Ocho was 10x the receiver Jones will ever be. It happens.

Some players just don't pan out in this system.

Ocho was old and done by the time we got him. How come he couldn't make it with any team after us?

Off field issues/assaulting his wife. It was never physical ability that held him back in Miami

That's just not true.

How can you say a 34 year old WR didn't have physical issues who since turning 30 has been injury prone and not as productive?

There were numerous reports before and after his stint with the Patriots that it wasn't physical ability holding him back. He just didn't get the playbook plain and simple.

Talking about the Miami experience. We are well aware of his lack of commitment to learning the offense.

There were also a couple of hundred plays that he was on the field for in 2011 that proved it was physical ability. That means more than 'reports'. The reports were also speculation and analysis, not actual reporting of the decision making process of the coaching staff.

If the Patriots roster has him down as a WR, he goes in the list of WR's.

If I call him a giraffe, does that make him a giraffe? Subtract one catch in his five year career and he has as much claim to a 20 ft neck as he does to being a wide receiver.

Seriously, if we have enough injuries that we need to start Slater at WR, do you think we would over the first five guys available on the waiver wire?

He is less an option at WR than White is at LB, than Cole is at CB. He'll possibly be less than a rugby player is at defensive back, at some point.

He can run the 6 yards in the 10 out of 16 games he will play in when lloyd can play in all 16 games and get 900 yards.

Do people forget he was 80 something away from 1,000 yards? Edelman will never produce close to that. He wouldn't be healthy long enough to have a chance...

Edelman has missed 16 games since 2009. Llyod has missed 15 in the same amount of time and 28 since 2007.

Lloyd was brought in to be the teams #1 receiver, 900 yards is no big deal at all, a disappointment if anything considering Brady threw for 4600+ yards and factoring in all the time Gronk and Hernandez missed.

People are forgetting about Cribbs

Josh Cribbs, the Cardinal?

I can't imagine any other team eager to sign Edelman, so I imagine he'll be back on a 1 or 2 year deal for small guarantee and good incentives.

Edelman isn't a very productive WR at the moment, but he's improved every year and can be lined up at flanker, slot, and in the backfield and run away from linebackers and less athletic safeties. I would certainly have him on the roster than Lloyd, who really isn't a number 1 receiver, can really only line up in one spot, and offers nothing on Special Teams. Edelman also possesses some home run ability, which Lloyd has never had. I don't really see it as either/or right now, but if BB is only going to re-sign one, I think it would be Edelman.

Edelman is a very strong punt returner (>15 yards per return in two of the last three years), plays on kickoffs, and is versatile in the offense. He also seems to be a hard ass worker.

His injuries worry me, but he does a lot for this team and knows the system. I'd definitely like to keep him around.

I agree. The reason Welker got so many passes were Edelman's injury, Gronk's & AH's injuries, and Branch as a faint shadow of his old self, and Lloyd was unreliable. The opportunities were there. Lloyd did not take advantage. In that offense, with all those injuries, a WR of Lloyd's talent should have gone over 1000 yds.

He was brought in to be an outside threat and open up the mid-level passing game for WW, Gronk and AH. He was never brought in to be the teams #1 receiving option.

Even though he had trouble getting on the same page with Brady and had some injury issues of his own, Lloyd accounted for 18% of all receptions and 19% of all yards gained in the passing game and caught 57% of the balls in his direction.

I firmly believe that he still has value to the team just not at $4.9m in 2013.

#1 wide receiver (which is what I wrote), not #1 receiving option.

Hopin he stays. Before his injury, he was on fire! Plus, if he leaves, I'll lose a 3rd jersey to wear. In fact, I'm wearin his jersey right now.

Since when is Josh Cribbs a Cardinal? I believe he visited them and the Cleveland newspaper claimed that a source close to him said that he'd narrowed it down to 2 teams of NE and ARZ.

I tend to agree with you, but Evan Silva currently has Edelman listed as his #1 WR remaining (as of yesterday prior to the Llyod release), so it's possible that some don't agree with our thinking. On top of that there were reportedly at least 2-3 teams that were initiating calls to Edelman's rep over last weekend's tampering period, so there is other interest.

If he could be re-signed so easily and cheaply I would hope that Belichick would take advantage of doing so in the near future.

Damn not a good jersey choice, hopefully you didn't spend too much $. I have a Brady/Mayo jerseys because they are with the team for the long term.

There are 3 good reasons why I want Edelman back:

1. His obvious ST ability that proves that he's good to take it to the house at least once every season. With Welker gone, I'd like to still have that option along with a combination of Amendola/Washington.

2. The fact that he's been developing much better as a WR over the past year or so. Mike Reiss pointed out how much he had improved upon his overall speed from 2011 to 2012, and Edelman and Brady worked hard in California last offseason to help with his progression and rapport with our QB. There were certainly some very nice flashes from Edelman in the past year, and I would like to see him brought in for 15-20 reps a game to use his strengths and act as a depth option at WR.

3. With Amendola showing some injury concerns in the past 2 yrs I'd certainly like to retain Edelman and his experience and knowledge of our scheme, even if he hasn't seen as many reps as we'd have liked. One would think that a combination of Amendola/Edelman would certainly get us through 16+ games, and if Amendola does have to rest a few games I'd want to have Edelman replacing him.
