I would be surprised if we used our first round pick, but then again every draft is full of surprises..

A trade back for 2 2nd round picks would allow the Patriots to select a WR, CB, and a DL. All positions of great need.

There were a bunch of players still on the board when Reiss made his pick (Carradine, Werner, Williams, Hayden ....) BB would probably trade back given that board, but then again if some of those players drop it'd be a tough call. Dropping down to the top of the 2nd only will net a 4th by the value chart. I would think they'd need more than that to pass on some of those players.

No one knows how this draft is going to turn out though. The players are all over the map. The more I think on it, a WR, CB and a 2014 1 or 2 works for me (they would imo really need to sign Abraham in that case.)

I wouldn't be unhappy with an early 2nd and a 3rd.

We're all expecting the team to trade down.

That usually means the team will trade up.

Hah -- just posted on the Draft board about this, and how I was surprised to see that National Football Post has Allen rated their top receiver. Their report on him makes him sound like a good get at 29.

That said, yeah, I could see the Pats trading out for more value, if they can find a trade partner. Not sure I can sum up the energy to invest in watching the proceedings Thursday night — all that anticipation for a likely trade out at the end. Of course you never know.

While you were out playing patty cake with your friend Pedro, your Uncle Rico made $125 bucks.

Maybe if a Keenan Allen is available at #29 BB will make a historic break with the past and draft a highly rated WR....but I doubt it. I doubt Allen will be there and I doubt BB is going to change a lifetime of draft history and pick a WR in the first. Back in the day when the Pats actually WON Super Bowls, and not just got to them, they didn't have nearly the receiving talent that they have right now....and the season doesn't start for another 4.5 months.

Right now MY ideal realistic draft would be Alabama DT Jesse Williams at #29 and Athletic freak, but football risk, DE Margus Hunt at #59, after that the WR weenies can have their fill, though I think there will still be some decent DB options in the 3rd round

I'll be surprised if we trade down, not because it doesn't make eminent sense. The talent pool at the end of first and the top of the 2nd will have the same grades. But the fact is that nearly EVERYONE is looking to trade down this year. I just wonder if there will be a market for the 29th pick, and even if there is, in such a buyer's market, can they get decent value in a trade.

You usually don't get TWO 2nd's for a late round 1st, usually a 2nd and a 3rd. Unless the other team is stupid (or desperate).

You sure do seem to have a lot of hostility toward those that have the gall to suggest that the biggest trainwreck on the current roster be addressed first. Further, you follow that by suggesting that the second biggest need be addressed with Margus Hunt?

2013 ESPNBoston mock draft - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Reiss selects for the Pats WR Keenan Allen, but notes the board's set up would be perfect for a trade back.

I think most here prefer the trade down but the problem is going to be trade value in this draft as there are going to be a good number of teams who want to play this draft in the exact same way, and like everything else Belichick is not going to take less value than he believes is worth the pick. i think most here really believed the pick used on Ras I-Dowling was going to be traded but when it came down to it the value simply wasn't there and he took the prospect over the deal, we may well see the exact same dynamic this year, with the silver lining being that the quality of players available at 29 looks to be really good. If it works out that guys like Werner are actually available then they will be fine regardless of whether they trade down or take the player.

The other factor that comes into play is their evaluation of next year's draft, and there is a possibility that they see it as a weak class overall and may do the unthinkable and trade future picks, but that cost is generally too high and it is not the way they tend to do business. If they love a player in the early third they may make a move but it would probably cost next year's second, which as usual should be very late second.

So, the Jets would certainly give us 2 second rounders

People also said BB wouldn't trade up, BB wouldn't take a ILB high, he wouldn't take a Guard in the 1st round. Nothing BB does would surprise me.

I'd be happy if we spend #29 on a WR, DL and DB in that order (my preference). As long as those positions are addressed in the first 3 rounds, I'll be happy. My thoughts are, if someone wants to trade up with the Pats, for a decent booty, the Pats will do it, unless the Pats are in love with someone at #29.

Please note this prediction, somehow, some way, we will wind up drafting WR Ryan Swope from Texas A&M. I guarantee it.

the biggest train wreck being the wide receivers?

lol

Even with a complete swap of numbers from last year where one player was part time, and the other was injured for most of the year, Brady would have still put up almost 4,000 yards and close close to 30 tds.

The loss of welker and lloyd isn't going to be as drastic as the doom and gloom crowd seem to think. We still have two of the top tight ends in the league(albeit hobbled at the moment) Amendola will have a 1k yard season, and i expect jones to put up at least 400 yards.

The biggest train wreck is the defense. last time i checked we still are only 1 deep at CB. and if the ravens game showed us anything its that one of our CB went down(talib) we **** the bed. Welker and Lloyd didnt exactly win teh game for us did they?

Defense wins championships.

Sweet Baby Jesus that is a dream first round for the Patriots, they could not come off the board any better imo. Eddie Lacy, Arthur Brown, Manti Teo, and Damontre Moore all go ahead of their pick and the QB's are sitting there for the run on them that will cause teams to want to trade back into the first. If the draft falls this way then the Patriots will be sitting pretty at 29, unfortunately i doubt it will actually go this way but we will see.

Taking this draft as it is the Patriots have a really tough decision to make, as they should be able to get a good deal done, the questions to answer will be how far they have to drop before picking in the 2nd, and whether there are players simply too good to pass on. If they only have to drop to the eagles pick in the 2nd then i would make a deal to move down provided the compensation is fitting, if not then I would take Bjorn Werner DE and go WR with the next 2 picks. I would also seriously consider trading next year's second for an early 3rd to bulk up at WR in the 50's-early 70's range.

So, the Jets would certainly give us 2 second rounders

And the funny thing is, they don't realize they don't have two 2nd round picks.

Allen is not likely to be there at 29. If he's there, I expect that we would draft him.

And yes, the wide receiver position is position of great need, and IMHO, "trainwreck" is an accurate assessment.
