So much for the home town discount

It's Incarcerated Bob From Dartmouth!

I don't think many players ever did take home town discounts just a select few that we remember.

This is a business, don't blame Wes at all dude gets destroyed every game who knows how he will be 10 years down the road.

Brady probably is pissed, but they're going to spend to the cap he isn't the GM to say who they spend it on.

Not only that but to properly factor things in how many took the discount to get some money guaranteed and ended up injured never to sign another contract. What if Gronk never returns to being Gronk again  ... his deal would then become a great calculated risk ...same for Brady  with his guaranteed money.

Felger????

Fredfromdartmouth. Is your name Fred and are you really from Dartmouth? I am still waiting for an answer.

Was your soul purpose on coming here to embarrass yourself? From what I have seen that is all you do.

You must get zero attention from people in your life. To have to come here and be such a blithering, idiot, crybaby, with on top of that zero understanding of football. It is your pathetic attempt to get attention and well....its pathetic.

Brady must be livid that he took a cheaper contract to save the team money and now the team has been using it to restock its roster.

Livid, I tell you, livid.

Well, the start of free agency has really shown who should be on the ignore list.

I still think Fred is really Steve from Fall River ... :bricks::bricks::bricks:

OK now that was a low blow...

Someday I will have to call into Felger so you guys know that I am NOT Steve...Felger will rip my head off after all I have said about him here but (I hate to admit this) I agree with Felgie on the Welker fiasco.

BTW is it just me or does Steve from Fall Ribba have the most ugly accent in the Northeast?

so many PONIES

Happy to move on from Welker. Welker overestimated his market value. His mistake. Pats offered him market rate, Welker choose to move on and did not get the money he thought that he was worth. It is what it is - business. Employers should always pay market rate or less for employees. Sentiment should never be included in salary. Salary is for what the employee does for the employer for current performance, not past performance. Any employers that pay on sentimental past performance value will fail in the market. See the Jets.

Useless thread. Not worthy of 29 (now 30) replies. For the love of God, please lock.

Never again can the Patriots to expect a player to take a home town discount after what happened to Brady and Welker. If the team is going to nickle and dime them then I expect players to do the same to the team. No longer will players put up with that bullbleep; they will pull a Welker. I don't blame Welker one bit; enough is enough.

Add Brandon Lloyd to the mix. He wouldn't play ball either and got his release today because he wouldn't renegotiate down. He'll sign for bigger money elsewhere.

The BB/Kraft el cheapo show will only work as long as #12 is in the house.
When Brady retires and this team becomes average just watch and see how few if any quality FA's come here.

BTW Brady has given the Patriots a hometown discount his entire career. Most in and out of the game think TB is the best QB in football yet TB has never pulled the "I'm the best and want to be the highest paid QB" card.
It's too bad because I think Brady should be much more strident in demanding things from this organization roster wise also.
TB is too much the company man for my taste and I think it's hurt him.....like in 2006. Btw this receiving corp is shaping up to be yet another below par group.
Pathetic.

I can't understand how some of you guys can totally discount the fact that Belichick has consistently won and made this team insanely competitive in the salary cap era--more than any other team in the entire NFL.

Yet you constantly still fail to grasp the idea of needing to make tough cap decisions based on the present AND future of the team itself?

It's like the whole flat cap/cap crunch issue with about 1/2 to 2/3 of all NFL teams lately has gone right over your heads....

It's honestly amazing. What we're seeing is the common opinion of the average and casual Sunday watching fan who really doesn't follow the team that closely.

Fred you sound like a cranky old man who can't find his teeth.

Exactly what happened to Brady and Welker? Lets look.

1. Poor Brady got screwed when he had to accept $3MM more in payment over the next 2 years. Now that's the kind of discount I'm looking to get.

2. Welker was disrespected when he was made to accept $9,3MM in payment when his true market was closer to below $7.

3. Wekler was once again disrespected when he was forced to turn down an insulting 2 year $16MM guaranteed offer that turned out to be ABOVE the market rate by $2MM/yr

4. ...and then the final insult, when the Pats were proven to be corect in assessing Wes' true market, they didn't wait around for him to come back with a counter. Those BASTARDS

OOOOHHHHH THE HORROR!

I bet we all would LOVE to be disrespected like that! :D

Rhody and Fred are never happy unless they are unhappy.

How about 2007, did you miss that?

Curran said something yesterday about how people sleeping under the roof and eat the food BB provides and then have the audacity to question the manor in which he provides it. So true.

2006 was a season that saw the team go 12-4, have the #2 scoring defense in the league, and probably should have brought an additional Lombardi trophy to Foxborough. The 2nd half demise in the AFCCG by the ill and fatigued defense unfortunately, did not allow that to happen.

If 2006 is going to be a year that proves a lack of talent at the WR position, it should also be noted for all of its other accomplishments. As a matter of fact, you guys may actually be making a stronger case for Belichick to not have to worry as much about the WRs, due to the fact that they've already shown that they can almost win the SB with the worst group on the planet.

I highly doubt it will be anything near that bad. At the moment we've replaced one, upgraded Edelman with D.Jones (a much better overall receiver, and an upgrade at WR3 or WR4), and lost one...which happened this afternoon.

Btw this receiving corp is shaping up to be yet another below par group.

It's been a total of a couple/few hours since they cut Brandon Llyod. Talk about an overreaction!

They could have any number of plans in place to bring him back on a cheaper deal, to replace and potentially upgrade him, etc.

For all we know he may have had conditioning issues, attitude problems, or any other number of limitations that they deemed to be not worthy of paying him a 5 million dollar cap hit this year.

Let's wait for the finished product, or at least another month or so to see what kind of things they did to replace the enormous hole left by Brandon Llyod.

You cannot possibly believe that Brady signed the contract he did with an assurance that Welker would be back. Brady is not about money or team. He's about GOAT. In a couple years, when he finally hangs 'em up, TFP wants Robert Kraft to erect a statue of him in front of the Patriots HoF. After that, he wants the NFL to do the same at Canton. I'm sure he is very happy with the FA period because it increased his chances of hoisting another trophy.

Did Amendola give them the first time discount, or the out of towner discount?

Texas Tech unproven slot receiver discount?

Just name your price!

Shut up, Mike.
