Re: Report: Adrian Wilson to visit Pats

or sign three CB's! Talib, Cason, and maybe another depth guy!

I'd be extremely happy with A. Wilson, Talib and Cason in our secondary

Re: Report: Adrian Wilson to visit Pats

Andre Carter was a good situational pass rusher (from what I remember). If we could get the same type of production out of Abraham then he would be an asset to this defense. Maybe I'm having a knee jerk reaction lol, but I just feel like this defense is in need of guys who make plays, albeit situational.

Aside from Chandler Jones (and hopefully Armstead) we do not have a single player on the front 4 with average, much less above average, individual pass rusing skills. Thats not really even debatable. The closest would be Cunningham as a DT in sub, and he actually got a lot of pressure this year.

You cannot scheme a pass rush if the players lack skill. If you blitz, you create an opportunity for pass rushers, but if they lack skill (whether its the player the scheme is supposed to free up, or the player who gets someone else freed) the blitz is not going to work. Then you were worse off for trying it because you have no pressure and depleted coverage.

We need more DL who have pass rushing skills in order to get a consistent and ferocious pass rush, and that pass rush will do more for the pass defense than any additions to the secondary could.

Sign every skills inside or outside pass rusher we can get. That will bring the Lombardi back to Foxboro,

To the people complaining about the age of these players -

Who would you rather have at SS over Wilson that is available right now?

Who would you rather have as a situational pass rusher at DE over Abraham that is available right now?

I'm not saying there is nobody else available, I am genuinely curious who you think would be a better pickup?

What do John Abraham and Adrian Wilson have in common?

Neither one can cover.

What else do they have in common?

Neither one has gotten a sack against a good offensive line in years.

That could be the moist ridiculous statement made on this board in years.
You need to sleep, drink, vacation or something because your butthurt over Welker going to Denver is affected your ability to be rational.

If Adrian is exactly as effective as he was last season, then I'd rather have Tavon starting at SS.

It really has effected him

Sign the beast. Can still lay wood anywhere on the field

He is taking Andre Carter's spot.

Interesting comment. I looked at Carter's numbers, and you have a point. He hasn't gotten a sack against a good line in a while, either.

Carter
2012 - TAM/KC/CAR (.5)
2011 - MIA/DAL/PIT/NYJ/KC/WAS
2010 - PHI/PHI (.5)/MIN (.5)/JAX (.5)

Abraham
2012 - KC/SD/CAR/OAK/PHI/ARI/NOR
2011 - CHI/DET/TEN/HOU/JAX/TAM
2010 - PIT/NO/CLE/CIN/BAL/GB/CAR/SEA/NOR

Houston's 2011 line was good, giving Abraham one sack against a good team in 2011, so he's had one sack against a good line since 2010 (NOR had a good line in 2010), not 0.

Wow, that's kind of depressing when I look at it. Two "pass rushers" who have one sack against good lines between them in the past two seasons.

I am not delighted about Wilson. As a Cardinals season ticket holder I have a bit of perspective on this. I've seen him play probably 50 times. There is a reaon the Cardinals cut him. This is a franchise in trouble and very concerned about season ticket renewals. Wilson is a lifetime Cardinal who is about as beloved as a player can be on a team. He is an icon here. When you need to sell tickets, this is not a guy you cut over $2.5 million if he has game left.

He was late to the play a lot last year. Sure, he hit the crap out of guys after they caught the ball, but they shouldn't have caught the ball. Now, the Cards fell apart last year and stopped playing, so maybe he gave up a little. And maybe he's simply the best option for a SS. But I am hardly doing cartwheels.

Yeah, because extranoodles brothers girlfriend said so. lol

Dude posted an airport pic of Abraham before I read about the rumors of him going to Foxboro here.

Ultimately nothing matters until ink is put to paper, but as far as random reports from some redditor this at least has some merit.

I saw the photo and of course it is a possibility he is already signed due in fact that Amendola had an agreement the day before it was announced.

I was just having fun with the brother using his brothers extranoodles account to say his girlfriend broke the story.

Are we sure that's John Abraham? We already determined that some random guy in the airport is both Mike Wallace and Shane Vereen.

Listed at 6-4, 256 pounds, Abraham played in all 16 games last year with 14 starts and recorded 10 sacks and six forced fumbles, plus 33 tackles and six pass break-ups. - See more at: Reports: Patriots set to host two defensive players - Extra Points - Boston.com

Safe to say..i want him. But will he want $$ after that year last year? Wilson has already met with 49ers..so wonder if they will get in bidding war with pats if it comes down to it

Oh and wikipedia pages has abraham as a NE pat...but not true as we know....right?

If they are going after these positions then Freeney and reed make much more sense and there is absolutely no reason they couldn't get them, they have the cash and both are on the market and respect Belichick.

Beyond that the Patriots need to come away from free agency with at least one if not two impact defenders, not just stopgap vets.

Shopping in the bargain bin just like I said they would.

Sad really that they will probably dole out 3-5 million for this guy when you could go add 2.5 more million and get Cliff Avril or Michael Bennett who have upside.

Reed is actually going to end up getting money, perhaps somewhere around $5M. Wilson probably isn't getting more than $2M, and even that much would surprise me. And Abraham was a much more productive player last year compared to Freeney, and is the better overall player in case either were to start.

Well whatever upside Michael Bennett has, the Seahawks are only getting a year of it right now. If the Pats can squeeze one more good season out of a guy like Abraham, then they definitely get the better deal as long as they're paying considerably less.
