Speculation: Patriots set to make big trades

If true, my guess would be Sanders here and Mallet to Clev.

They can, but then Pittsburgh could match. This would be a way of sweetening the deal for the Steelers to keep them from matching the contract.

Of course, with their cap status, that would probably be an empty threat anyway.

If I remember correctly either Welker signed or was going to sign an offer sheet with the Pats. The Pats threw in a 7th round pick so they didn't have to sign Welker to the offer sheet, instead they drew up a new contract. That was the reason/logic behind the extra pick.

The Steelers are so close to the cap, all the Pats have to do is pay him like 3 million next year and it would be impossible for the Steelers to match it.

Fitz to the Pats is *all over* twitter right now...

I took the bait.

My response was initially "what the hell - cite sources!!!"

Then I was like, ah, calm down a little there. Maybe too much coffee.

from who? I follow all the main guys...nothing has been said.

This guy on twitter Incarcerated Bob (who is a douche bag btw) has been saying it. He's really unreliable and probably has no idea at all, but people listen to him for some reaosn.

Just wasted about 3 minutes of my life on internet speculation...

Arizona cannot trade Fitzgerald, their cap hit would be untenable and the Jets would trade Revis to us like we would trade Brady to them - ain't happening.

Agreed about Revis. He'd never get traded here just out of principle.

Fitz is a different story. I think they know they're gonna suck next year so theoretically they'd prefer to absorb all the cap hits from their bad contracts right now. Fitz will be on his last legs (or probably dead) by the time AZ successfully rebuilds.

I wouldn't trade for him though because the only way AZ would trade him is multiple first round picks. Arizona fans worship Fitz and the Cards' front office is very conscious of being able to justify roster moves to their fans, almost to a fault (when you worry about only making moves that can be justified to a huge group of morons, you end up making stupid moves). Point being, the package they'd ask for would basically NE to mortgage the next 5 years.

Let's trade Mallett to the Browns for WR Josh Gordon

If we offered the Jets the incarcerated bob package (this years 1st next years 2nd, + another conditional pick) and it was the best offer on the table they'd be stupid not to take it.

And we'd be stupid to make it

I'm not going to speculate at all. Either the rumors are BS or we have the real potential to be underwhelmed by these/this big trade(s).
