Here is your WTH moment for the Pats

Re: Here is your WTH momemt for the Pats

It's an "original round tender." Normally, for an UDFA like Woodhead, that would be "nothing." But since Hoomanawanui was drafted in the fifth round, the Pats would get a fifth-rounder.

I stand corrected...

Re: Here is your WTH momemt for the Pats

Our return team was abysmal once Edelman got hurt. This seems like a solid move to me.

Exactly. I think he can pretty much replace Edelman as a 4th/5th WR on the depth chart as well.

Losing Thomas is a bummer. How much did Colts pay?

Here are the players I want the Patriots to sign.

Ed Reed or Wilson
Cary Williams AND Talib
Jennings or Welker
Kevin Walter

walter is a slot guy, no?

They tendered Hoomanawanui at the 1.323M tender.. No way he is worth that.

Very disappointed in that move by them.

If he makes the team he is worth that, if he doesn't he costs zero.

Re: Here is your WTH momemt for the Pats

You forgot:
D) Costs 1.323 Million against the cap until such a decision is made.

Actually more like 800K because of the top 51 rule.

Re: Here is your WTH momemt for the Pats

The patriots will NOT spend $25M of cap room anytime soon. If they need to find a million, there are lots of ways. A Mankins restructure gets us $3.75M. Besides, given the choice (which will be made in the preseason), I'd rather have Hooman than Fells.

If we really need the cap room, I would suggest cutting Fells.

Of course you are correct, given that they need at least 4 times that for draft picks, players 52 and 53, practice sqaud pay, and inseason reserve fund.

Also, they could rescind the tender if they really needed the 800k

When people look back and wonder where the pats went wrong they're going to point back to them overpaying Hooman by a few hundred k. Sad this team has become the redskins of the AFC.

And theres the reason why the Pats applied that tender.

Can't believe you just said that. There is a reason for this, a 5th round draft pic. We all think bb doesn't know what he is doing or the pats don't. I think given there accomplishments the decade and a half I trust there ideas. Heck we have been to a SB 5 times and AFCCG like 7 times I think. Couple of playmakers on D is the only thing stopping us from a couple SB titles.

I'm just kidding bro. I don't think it's even really possibly to grossly overpay a player 1.3 mill. I like Hooman don't mind him coming back to play TE/FB.

If this is THE WTH moment of the 2013 for the Pats... I think I can live with that.

This isn't crying over spilled milk, it's going off to live in the woods alone... over spilled milk.

He is young can play TE and FB. Strong run blocker it's not awful.

If the Patriots are over paying the Hooman by a few 100,000, isn't that well within the They See Something We Dont error of margin?

To say nothing of the fact that he is a one of the leagues best pass and run blocking TEs and can actually catch the ball (average hands).

Hooman is camp competition for Fells (and whatever free agents are brought in) and insurance against Ballard not being ready. He can be cut AT ANY TIME with zero cost. It costs nothing to have him compete in camp; there are no bonuses for RFA's.

HOWEVER, most likely is that he will sign a lower priced contract before camp begins.

His blocking sucked

Hoomanawanui is not a strong run blocker. He's mediocre at best. And it was proven in the play-offs. Sorry..
