Amendola signed - 5 years

Pretty excited to see what Amendola can do here. I think he has the tools to be a threat on the field and help the team out. To be honest I just want this team to be less predictable.
Two healthy TE's, RB's running and being involved in the passing team, with a deep threat who makes the play action even more lethal, along with Amendola on short and intermediate routes is a good thing in my book.

Put me down as a fan of your book.... ;)

Amendola has a tough task of matching Welker's production. But...

I do not understand why people on this board are torching this deal before he puts on a Patriot uniform.

Because it shows how little the board's talking heads actually know ... it shames them.

People here keep on forgetting that Amendola played in a different division. That's not apples to apples. I wonder how long (or durable) WW would be in the NFCW, playing twice against the Seahawks and Niners defenses. That AFCE is a joke compared to the NFCW. For all we know, WW would be in crutches for the rest of his life had he played in the NFCW.

I cant see your point....but I also think back to some huge hits the guy took and just always bounce back up. Both Amendolas injuries; arm and shoulder, were caused by the turf.

with Amendola signed, do you guys think there's still a chance of the Pats getting Cruz?

No. They wont give up a #1 to pay a WR 10mill a year. Not under any circumstances.

they signed Dowling Jr? Nice

Terrible moves made today. A new low for this front office.

Yeah Welker was hit with marshmellows...only Amendola was tackled hard.

Amendola's injury history is mitigated because of 2 teams while Welker's terminator like durability against all teams doesn't really mean anything...hard to argue with that brilliant analysis.

Should have grabbed Anquan Boldin while he was still available, but I guess our front office wanted to take care of the important business first (WW).

Doubt Baltimore would've traded him here. Excited to see what this kid can do. Only one dropped pass and 66 catches last season.

As was Welker's ACL going bust.... ;)

That makes absolutely no sense.
If Amendola has a top 15 ever WR season it was a failure?

You didn't get the poster's point.

If they have to rely on just one WR that much, their plans failed.

They are looking to have an offense with multiple threats (no more D. Branch's at the end of career taking up a spot). Spread it out so no one can double team Gronk and Wes and we fold.

What does that have to do with my post?

And the first problem with the Boldin trade is that the Ravens probably would have forced us to cough up more than a 6th round pick. The second is that BB might be done with trying to build his team around aging receivers who have no experience with Brady.

Eh...Its not great but we have seen this before. The D needs fixing or it wont matter who plays WR.

They paid more for Amendola than they offered to Welker, so this has nothing to do with money for the defense.

Egad, Amendola's receiving yardage total for last season - 666. As always, the devil's in the details...

You mentioned the word 'overspend' ;)

So you would have given up a first round pick for Boldin? That is what it probably would have taken for the Ravens to trade to a team like the Pats or Broncos who are the leading contenders for the Conference.

Not unreasonable to wonder how much McDaniels factored into letting WW go. He gave WWs snaps to AH and JE before they got hurt and Lloyd was brought in likely because of his recommendation.

McDaniels may have been chirping in BBs ear about Amendola > Welker.

Or maybe they just feel a 27 year old WR is more valuable than a 32 year old WR over the next 5 years.

I honestly don't know if this is going to be a good trade off or not. We will know in the long run.

I cerrtainly am not in the camp of the posters who are yelling "good riddance, Welker, thanks for dropping those passes" That is ridiculous.

I keep hearing that Lloyd will be cut, but my female intuition has some doubts about that. We shall see.

Its probably similar to Welker, it depends on who else they can get.
It appears that if Amendola wasn't signed, they probably would have matched Welkers offer. The order of events doesn't really mean the order of decisions.
