Richard Seymour.... !!

Seymour is a proven commodity in this league and has been for a long time. Even at 34, he could still come in on a limited basis as part of a rotation and perform at a high level. I wouldn't want to pay him top dollar and rely on him being my #1 Dlineman that is capable of going for a majority of snaps, but as someone who could come in on a rotation along the defensive line he would excel at... He has been in big games in Janaury and February, hes been performing at a high level his entire career, so its not at all far fetched to think he could provide some solid depth to our defensive line and help free up some of the linebackers and defensive ends to generate more pressure and control the line of scrimmage more.

I wasn't aware of some of his quotes regarding the Patriots, its unfortunate that it ended so poorly between the two because he would definitely be a nice addition if he came reasonably priced.

Your thoughts about Seymour the player have merit. The defense has not been able to fill the void left behind by him since the trade, although I doubt he could provide the same level of play right now, he'd still be a nice addition if it were a reasonable cost.

Now we can get into Seymour the person--who the team supposedly cannot stand after being very patient with, and did not feel that he was representing his best efforts or their specific organization in the greatest light. There seems to be mutual bad blood between the 2 sides, so I wouldn't even think twice about him coming back here myself.

Like you said, it's a shame because he was an excellent player at times, one of the problems was that he may have played half-assed when he felt like it, was injured at times, had a huge ego, and just wasn't worth the contract that he was being paid--let alone the one he was looking for in the next year. Their past experiences with Seymour and his contract situations probably turned them off even more.

I did not like the Seymour trade initially. Now I see that it was a decent move considering the fact that he was looking for huge money, underperforming in some areas possibly during practice etc, and the team just had too good of value in trade compensation. It be an awesome trade had they been able to replace his production on enough of a level that we wouldn't have missed him for so long. Unfortunately that didn't happen to this point.

If he comes and play like he played when we traded him... ok, What are we waiting for?. But I think he's too old and he never will be the same one. If I'd choose he wouldn't be on my team.

Bryant is the smart play if the Patriots go after any Raiders player.

Maybe I missed something, but was there any indication of Seymour looking for Brady money?

Seymour is the only player to get BB over a barrel not once but twice on a contract. There is bad blood, and Seymour isn't signing for a discount anywhere.

Forget him.

You'd use our first and second (to move up) to get to the mid-teens and maybe get a solid DE? And in the meantime, you don't want to sign a free agent who might be an upgrade to one of our defensive linemen.

Perhaps Seymour or another old vet can add more in January than ONE of Deaderick, Cunningham, Francis, Bequette, Forston, Love, Armstead or Vega. We not need to have Wilfork, Ninkovich and the kids. We can use another veteran.

Please name one defensive player acquired by any team at age 34 who was still active in January and made a meaningful contribution.

Take a careful look at what Junior Seau did after age 33 - one season where he played in all 16 games with 50% the productivity of his prime years. It still saddns me to think about him. Junior Seau NFL Football Statistics - Pro-Football-Reference.com

Forget these old guys. The league is too fast and the season too long to mess around acquiring guys past their prime.

Also, I said nothing about giving up the #1 and #2 - all I said was move up. It could be variety of picks this year or future years. My position has been very consistent on the 2013 draft that the Pats use a #1 and a #2 on a DB and a pass rusher. it could be the current selections or somebody else's in some combination that results from Trader Bill's usual draft day maneuvering.

I think the biggest need on this team is inside pass rush. With Vince, Niko and Jones having a little more help.

Melton is the best person out there. I pray they go after him. He is a beast.

All good points here. Bryant hasn't had a really long track record, Seymour is old and doesn't play hard every down.

I would only get Seymour if the money was really right for the Pats.

This is what it all comes down to...

I don't know. I know its a long shot, for MANY reasons, including whether he is over the hill even if the relationship was excellent.
But I think players, coaches and NFL personell are much, much thicker skinned than fans trying to guess how offended they are by things.
If BB thinks it makes us a better team to get Seymour back, he will try to do it. He will not let bad feelings over a previous negotiation affect that.
Seymour on the other hand, after experiencing winning, then being stuck in the Black Hole of Despair, would seem to want to be interested in playing for a winner. That narrows it down to maybe 10 teams. Would Seymour take less money to play on a winner, now? Who knows?
Its unlikely, but certainly not no chance.
