I'd stay away from Mathieu, but maybe the wild-eyed insanity of Dennard, Talib and Mathieu will scare receivers from even running their routes.

Yes, thank god Mathieu would have Talib as a role model... but I guess as long as they can ball...

Thank you for setting up this contest, a needed diversion.

Aqib Talib - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Legal and conduct issues

Talib has had several conduct related issues since his NFL career started. At the NFL rookie symposium in July 2008, Talib was involved in a fistfight with fellow Buccaneers rookie Cory Boyd.[11] On August 20, 2009, Talib allegedly battered a taxi driver,[12] and he was arrested by Florida Highway Patrol and booked into the Pinellas County jail, charged with resisting arrest without violence and simple battery.[13] In March 2011, police in Garland, Texas issued a felony warrant for Talib for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after accusing him of firing a gun at his sister's boyfriend.[14] He was later released on $25,000 bond. Talib was indicted on the charge in May 2011.[15] On June 18, 2012 the charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence and character concerns with the accuser.[16]"

Trufant could well go above #29, that's a fall up I think...

Nobody doesn't like Wheaton.

I used to like Hunter, but no more. Harper and Dobson could well work out better and they're coming off later.

I don't like Mathieu, and he doesn't fit - a bad combo IMO.

Odds are I go 0 for 5 but it is only for fun.

***UPDATE*** Circumstances being what they are, I am forced to redo my draft. All right, the trade first.

Chip Kelly at Philly isn't happy relying on his two starters at QB, Michael Vick and Nick Foles. Herpes and Wayne's World.

So we give him our first-rounder (29) in exchange for his second (third pick, #35) and fourth (fourth pick, #101). Sweet Moses, that's pretty good. Kelly really wants EJ Manuel or Matt Barkley. Who really cares. We take the deal in a heart beat.

So here goes:

Second Round--from Eagles--Pick 3, (35). Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State. Perfect fit for our defense. He'll be our best corner since...well, he'll look a lot like Raymond Clayborne.

Second Round, Pick 27, (59). Margus Hunt, DE, SMU. Teams weren't willing to go for him earlier because of his lack of experience at a school like SMU. He bats down balls. He's tall. And we like guys named Hunt on the D-line. Scheme-wise he's versatile and smart. Didn't he fight Rocky in Russia?

Third Round, Pick 29, (91). Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall. His Pro Day showed excellent 4.4 speed, which is what we draft high for WRs. And he's tall. Ain't that the school Troy Brown and Randy Moss played at? Big and fast. Make Brady excited for training camp. We've got to feed the beast. He was kind enough with his contract. A tall speed merchant on the outside--even if corners can stay with him, can they out-jump him?

Fourth Round--from Eagles--Pick 4, (101). Josh Boyce, WR, TCU. Look at his numbers: 40 in 4.34, 3-cone in 6.68. He's decent size, too, at 5' 11", 206 pounds. Josh Boyce, WR, TCU, NFL Draft - CBSSports.com - NFLDraftScout.com

Seventh Round (226). Brandon Magee, OLB, Arizona State. Undersized, injury plagued, under the radar player who is a model citizen in the locker room. Is football a priority. Brandon Magee Scouting Report: NFL Outlook for Arizona State OLB | Bleacher Report

Update: this is not a mock draft thread. it's to just name 5 players who you think the Patriots will take in the draft.

I deleted your other post. I'll take the players that you listed as your 5.This is your final bite of the apple.

Good job keeping everybody on the straight and narrow!

I miss the guess the score contest. At least your knew it was just two numbers you had to guess and there was a shot you'd get close. With the draft and Belichick, we don't even know how many picks he'll wind up with - I bet it's more than five by the end of the draft.

Maybe that should be the guessing game. How many draft picks will Belichick make in the 2013 draft?

WR Robert Woods USC
WR Quinton Patton LA Tech
WR Aaron Mellette Elon

CB Johnny Adams Michigan St.

Didn't know if I would be able to get this in on time. Glad to be back!

WR Robert Woods
WR Keenan Allen
CB Blidi Wreh-Wilson
WR Josh Boyce
OL David Bahktiari

Would have Hopkins, but I don't think he falls. I think Swope is more likely than Boyce, but I really really don't want Swope, so I'm not putting him down.

Markus Wheaton, WR - Oregon State
Josh Evans, FS - Florida
Duke Williams, SS - Nevada
Josh Boyce, WR - TCU

I haven't been here in months. I haven't studied this draft class at all. I know nothing. NOTHING.

But heck, I can't do any worse than I did in the years when I spent countless hours poring over prospects, right?

Shawn Williams, SS, Georgia

(God knows what positions they play or who they play for, but I think that's the names of five draft-eligible players. :D )

Jonathan Banks CB
Aaron Dobson WR
Lavar Edwards DE
Jelani Jenkins LB (really ST)
Rodney Smith WR

Only as extra credit, if the Pats trade down and acquire another 2013 pick (not sure why they would want to):
Hugh Thornton OG

If this looks like a poor use of the picks available, you are correct. This assumes the Pats trade down and into 2014 at every possible occasion...only stopping to take sliding players:

Banks - Went from #2 CB to #2 CB from MissSt based on combine 40 time
Dobson - Not really a slide but can't see Pats exiting day 2 without WR
Edwards - Not a starter at LSU but love his game as a rotational guy on the line
Jenkins - His game is awesome for kick coverage, not stopping the run
Smith - Took step back his senior year and fell completely off radar

Arthur Brown, OLB, Kansas State
Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State
Cornelius Washington, DE/OLB, Georgia
Courtney Gardner, WR, Sienna
Ray Ray Armstrong, SS, Miami (FL)
