If Revis is forced to play for his $6 million base salary this season in the final year of his four-year, $46 million contract, he just might be inclined to stick it to the Jets by signing with New England — providing, of course, that Robert Kraft’s money is right.

Belichick has not had an elite corner since Ty Law, who has been Revis’ mentor. They are both from Aliquippa, Pa. Law also wore No. 24 and he and Revis were briefly teammates with the Jets in 2008. Belichick, one of the best defensive coaches of this generation, has been unable to fix New England’s pass defense the last few years. In 2009, the Patriots were ranked a respectable 12th in passing yards allowed. In the last three seasons, they have been 30th, 31st and 29th. That would not happen with Revis.

NY Jets don't want to see Darrelle Revis play out contract, then join rivals Bill Belichick, Tom Brady and Patriots - NY Daily News

Gary Meyers that's all that needs to be said. Couldn't you just remove the Pats name and put in team X and the same argument would apply? The only thing I got out of it was Pats manage the cap better than the Jets.

One day wouldn't be worth it unless it was SB Sunday

Don't see it unless he does a complete 180 on his philosophy of always needing to be the highest paid corner in the game.

Not if Revis continues to demand the sorts of contracts he's after. If he takes a reasonable contract then sure.

The answer is "yes". If Revis were a free agent this year, I could see us signing him to a one year ten million dollar contract (or longer).

Belichick has his rules and general principles, but occasionally a really top player comes available and he will pay big money (e.g. Moss).

Revis would have the respect of the team, as Talib did.

If Rex want this not to happen, he needs to trade Revis this year. He won't be able to afford to franchise him next year, with the likelihood of him sitting out all offseason.

Like most other players of his caliber it will only happen when he is done making the big money, the Patriots aren't going to pay him anywhere near what he wants right now. When he's on his last contract it is a possibility. Belichick loves former first rounders when they are on the back stretch.

It would be intriguing to have a defensive player like Revis on the roster who'll be twenty-eight by next season. However, my concern isn't with his asking price, it's with his long-term health. Will he be the same player after an ACL tear? If he would agree to a one or two-year contract, I would roll the dice on him. Actually, I think he'll be motivated to reclaim his status as one of the best corner backs in the league. Especially, since Nnamdi Asomugha had a down year this season.

WHAT IF...to REALLY stick it to the Jets....Revis signs with New England AND takes a cap friendly contract(even though Revis will never ever take less money).

This **** just needs to stop.

My dream is seeing a huge Pats defense again :rocker:

I'll pass. I would much rather have a younger CB than Revis. Revis is good, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather have someone else.

based on the pats and drafting CBs..last thing i want is another young CB..lets get someone experience please

No, never.

Mevis will never take anything less than the absolute top dollar, which will not be offered by us.

If he were willing to compromise for the chance to...whatever, no point even finishing the rest of that line. It's all about the $$$s for Mevis, and that won't happen here.

Revis isn't coming here unless a) jets trade him to the pats or b) Revis signs as an UFA in 2014. Scenario A won't happen. Scenario B won't happen because Revis will sign a long term contract extension with whatever team he gets traded to and/or will get the franchise tag.

Is it possible that he played the "Me first" card thinking he could get off that horrible team by demanding the world?

We have officially gone around the speculative bend with this one The real season needs to start NOW!

What's next the Pats manage a Colin Kaepernick for Tom Brady plus the KC second swap with the Niners. Or how about trading for Tyrell Suggs for a 3rd round pick and Rob Ninkovich. And of course there's always the Matthew Slater for Larry Fitzgerald thread that's only a moment away from happening.

C'mon guys. I know its the off season, but really.......?????

No team will give up a first and third round pick to New York for Revis before knowing whether he's indeed 100% healthy from an ACL tear.

Although the Jets gave up the right to franchise Revis after the season, they do hold leverage. Revis is scheduled to play for $6 million this year. He has to be afraid of playing for below market money, getting hurt again this season.

The source said he believes Revis will make a full recovery from his ACL injury because, "ACLs aren't what they used to be, it's not a big deal anymore," but if the Jets were to trade Revis before he gets back on the field "they will get 75 cents on the dollar. If he was not hurt, I would say you would be looking at getting two No. 1s. Now it's more like a No. 1 and a No. 3. And I'd want a high No. 1."

NY Jets-Darrelle Revis clash could get very messy but Woody Johnson needs to remember who usually wins when an NFL superstar is traded - NY Daily News
