Ryan Mallett trade rumors resurface, hours before draft begins

Not sure why you want to trade our high upside backup QB for slop just to get it over with.

I said it before and I'll say it again - I would only trade Mallett for a #1 or for a #2 and #3 in any combination of this years and next year.

that value is about right given the only concern that existed prior him slipping was his attitude......

even if we get something good, I fear that there will be a day we regret getting rid of him......if he could be tacked onto the end of brady, that's an extra 10 years of good QBing

Good luck with that. Even the dumbest teams in the league aren't stupid enough to trade a first rounder for Mallett. Honestly, it's surprising me that the Pats are even asking for a second rounder.

It would take at least Mallett and the Pats' first rounder to trade up to get the #6 pick (probably more, potentially much more).

Mallett, 29 and Brandon Spikes for their 34 D in exchange for 6 and 68 has been mentioned in the draft forum.

Source on team that inquired Pats about Ryan Mallett: "He'd be first overall pick in this draft. He's had two years in Pats system."

Source adds that Patriots don't seem serious in any way about trading him.

That's what they want them to think.

Fine, I'll keep him then. I like Mallett better than any of the QB in this draft. And QB do get hurt, even Brady. It's a big risk to trade your backup QB and I'm not giving him away to take on that risk.

Hey if Mallett is the first overall pick if he was coming out this year, I'll gladly take Cleveland's 6th overall. Giving them a real discount there :D.

That's nearly idiotic given the sheer number of needs that can be filled on this team for even acquiring a second rounder...

If the Patriots can get a 2nd round pick for a QB whose entire regular season NFL experience consists of walking into a blowout and immediately throwing a terrible pick, that's straight up thievery. I can't believe this is serious conversation, but I can at least hope that Lombardi is this nuts.

Mallett has shown nothing to justify a high pick. I'm all for the Patriots robbing another team, but that's exactly what that would be. People making the "I wouldn't take less than a ..." lines are insane.

and Jason Pierre Paul didn't show too much in his 1 season of college football and yet was a top 15 pick.

its all about potential and how much they are willing to spend.

voice of reason......anyone lower would like not contribute in a way that makes getting rid of mallett worth it

also, the notion of the pats being done if brady goes down is silly in the AFC east......by the end of the matt cassell season, teams were happy that the pats missed the playoffs......they were pretty scary to the tune of beating the AFC champ by 40 in week 16

can't take anything for granted these days

Put me down as a person who thinks some Patriots fans are severely undervaluing Mallet. I watched so much of him in college. The kid is the real deal when it comes to arm strength and touch, and believe it or not, he has some athleticism. What remains to be seen is his command of the pocket and his command of the offense--but those questions go for every single draftable QB out there.

Our starting QB will be 36 by the start of the season. Not many 36 year old QBs have made it through an entire 16 games season without missing some games. At this stage of Brady's career, it's important to have a capable backup QB.

Kafka is not the answer. Maybe Mallett isn't either, but at this stage of the offseason he's the best one available.

tell me about that terrible pick, because the throw was absolute killer.......

Why not if it nets the Pats an extra 2nd? Not saying I like Glennon, but if Brady is injured then the season is over anyway.

Was the season over in 2008 ? No, the Pats went 11-5, and were only the 2nd team in 30 years to have an 11 win season and not make the playoffs.

It was all about potential the year he was drafted. He went in the 3rd round. This year, it's all about panic over a lousy QB class in a year where the Patriots need draft picks. Posters who are saying things like "There's no way I'd take less than a first round pick" aren't really thinking things through. According to reports, even the Patriots initial asking price isn't that high. When a notoriously hard dealing team is lowballing compared to you, that should be a definite tip that you might be over the top.

Also rumors from multiple sources of rampant cocaine use

ooohhhh.....rumors..........never heard of anything being close to substantiated

I heard a rumor he was going to be in the HOF someday

Yes, the season was over in 2008.

You mean that sheer number: 1
