Terrified of our WR situation

Individually, I like all of E.Sanders, Amendola, and D.Jones. Lloyd it's up in the air whether he will return this season.

How many times in the past have we had WR's come in here, do absolutely nothing and then leave and be told it's "because they couldn't pick up the playbook" or "because they couldn't click with Brady".

Well, we're looking at a season where ALL of Bradys receivers might be new guys who are learning the playbook and never caught passes from him before. Far too much pressure is being put on Brady to make it happen. I don't think those guys are scrubs, but they aren't physically dominating talents.

Im' not sure how we can expect to run last years offense with so many new guys- new guys Brady isn't going o trust for a while to run the hurry up offense.

For what it's worth the WR who couldn't pick the play book if my memory serves me correct were during O'Brien's tenure as OC not JM's.

Galloway 2009
Johnson 2011

Gaffney, Moss, Welker, Stallworth, all were able to pick up JM's with relative ease.

Stallworth needs to avoid Miami. Report today he was injured in a hot air balloon accident hitting power lines

Not terrified. They went to an AFCCG with nobodies in 2006, and no TEs. Even with 4 guys named Moe, we've got Gronk, Hernandez and the backs. I'll take that and a stellar D over prime Randy Moss any day, especially with #12 at the helm.

Howe tweets Lloyd to be released.

The Patriots will release Brandon Lloyd, according to a source.

Im looking forward to our wr core more than i have in years. For a long time I thought our offense would just die without welker and my fear was proven to be correct in 09 after welker blew his acl before the playoffs. Now we have some guys coming in with some yac ability and our offense has lost some predictability without welker so things will be exciting this year.

We will just resort to screens if everything fails and that isnt too bad.

Re: And The Focus Shifts to Wide Receiver

I have been on board with all of our moves including welker, but I am not on board with losing a draft pick for sanders. I feel there is a good chance that better receivers will be available in the 3rd round.

Well, you pretty much have to accept he'll take a year or two to develop into an NFL player. Are you willing to wait that long?

At least Sanders has done that part.

We aren't trying to run last years offense. Welker is gone, Lloyd might not be here, we're signing or have signed a few 4.4 guys. We're going to attempt to be more vertical this season while still having the underneath stuff covered with Amendola and the Tight Ends.

The team is becoming more aggressive on both sides of the ball. Wilson is an enforcer type, him and spikes together can set the tone on early downs. Abraham and/or Freeney to assist a pathetic pass rush from last year will help on 3rd downs. Speed guys on offense, who appear capable of running most of the routes in any playbook, at least at a glance they do, they are largely unproven, i'll give you that.

The team is looking, to me anyways, to move away, even if just a little, from the bend-but-don't-break defense and dink-and-dunk offense to units capable of bigger plays, while sacrificing some consistency.

I'm not saying this won't fail miserably, but I'm liking the theme i'm seeing so far quite a bit.

I agree. Gotta love the new approach.

Brady is in the Twilight of his career if you haven't noticed.

Because I am not overly impressed with Sanders, I will have patience even if the end result turns out be basically Taylor Price.

I think we could see WR addressed midseason like CB was last year. This offseason didn't present any options that added the physical outside threat at receiver w/o destroying cap flexibility. Bowe was the only receiver worth a lucrative long term deal and he never hit the market. Miami got in a bidding war with themselves over Mike Wallace. Greg Jennings is an injury prone receiver under 6' who would have cost a fortune. Outside of those 3 there wasn't much.

OTOH, there's a good chance a relationship between a receiver and his team that's already fragile or has the potential to get fragile quickly gets sour before the trade deadline. The most likely one here is Santonio Holmes since there's plenty of bad blood between him and the Jets already while they might be in full firesale mode by week 4. Other possibilities include Steve Smith (Carolina), DeSean Jackson, Brandon Marshall with a new coach who might not tolerate his volatile behavior, and probably a few I'm not thinking of.

Re: And The Focus Shifts to Wide Receiver

Letting lloyd go means to me they want sanders and bad. Brought him in..reports of an offer sheet signed..then not..so i assume one is made up..he just has to sign it

Sanders will be a patriot. if not. We have some big holes

The Steelers wanted to tender Sanders at a 2nd or 1st round level reportedly but they didn't have the cap room to do so. Tendering him at a 3rd round level was a move of desperation. We won't find anyone in the draft where we're picking who can contribute as quickly as him.

Re: And The Focus Shifts to Wide Receiver

I don't think WR should be our focus at all. We still need another pass rusher and another CB for depth.

He was a #3 WR only because he was on the same team as Mike Wallace and Antonio Brown. He can be a #1 on most other teams in the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if he's actually better than Antonio Brown.

You're out of your mind then.

Letting Lloyd go means to me that they just saved 2.9 mil. in salary cap dollars, nothing more. I doubt at this point that they have any idea who his replacement will be.

Sanders will never be signed to an offer sheet. Bob Kraft would not permit
it. Don't you remember the Welker deal? There had to be a trade, #2 pick
as the tender offer required plus a #7 pick to save face. It's possible a
trade might occur. Do you think Kraft would T. O. the Rooney family?

I wonder how Brady feels at this point? Cut a deal to get salary cap room and see his wide receiving corps decimated. I wouldn't blame him if he
reported to training camp in late August.

We're fine. Our offense may not be #1 overall next year but we should be top 5.

Our WRs on our first two SB teams weren't exactly superstars. Plus, now we have two beasts playing TE.

Did you forget that we claimed Jake Ballard off the waiver wire at the 31st spot a few weeks after losing to the Giants who were in the 32nd spot?

That poster doesn't realize no wide receivers = no passing attack = no wins.
