I dont see how anyone with half a brain can stand posting here with such crybabies. If the FO dosent go out and sign every best statistical player they can find they are wrong.

Of course anytime someone tries to defend any signing by the FO they are a kool aid drinking BB apologist?

I guarantee the biggest whiners on this forum are the same people who will most likely amount to nothing in life. They are just projecting their own failures and insecurities here.

Indeed. But the majority of logical fits for the Patriots are already off the board for various reason.

Just off the top of my head:

• Chris Gamble, retired
• Sean Smith, signed with the Chiefs
• Keenan Lewis, signed with the Saints
• Sam Shields, tendered by the Packers (2nd round)
• Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, signed with the Broncos

Those corners all possess legit #1 CB ability. That basically leaves the aforementioned Talib, Nnamdi Asomugha, and Brent Grimes. All three of them carry significant risks in their own right. Talib has injury and character concerns. Asomugha has age, desire and declining skills issues. While Grimes also has injury concerns. Do you think it's wise to lock up either of those players in the $4-6M range after just giving $4M to Arrington. That's seems like a awful lot tied up for players with obvious risks, in my opinion.

The Patriots could always go after rapidly aging and declining bargain basement JAGs like DeAngelo Hall, Sheldon Brown, Terrence Newman, Quentin Jammer, etc. Though they may end up having too anyway, if Talib doesn't come around.

You make fair points here. I just don't think they would sign Arrington to an above market contract out of desperation given what's still out there. Or, put another way, I think they'd have some sense of their likelihood of retaining Talib well in advance, and thus would have been more active on the front end of FA in acquiring a replacement if they thought him signing elsewhere was a substantial risk.

We'll see how it all shakes out. You could be right when all is said and done (though I hope you're not, no offense ;)).

You're the first "fan" I've referred to as Jets fan. It's pathetic reading your posts in every thread. You're the definition of a misanthrope when it comes to anything Pats related.

It might be your first but it's a typical strategy employee by people that refuse to be critical of the front office. I don't "hate" everything associated withe patriots so how am I a misanthrope. I love the team spend thousands on tickets each year. But it ticks me off when holes are left and lesser talented players get overpaid. We're not in a position to make many mistakes the window for Tom is closing.

I'm glad he was retained, hopefully it is a team friendly structure to the contract. If he left, that leaves another hole in this secondary (slot CB) so at least we got that taken care of. And he's a ST contributor. Now we can address our other needs. Outside corner (Talib hopefully and a draft pick for depth/competition), safety (Wilson/Pollard/Rhodes/etc., draft pick). Not sure why people wanted to see Arrington gone so badly and add another need. If you're unhappy with the salary average, fair enough, but let's wait and see it might be way cheaper like Amendola's turned out to be.

I hope that in case of injury to one of the top 2 CB's, they just move the #4 guy to #2 and keep Arrington in the slot. Instead of creating the domino effect we saw against Bmore and San Fran last year. You can't tell me that the results would have been worse than what they were had you just move Cole to defend Jacoby Jones and whoever SF's #2 wideout is, with Arrington guarding the slot where he excels. Other than those 2 games, the defense was GREAT with Talib.

You realize anytime someone tries going against the FO they're called whiners and idiots. On top of that you're now saying we will amount to nothing in life. No one is saying sign the best player at every position.

I guess in your world it's a grave insult to be called a Bb apologist, but saying someone will amount to nothing in life because of their football opinions makes you not an A hole.

8.5 gauranteed makes it a bit more reasonable. I like the move dont love it still need to address CB1

First. I wasn't addressing you but since you seem to now admit I was, you must also be admitting that you are a major whiner.

Good.. First step - Admitting there is a problem.

Second step - Getting help. Fixing it. Just like the pats do. Fix issues.

If many people are calling you a whinBer maybe its not them. Maybe its you. Its a football team. I am sure Bob K told them to try to win it all. BB is doing what he thinks is best. You dont know anything. He knows everything. OK?

And, how about this. Trying a mature approach for onece in your life.

There is nothing wrong with stating - "Hey KA is back...I diddnt think he would get that much...or I hoped we could get him for less"

Instead, you and many others sound like a baby who get their lollypop taken away. Its embarrassing.

The FO ***** up....just like all the other FOs in the league. If a FO never missed they would probably win the SB every year. Nothing wrong with disapproval of what they do if its done with facts in a way that isnt obnoxious.

Show me where I called anyone anything. I said posters in general here who constantly whine. If you are one of them sorry....

You have called people BB apologists - directly.

Your argument will have validity if:

A.) The Patriots don't bring back/replace Talib
B.) Dennard is, shockingly, spending the entire season at the ironbar hotel
C.) Dennard goes in the tank on year 2
D.) No depth CB is brought in due to cap issues.

Time will tell. Frankly, getting two more outside CBs, moving Dennard into the slot and having Arrington as an overpriced CB4 seems a lot better to me than what's been done in recent years.

Just to add onto to this, we have no idea how well Denard would transition to the slot. If that's what they do, I'd want the CB4 to be a proven slot CB incase Denard doesn't do well as the slot corner.

I'd also argue the slot corner is just as important as outside corners right now. Look at all the top QBs/teams in the NFL. Peyton, Brady, Rodgers, Brees, Eli, and Flacco all use their slot receiver just as much as/more than each outside receiver. The logic that slot corners should automatically be paid less than outside corners is outdated.

Spare me the pseudo psychiatrist BS, ill post how I want you can feel free to ignore me. Ill undoubtedly be ignoring you because you seem to provide poor psycho analysis and 0 football analysis.

I like Arrington, but 8.5 guaranteed and 4/16 seems a little rich to me. He's a good slot corner and an OK outside corner. But maybe that's what it costs to keep a decent corner these days.

Absolutely. All things considered I hope they bring back Talib at the right price. Not because I thought he was an all-pro shutdown corner like some around these parts like to act as if he was (he was often times mediocre at best). But, because I think he helped stabilize the CB position with Dennard and McCourty's move to S along with Arrington occupying the star where he belonged.

Though, if the Patriots are in the RFA market the guy I think they should go after is Sam Shields. I may be in the minority here but I believe he's a much better player than all the free agent CBs including Talib, Asomugha, and Grimes. And comes with less baggage than those three. I think he'd be a great fit here in New England and for the price of a 2nd rounder I would poach him over Emmanuel Sanders any day, provided the Packers choose not to match.

You guys are missing the main point of this offseason. BB azz kissers get paid, free thinking idividuals get shown the exit door.

So the subordinate players who listen to their coach get chosen over the players who do what they want and could give a **** what the coach thinks.

I'm sure Belichick is the only coach in the NFL with that train of thought.

That's an insane amount of money to pay Arrington.

I hope those numbers are incorrect ..he is not worth it ....

Well, **** me. Pats FO must see something in him that I can't readily see. All I can see are the sporadic lapses in defensive fundamentals. We'll see if he survives the cut to 53.

What are the other slot corners in the NFL making that play ST?

All those saying he is overpaid I assume know this? I am legitimately curious.

I'm not really comfortable with him on the field on defense, so yeah, 4 years/$16 million is overpaid.
