2013 Patriots Draft Contact List

get me sam mcguffie right now we need another short white skill player

Not too much of a surprise but New England has worked out Iowa WR Keenan Davis after he ran a 4.41 40.

Can't link but the article is at kcrg.com.

"Only Tennessee’s Cordelle Patterson — the top receiver prospect — can match Davis’ size (6-foot-2, 215 pounds) and run faster. Davis has worked out for the New England Patriots and has fielded phone calls from other NFL teams this spring."

Along with Ezekiel Ansah, Patriots working out BYU guys Uona Kaveinga and Brandon Ogletree.

Always liked Brandon Ogletree when I watched BYU. Ran a 4.61 at his pro day which would have placed him third at the combine. Team captain also.

Edit: Was just looking through Brandon Ogletree's twitter timeline and this made me chuckle:

Ziggy just asked me what the NFC and AFC are. #Learningcurve

This is the full list to date that I've been able to cobble together. If anyone has any updates or corrections, please say so. For what it's worth, because it's not always clear on twitter, I've made no distinction between types of Private Workouts:

Great job so far, manxman2601, very helpful.

I'm pretty sure Patriots will sign various UDFA from the above list.

Not so sure about draft, ;-)

Thanks. Actually enjoy doing it.

One other bit of news. It's already been mentioned that BB did a private workout with some Florida players like Earl Okine, Josh Evans and more. That might not be too huge because he was already in the area. But apparently Nick Caserio also attended so it might actually be something more:

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was also in Gainesville over the weekend first to watch his daughter (an assistant coach for Ohio State’s lacrosse team) on Saturday and then to hold a private workout with five Florida players on Sunday, OGGOA has learned. Participating in Sunday’s private workout were McCray, linebackers Jon Bostic and Jelani Jenkins, safety Josh Evans and defensive lineman Earl Okine. The only other person in attendance to watch the workouts was Belichick’s right-hand man, New England director of player personnel Nick Caserio.

Echoing the great job, Manxman.

From toledoblade.com - Another name to add to the list.

"He (OL Eric Herman of Ohio) spent the lead-up to the combine at a training facility in Pensacola, Fla. and since has worked out in Athens, where he held a private workout for the Patriots last week.

Or that he knocked the wind out of a Patriots assistant who wanted to see Herman punch the blocking pad he held."

Thanks. Good spot. Here's the link. Well worth a read by everyone.

Ex-Irish standout Herman playing draft

Just got this tweet from Ethan Hammerman re Herman:

@ConCabbie And they also went to OU multiple times this year to watch him play.

I agree with everyone else, great job manx!

Thanks. Actually enjoy doing it.

Interesting that Matt Elam wasn't one of the guys there. I really like Jelani Jenkins in the mid/late rounds as a potential coverage LBer with huge upside to be a really good all around player.

Josh Evans is someone getting a late bounce in draft stock recently and would be that pure cover guy to backup McCourty. I also wonder whether Lerentee McCray is of interest as a sub package DE speed rusher. They certainly looked at that position before last years draft. McCray was also one who gave Joeckel some problems last year too.

looking at the position in a fairly big way:

If the Pats pick him up...I will be so happy. RT @jeffphowe: Kansas State linebacker Arthur Brown visited the Patriots yesterday.

Hey Manx - You read my mind. Very excited.....I hope that this guy (Brown) is there for us. He would be a classic Patriot and would really improve our defense next year. He has it all....

The Blitz with Jeff Howe & Karen Guregian | Boston Herald

If the Patriots are up for adding a coverage linebacker, they might have spotted their answer yesterday.

Kansas State linebacker Arthur Brown visited Gillette Stadium, and he is in the top tier at his position. Brown could essentially play anywhere in the 4-3, but he is more suited for an outside position. He could also play next to Jerod Mayo in nickel sets on passing downs. It's even possible the Patriots are planning for the possibility of losing Brandon Spikes when his contract expires next offseason.

Another linebacker you say?

Ayup. Apparently every position is getting scouted :)

Not DT or even DE (a little). I just find it interesting that LB seems to have appeared on the contact list quite late in the process.

I am just thankful that I observed what I observed last year when it came to our linebackers, including the Ravens game.

Here is the other thing about our linebackers. The 2nd half of that Ravens game, Bernard Pierce was a monster but a lot of that had to do with our linebackers inability to shed blockers. He had a 7.5 YPC in the 2nd half of which each run gave the Ravens a 1st down or put them in a short down and distance situation.

If there is one thing that can be said about Brown is that he attacks the point of contact. He doesn't shy away from it.

It really makes me wonder if BB and Caserio really wanted Bobby Wagner in last years' draft since he was the pick immediately before Tavon Wilson.

The other thing to point out with the LBs is that they're pretty much all WILL types on our defense - there's no Kevin Minter or Te'o that we know of. If they do draft one in the first three rounds, Jerod Mayo will have to play somewhere eventually which presumably means bye bye Spikes unless he re-signs for relatively low money.

So if we did take someone like Brown and had a starting three of Brown, Mayo, Hightower which positions would they play ? Understanding that the roles aren't always as simple as they are made out to be. It seems like both Mayo and Brown would best be WOLB in the 4-3 but if one of them were in the middle we'd pick up a ton of coverage. Mayo and Brown would be a good pair in the nickel, not sure if Hightower would be off the field or playing on the line there.

belicheck010405 - there was a good amount of Wagner buzz for the Patriots this time last year, I wouldn't be surprised if that was their guy and Wilson was a panic pick.
