Rob Ryan's near-hiring with the Rams - NFL Nation Blog - ESPN

ESPN's Chris Mortensen says the Rams changed their mind on Ryan. The Rams said they decided against hiring Ryan after "extensive" discussions about defensive philosophy.

This is a good non-hire by the Rams if Ryan were indeed unable to adjust. The Rams did not need a schematic overhaul on defense. They needed someone to coach the defense.

Looks like he had a job for only FIVE MINUTES

Haha oh Rob. Wanna coach our LB again Rob?

This is probably better for him. He can go coach a 3-4 in NO or PHI.

I wonder why Rex won't hire him?

Icy, more like Dude Lebowski than the Cap'n.

Per Schefter, Ryan and the Rams indeed reached an agreement on January 24. Ryan began attending team meetings, but Rams officials “felt uncomfortable” about Ryan’s fondness for a 3-4 defense. The Rams have been a 4-3 team.

Per Schefter, conflict over whether St. Louis would change schemes led the sides to ultimately “cancel the marriage” with Ryan.

I feel dirty that I am enjoying the demise of either Ryan twin... but I am.

Because Wrecks stands a good shot at being fired after this coming season, which would put both Ryans in the market for DC jobs at the same time.

Im glad the Rams are looking for a good DC, and not selling tickets, like Dallas. Shows the GM has his head on strait.

I can't help but wonder if there was ever really an agreement in place in the first place, and think that perhaps the Rams allegedly changing their mind is espn's way of not having to say that their original story was incorrect.

Seems a more likely scenario is the meeting was good, both sides thought it would work out, but then the Rams did a bit more thinking and decided not to.

I would doubt they'd promise the job and then pull it
