value anytime in the third or higher.

I'm astonished that so many live for so long with such soft, feeble minds & no natural defenses against the Elements.

***

We ravaged the Vikings.

There's simply no other way to view it.

If I was teaching a Class called "Realistic Mock Drafts 1.0", and some Patriots Fan had turned in a Mock with this Trade in it, I would've laughed in'is face, rolled up'is Report, swatted'm on the nose, and told'm to try something realistic.

once again you are throwing out baseless claims.

Boldin, Smith and Jones went a combined 9 for 135 2 TD against them and that was with their best CB missing most of the game.

You know what they did to that vaunted 49ers defense?

9 for 195 2 TD.

Or how about the 246 yards & 3 TD those 3 had against the 2nd best defense in the AFC the Broncos.

It was 14-13 going into the 4th quarter. They scored to make it 21-13 and on the ensuing drive Ridley got hit and fumbled to put the Ravens in Pats terrority and the offense did nothing the whole second half.

Stop. You are showing this board how clueless you are.

I'll be surprised if we don't see Bill trade up to get the guy he wants in the 2nd round.

By gaining as many picks as he did he's got s lot of room to maneuver to get all "his" type of players at various positions throughout the rest of the draft.
Don't be surprised if he trades one of the twos for a one in next years draft. The board will melt down.

We have 5 picks in the top 100 (well 102). We all expected Belichick to trade down unless one of his top targets was there. Apparently, Patterson or Elam didn't qualify. We know have a more normal number of picks for Belichick.

Mayock/Casserly expect 10 corners to be drafted in the 2nd round. We should get one, along with a WR.

And yes, we might move up as necessary.

Neither will likely be able to guard Welker.

Would like woods, lattimore & mathieu. perhaps Jesse Williams. Plenty of talent on the board.

So according to the value chart the Pats gave up pick 29 (670) and got 647 (52,83,102,229). I'm not overly excited. Could have got a starting player instead of a couple of guys that might play as backups. I would have liked a receiver at 29.

Alfonzo Dennard was a 7th rounder just last season. He's a starter going into this season. Deaderick and Edelman were 7th rounders as well. 7th round picks aren't useless.

True, you can find the occasional diamond in the rough in the later rounds, but for the most part I'll take my chances trying to land an impact player in the first round rather than the 7th round.

Also, it should be noted that this teams situation is somewhat unique. The Patriots have a qb whose window is closing rapidly. The team is near elite and in need of impact players, not 3rd and 4th rnd picks to develop for the 2017 season. They need to win NOW!

The Patriots approach to the draft as well as the free agent market has no urgency to it. Seems to me that the Patriots are content to stay in the same holding pattern that they have been in for nearly a decade. We need quality, not quantity.

You're kidding right?

I'm sorry ~ I didn't quite get that, what with the yowling and the screeching.

Would you mind repeating that? :)

God help us, then, if we play Denver.

Should we just forfeit? What do you think?

They could just try scheming to avoid leaving players one-on-one with Welker on big downs. The question posed, though was about a preference for an individual covering.

The trade will make sense or not depending on which players are available with those picks (directly and indirectly). I'll like the trade if we can snag a few of the following:

Tank Carradine
Brandon Williams
Markus Wheaton
Quinton Patton
Terron Armstead
Menelik Watson

If we don't get any of those guys, but still get others that make an impact it'll be a good trade.

Picks are a means to an end, nothing more.

Just woke up to find out about this much expected trade. We all knew that the Pats would trade down, but never expected to get this much for a late 1st round pick. I'm excited we got a lot, but some of my excitement is tempered by the fact that the Vikings picked exactly whom I hoped the Pats would've picked at 29. To me, Patterson has the most upside of any receiver in the draft, and he's the most versatile receiver outside of Tavon Austin. Patterson is a very talented return man as well as he even rushed for almost 300 yards out of the backfield.

The Pats really must come away with a very talented receiver with these picks, or this trade is a bust. Sure it looks good value wise, and point wise it looks close, but if it winds up being Darius Butler/Ron Brace/ JAG/JAG for a stud receiver type of trade, then who cares how many draft choices we got in return. Sometimes quality is more important than quantity. Plus the fact that all the picks are late in the round don't help either, unless the Pats are willing to trade back UP in the round to get their guy. Very risky business model that hasn't always worked out for Belichik, in fact, more often than not, the picks have been busts.

It's just common sense that the later you pick, the more of a crapshoot it is. Hence the value of taking 1st round picks. Sure there are busts, but odds are in the favor of the higher picked players. Hopefully Belichick proves me wrong, his record isn't completely stellar in these kind of moves.

its not a deep Draft i don't see much value in having two picks in the bottom of the 2th would love for the pats to trade one for a #1 next year, im sure the pats will find a good player with does late round picks they always do

the most value is rounds 2-4 this year..and now they have those picks.

Plus they now have picks to move up in rd 2 if they wish to take a WR i hope

Lets not get too excited. Before 2010-12 we had millions of picks every year and they all turned into scrubs.

In the end it all comes down to talent evaluation. I hope we end up with with at least two starters from that #29 pick, especially if Patterson ends up being a superstar.

I'm hoping for something along the lines of. Woods, Jesse Williams, Matieu and Caradine. I would be happy with that.

IF...IF is a big word and rookie WRs can take a while to develop.

Plus most of the guys they want are still on the board..and now they have the chips to move up in 2nd if they want. Very very smart draft so far and it's only day 1

Love the draft value still left on the draft board:

Markus Wheaton, WR - Oregon State (79)
Brian Schwenke, OC/OG - California (80)
Robert Alford, CB - Southeastern Louisiana (83)
Bennie Logan, DT - LSU (96)
Barrett Jones, OC/OG - Alabama (100)
Khaseem Greene, OLB - Rutgers (105)
Josh Evans, FS - Florida (124)
Duke Williams, SS - Nevada (156)
Josh Boyce, WR - TCU (169)
