Patriots release Brandon Lloyd

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

Lloyd is not the type of receiver the Pats need and will save the $3 million roster bonus for him. The Pats will also save $1.9M salary. Without question his numbers are one of the strangest I have seen. He played 84.8 percent of the offensive snaps, had 74 receptions. 911 yards and four touchdowns but there were games when I didn't know he was even playing.

Lloyd is quite the enigma.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

He caught 61% of his targets last season. From Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Great argument. It's not like using that stat by itself ignores countless factors, and it's not like Fitzpatrick had a completion rate basically identical to that number (60.6%). You have me sold.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

Patriots WR core has been bad since '10 hasn't stopped them.

Well I'd say it has since the lack of physical outside receivers played a decisive role in their playoff losses to the Jets, Giants and Ravens.

(If that post was sarcasm then forgive me)

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

i for one am dearly hoping Lloyd is back

the chemistry w/ Tom can only improve, and its best if his pay/bonus is much less than the 4.9mil for this year

however part of why Lloyd did not do here what he did in Denver has to do with us using him the wrong way

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

any chance lloyd comes back??:) he wasn't that bad imo...

jones, sanders, amendola....meh. not that great. more pressure on number 12. i fear its going to be another year wasted.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

Donald Jones

Oops. Forgot about this high impact player.

Still need a vertical threat though.

Then how did Lloyd become one of the best deep threats in football despite running a 4.6? There are a lot of things that go into being a good WR - deep threat, slot guy or possession receiver. Route running, quickness, speed, leaping ability, hands, strength, etc. I have no idea which of these Jones and Sanders lack, but it has to be something because their productivity scares nobody despite their 40 times. Do you think any defensive coordinator drew up games plans worrying about Bethel Johnson?

Brandon Lloyd with 1 career thousand yard season? Or are you referring to another player? Johnson's problem was he could not catch the football but he did average 15.5 yards in those rare situations that he did so yes I'm sure he did cause some concern early on.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

im not sure i like this move....now you have NO receivers on the roster who know and can perform in the system....

the new guys better get our system

Amendola is familiar with McDaniels' offense in St. Louis, and I still think Edelman will be back.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

I was kind of hoping we would keep him :/

Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

Moss was rotting in Oakland, he was still one of the best WR of all time when we got him.

He hadn't had more than 60 catches or a 1000 yard season in 3 years when we got him. He wasn't a best of all time till he put up his 2007 season here. Period, point, blank..

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

I bet he'll be back. They were talking restructure earlier, so the Pats clearly want him back, but at a lower price. He must think he's worth more than they're willing to pay, so he'll go and test the market. He's probably not as valuable to anyone else as he is to the Patriots, so once he goes out there and doesn't get an offer that he wants, I bet he'll be back at a reduced price.

Just trying to find these bad hands? If he is catching a higher % than his QB generally completes it doesn't add up to me.

He was open quite a bit down field for the Bills, the problem was Fitzpatrick would hit anything BUT Jones...usually the turf 10 yards short.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

Moss was one of the two best Wr's of all time, and one of the smartest.

You emphasize route a few routes, rather than reading the defense, reacting and seeing what Brady sees.

Moss' route was to go out. He didn't read defenses, his job was to beat the guy or guys that were covering him.

Did a damn great job of doing it. But let's not kid ourselves that Moss was this thinking man WR.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

Lloyd was willing to sign the re structured contract but promptly fell to the ground when he caught the pen. BB subsequently refused to hand him the contract while Lloyd was maintaining possession of pen in the fetal position.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

His nickname SB "fetal position".

Belichick called him the smartest receiver he's ever coached, and Belichick's not one to compliment players on his roster.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

What a let down hearing this news. We are so WR needy and we let a decent talent like this get away? He won't last long on the market. Probably talking to the Jets as we speak.

Re: Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd

Im curious to know what they'll do with the receiving group.
Are Sanders, Amendola, Jones and possible Edelman good enough?

Wouldnt surprise me to see Lloyd back.

Won't last long? He barley had any suitors last year...year older and on his 7th team i think? He will last very long on the market....

Even bedard and others have said..he doesn't have a market...
