NOT bad after THREE days - updated

AMENDOLA replaces Welker

WASHINGTON replaces Woodhead and probably Demps (Vereen's improvement will help).

JONES replaces Branch.

ARRINGTON is re-signed.

WILSON replaces Chung.

LLOYD is restructuring

THOMAS is gone as expected. I expect an OL signing later in the offseason.

There is no action on VOLLMER, TALIB and EDELMAN.
===========

Also, we are seriously talking to pass-rushers; we may have an agreement with Abraham, and we've have talked with Freeney.

Finally, we are discussing trades, although one may or may not materialize.

I'm happy with the progress thus far.

I love that the team had a strong "plan B" in place when Welker's agent grossly overshot the market for him. He allegedly was asking for $24M over 3 yrs and ended up settling for around the same money the Pats offered him. Kudos for Belichick and co. for acting decisively and landing a strong replacement. Very easily could have been screwed if we had waited on Welker's agent making a more reasonable demand. Sucks for Welker but that is the business of the NFL.

Jones could be a guy on the upswing....time will tell. Adds depth if nothing else. Would prefer a healthy Edelmann but perhaps he's still in play as well.

Don't know how much Wilson has left in the tank but I'm fine with him adding depth behind McCourty and Gregory. Plus we've got our own Wilson who should continue to improve. Safety looks fine.

Washington doesn't excite me but he's good camp competition. I'd like to see him get beat out in camp though.

Hoping the Abraham rumors are accurate. I've always respected his game. He could be an excellent situational pass rusher for us.

Shoring up the OLine and CB units should be our next priorities. Hope we resign Vollmer and Talib.

As always, we've been one of the more active teams which is always fun to watch unfold. As always, its frustrating to hear the mediots illogical gripes. Its hard to imagine a guy like Felger spending so much of his career around the NFL and yet understand so little. It seems juvenile to attack his intelligence but he brings that on himself....Oh well.

Keep up the good work Belichick!

Washington should be a major upgrade as a kick returner. Why would you think that he might no make the team? If we replace anyone at this point, it would be Demps and/or Boldin.

Like the washington signing
like the wilson signing
Amendola was a must when welker left

Tomorrow should be:
Abraham signs
#s on Sanders sheet
more news on talib closing in on contract

Tomorrow we will also know more about the Lloyd situation.

Wilson was not on the top of my S list, though if they had signed him it would have been OK, but I'd rather Kerry Rhodes if we are going to sign a former Cardinal S.

Speaking of Darkhorse safety prospects we already have 2 still on the roster Josh Barrett and Will Allen - Barrett's injury history is well known, but they must have seen "something" that they liked to IR him again and keep him on the roster. The same goes for Will Allen. Even more intriguing IMHO. I wasn't surprised that he didn't make the final cut, but I was surprised that they chose to keep him on the roster instead of simply releasing him. They could have saved close to a Million in cap space. Why? I ask myself, why?

Just remember folks - 2 days down and over 150 more to go. Remember last season. A lot of veteran signings which led to a lot of Veteran cuts. Signing these guys in March doesn't necessarily mean they'll be here in September. They still have to make the team.

WIll Allen is not on the roster. UFA.

I am more than pleased, this team has gotten faster and may help our scoring deficits in the red zone during the "tournament"..

Really like the addition of Wilson and Abraham, but provide veteran leadership to the D.. imo that has been lacking in the past.

I should have kept reading before I used the "D" word to describe Felger.

How can any Pats fan not be happy? We've been blessed.

I don't really care why Welker is gone. It's a disappointment no matter what the reason. Same as it was for some of the others the Pats let slip away in the past. I suppose it's more frustrating this time because it looks like Welker didn't want to leave.

I'm not that sure I want Talib back because I think the only way he comes back is if we overpay him, and I don't like the risk of doing that.

Speaking of injured players, I keep wondering when the Pats will have a good stretch of luck with injuries. If they could just get a few more games out of a few more players and combine that with a good stretch of FA and drafted players to plug up some holes, they could be deadly good in 2013.

Keep your fingers crossed.

The old strategy is coming together: fill all the holes prior to the draft so there is no pressure to pick a player based on position, but instead pick players that offer a significant upgrade at a position.

So far, so good, but if we do not re-sign Talib and do not re-structure Lloyd,
things fall apart pretty quickly.

Trying to re-sign Talib is like chasing a will-o'-the wisp. He apparently doesn't think much of the figures other cornerbacks are accepting. He
may end up signing a one year contract to prove himself and get oodles
of money next year.

If Talib bolts and Dennard get serious jail time, our cornerbacks are Arrington, Dowling, and Williams. Not so hot.

At wide receiver, Sanders did not sign an offer sheet, Lloyd has been asked
to re-structure, and Edelman has not been re-signed. If these players are
lost, the wide receiving corps is Amendola, Jones, Slater, Aiken, Ebert, and Holmes. No too swift either.

My fears would be allayed, if the Patriots covered their bums by pursuing
some more good free agent cornerbacks and wide receivers.

I think we couldn't ask for a better scenario than Talib signing a one year deal. He'll do everything in his power to have a year w/o drug suspensions, run ins with the law, staying healthy, etc. When a player has had the issues he's had in the past, nothing will keep his behavior in check and attitude in line more than having to play for a new deal.

Same thing with Vollmer to a lesser extent since injuries have been his only problem.

1 year it is..

Adam Schefter ‏@AdamSchefter

Free-agent CB Aqib Talib reached agreement with the Patriots on a one-year deal.

Yup. Talib will be a great asset this year if he stays healthy. And next year there will be little chance of signing him.

Bumping so we have a generic signing thread. No action lately, I take it. Seems like a good period to wait for good deals, not that BB's putting a hurting on the coin purse so far (I love good value).

Hasn't over committed on years or guarantees either. With all the prospects and lack of money around, we could have the equivalent of a draft for younger players and vet patches so we don't need much more. We can sure offset 4,5,6 round type picks. Hell, we often outpick our low round with 7ths and UDFA. Obviousy, if the draft is deep but even, we can trade own. Probably have enough under 4 year players anyway.

Bumping due to the Lloyd release. I think he will be resigned at some point though.....

So where do we stand thus far?

*Gonezo*

Welker
Chung
Lloyd (as of now)

*Up & Comers*
Washington
Wilson
Jones
Amendola
Arrington
Talib
Abraham (maybe)
Sanders (maybe)

*On the Fencers*

Vollmer
Edelman

Who have I missed, guys??

Washington can replace either Woodhead or Demps.

BB can't be pleased with Demps. He likes guys that concentrate of football and what's needed in terms of workouts and weight gain are not the same things between pro football and track. Demps is going to get cut, dealt, or retire with a settlement.

I like Boldin, and I think BB does. They have no other back that does what he does, so why spend more money on a replacement for a guy that's going to get 53 carries and 9 passes on the year?

We signed Koutouvides.
We tendered Hooman.
Thomas is gone.
