Absolutely ... he was also my favorite training camp coach
... well worth the visit when they were at Bryant - he put on a show at times.

Screw him and the horse he rode in on - the way he left us high and dry in New Orleans cannot be forgiven.

Perhaps if he kept his mind on football during football season maybe he activates Troy Brown in that SB.

There was plenty of time to gripe about who does the cooking and grocery shopping AFTER the season.

To not even return on the team bus & plane with his coaches & players, following that loss was classless and selfish.

There is no question he brought bledsoe & that young group of players and the franchise with new owner bob Kraft exactly what was needed to turn things around. In '93 & '94 he was great, '95 was even better as they actually got to the playoffs. But it all blew up in '96, just as they as he took them all the way to New Orleans and allowed the wheels to fall off prior to the season ending and really killed us DURING superbowl week. That game was pretty much lost, before we took the field that day, thanks to parcells immaturity that week.

I wont forgive the way he went out.

I'm with sand on this one. Parcells was all about himself and never the people he worked for. I give him credit, he had a great system and some skills.

He would walk into a team like the Pats, who had been very bad for a couple of years, so they would have a good core or young talent and low expectations, so even a bad first year like 5-11 would look like an improvement, and anything better would look like a miracle. That's what he did with the Pats, Jets, and Miami.

I'm not saying he was a bad coach. Far from it. However his best skill was surrounding himself with good smart assistants and leaving them alone. After his Giants run for the most part Parcells was there for media relations, being the team prick, and the face of the franchise.

Also I credit Parcells for understanding that his style wasn't built for the long haul. He was a builder, not a maintainer. He understood how difficult it was to be a superbowl contender long term. So whenever he had some success, how would try an maximize it for his own personal gain.

Few people remember that after his first superbowl win, he tried very hard to leave the Giants, and after the 2nd one he finally did get his wish. He lasted 4 years with the Pats, 3 years with the Jets, just a couple with the Cowboys. Lets not forget that Parcells was NEVER good a "shopping for the groceries".

A lot of coaches like Parcells can build a down trodden franchise. But its a true HOF coach who can do what BB's done over the dozen years. No one's been able to do it as well during the salary cap era.

When I think of a HOF coach I look at guys like BB, Walsh and Brown Guys who did it with one team over a long period of time. When compare those guys with Parcells, I find him wanting. He was good at one thing, building bad teams into good ones....but that's it. A good coach, not a HOFer.

BTW- I pray to god that his lackies in the Boston media will stop nominating him for the Pats HOF. There are so many more deserving players who deserve that honor.

Odd reaction to Parcells' selection to the HOF. You'd think it would be a great feeling to know that a Patriots head coach was chosen. Is it possible that he asks Bill Belichick to present him?

The Big Tuna is the second HC of the NEP to get into the HOF, but he is really going in as the head coach of the NYG. Raymond Berry is in the HOF as a Colts player Hall of Famers » RAYMOND BERRY, and my feeling is that he did a great job as Patriots head coach in a team-first low-key way taking the '85 team to the Super Bowl. Berry didn' t have a HOF worthy coaching career

Nevertheless, Parcells' stop in New England and the '96 Super Bowl is a big part of his story. His betrayal of the Patriots during SB week is but a portion of his body of work. I felt at the time that he was a traitor, but I did not disagree with his wanting to have a bigger say in personnel. A very complex situation.

We have to remember all that he did for Belichick and his overall coaching tree. It was the Tuna who brought Belichick to New England as his DC. Then he helped Belichick get his first HC gig in Cleveland with Art Modell, and then rescued him from that mess and put the NYJ drama in motion by leaving and appointing him the "HC of the NYJ."

Parcells kept Dante Scarnecchia in '93 as a Special Assistant who he inherited. If he'd axed Dante, who knows the arc of the 1990s and 2000s Patriots. Scarnecchia is as responsible for the Patriots excellence as anyone in the organization.

There's a richness to this that I think goes beyond his tuning out in '96.

To be bitter about that 17 years later seems like wasted energy. I'll raise one to the Big Tuna, and I'll definitely tune in for his induction speech.

While the way he went out here does leave a bad taste, he did bring the Patriots franchise into respectability and popularity at a time when it was about to leave town in the middle of the night, so I will grudgingly congratulate him. By the way, I am pretty sure Troy Brown was injured for the Superbowl - Parcels did not bench him. Hernia or abdominal strain as I recall.

Well, I don't condone bestiality, though whatever a man and a consenting billy goat wanna do inside their own four walls is none of my business, but...

... eff the Tuna.

I don't have it in me to congratulate Parcells, considering how he left. **** him. Historically, I hope everyone remembers that he never accomplished anything without Belichick at his side doing the real work.
