Re: Victor Cruz is the only answer

what else would we use our first round on this year? an iffy secondary pick that never works out. Good secondary come from free agency

Re: Victor Cruz is the only answer

gonna cost big dollars and a first round pick. In previous years where they had a multitude of picks, i could have seen it. Not this year.

But can you imagine a young receiver corp made up of cruz, hernandez and gronk as the centrepieces? yikes.

But yeah, a pipe dream i think.

.

Can you imagine a receiving corp made up of Welker, Hernandez, and Gronk?!? Oh wait

My first thought is **** him!

But if his deal is only $12mil, I am sure that we had little chance of him coming back with the team not committed to keeping him!

I hope we resign Edelman and hopefully Amendola! But who the **** knows!

Welker's contract is fully guaranteed.. That could have been the difference. But we'll never know 100%.

I'd like to see how the cap number works out.
It would seem that a faotr could well be that we could sign a younger player to a much larger, longer term contract at the same cap hit for the 1st year or even 2.
Lets say Welkers hits are 5mill and 7mill.
A 5yr 50mill deal with 20 in bonus money and salaries of 1, 3, 7,9,10 would have the same cap hits in the first 2 years. If that is to sign a young stud type receiver entering his prime, it gives a different outlook.

In the end, you have to see where the money is spent to truly judge the decision to not spend it on Welker.

Richard Sherman, Kam Chancellor, Darrelle Revis all say HI.

Re: Victor Cruz is the only answer

LMAO at people saying Danny or Eldeman. Eldeman is a joke compared to welker. He is not the big time potential player we need now that we don't have welker. I will seriously be pissed if we don't get welker. I am willing to give a first round for cruz

Yeah. So, lets say Patriots want Edelman & Amendola as alternating slot-receivers.

You sign Edelman for 1.5m/yr and Amendola for 3.5m/yr.

Total is 5m/yr. (1m/yr less than Welker)

Now, both, Edelman and Amendola has a history being injury prone. (not Welker)

Please do the math...

Re: Blaming BB? WW gets a pass though?

The Patriots Lowballed Wes and hoped that his loyalty would bring him back at any price.

You can't tell me that if your Boss came to you with an insulting under-market contract after you had been loyal to them for years that you wouldn't be a little pissed.

I completely understand Welker's frustration, i understand why he went to Denver, i understand why Denver would want him, So how can i blame Wes at all for this? he would have looked like a fool to take 10 million for 2 years.

If Welker wasn't in the Patriots plans, they had better have a great backup plan. Nobody except for Brady knows the complex patriots offense like Welker does and now you will be forced to bring in an unknown commodity, because of what on the surface appears to be hubris.

Re: Victor Cruz is the only answer

Cruz is the only guy who is NOT the answer.
We don't need to give away a 1st round pick in order to throw big money at a WR.
Welker is not going to be replaced, his role will be eliminated (actually reduced to a situational role) and the scheme will be altered to accenuate different receivers, just as it did when Moss arrived and again when he left, and when Welker arrived and now when he leaves.

So I guess the idea of putting the 2007 band back together with Randy on rhythm is dead?

yes they low balled him by offering him 2 years 16 mil, and 2 years 10 mil this year...

those offers are so insane compared to the 2 year 12 mill deal he just got......../s
apparently the pats added incentives to the deal that could have potentially made it similar to the Denver deal but w/e.

in short welker gave the big FU to the front office..........w/e move on.

Re: Blaming BB? WW gets a pass though?

The patriots weren't playing a money game, get real. Wes Welker is unwanted because he's old, slow, short, and can't catch big passes. Period. He's not worth 6 million, and thank god the Broncos suckers signed him. Welker was a cancer to the patriots offense attracting passes he couldn't catch. This is the first time since the 2007 offseason I've been proud of this organization for making a great decisions despite its popularity.

Don't let the door hit you in the ***** welker.

5 of the last 7 Super Bowl winners did NOT have top defenses.

We have been knocked out several times when we couldn't score 20 points. I agree that much of the reason was often injuries.

Make no mistake; we will have a potent offense this year. Belichick has chosen to move on from an offense revolving around Welker.

The Patriots won superbowls without Wes Welker (does anyone remember 2001-2005?)

Those Teams had great defenses

Since the last SB the playoff losses have been painful.

The offenses (with Wes) in some of those playoff games have sputterd when needed.

The defenses many of those games have given up too many plays.

We need to get back to what was winning superbowls.

We need to get back to having an elite D and that takes an investment in that D.

We already have a lot invested in the middle of the field with great TE.

Exactly this. Everyone on this board read this and then calm down.

Re: Blaming BB? WW gets a pass though?

Tell me how you feel next year when Welker comes in here and catches 10 balls on you in the AFC championship game.

Re: Blaming BB? WW gets a pass though?

10 balls for 72 yards and 1 or 2 big drops aint nothing to be worried about.

Only thing is that he will drop the pass that means something like the last two years

I'm reminded of the day I joined this forum. The Patriots had just cut Lawyer Milloy, and much like now, the (much smaller) community was ripsh1t. Including me. The team ended up doing pretty well that year. Four more Super Bowl appearances has led me to give Belichick the benefit of the doubt, if not some of you. If he thinks that money is best used elsewhere, I believe him.

I've also thought that maybe he wants sturdier guys running some of those routes -- tight ends and larger receivers.

Maybe that is how it will play out. Maybe not. But I know this. I base things on facts. BB has 3 rings. WW has zero.

Sorry. I will trust the guy with 3 rings (who did it without the spectacular WW) over the guy with zero.

And how pray tell are we even going to get into the AFCCG next year? According to many of the crybabies on this forum we have obviously given up on this upcoming year. Gave away WW, haven't signed one player, Wont pay Wallace or apparently Cruz.

Shut the board down!! Its over...The only people who will be happy is a bunch of moms who wont have their children spending so much time on their computers whining about how terrible the Patriots are.

BOO HOO!

Still so pissed...jets fans jumping for joy

I Am sure they are. It sucks. But you cant have probowlers at every position. You have to play chess and you have to gamble.
