Report: Patriots very interested in Revis

Sell high? He is coming off a ACL injury...do these fans not pay any attention?

He is also in the last year of his contract with a no franchise tag clause in his contract. That means the team trading for him will have to get a deal done with him to get the trade or be an one year rental. That means that Revis' trade value will be low unless there are many teams willing to make him the highest paid CB in the league before they know if he is fully recovered.

bertrand on felger and mazz:

Reports are the pats are interested in revis...but the jets will not trade him to the pats :D

Are there actually people out there that believe he could be here?

He will end up in GB or Denver...you heard it here first

Ha, they renamed the article. "Patriots pursuing Revis, but trade seen as highly unlikely"

Well it's not like the Jets have a chance to compete next year. They may be planning to tank for the #1 pick. Not that any team actually plans to do that (other than the Colts) but they may realize they need to blow-it-up. If that's the case, from a competitive stand point maybe it wouldn't really matter. Just give him to the highest bidder.

I still highly doubt it though.

See.

I understand that Revis can be selfish sometimes, I understand that he has his issues but if we could get him here, the Patriots would be stupid to not get him. 14 mil a year, maybe a little high but we have to realize that Brady doesn't have much longer. He can't continue to always be the "reason" the Patriots win and why they lose. We need a defense to compliment him on the field.

With Revis and whoever else on the other side, that immediately enhances this secondary. With the front 7 being as good as they are, this piece would really help in the backfield. The Patriots need to understand that the defense has been the weak link all of these years, get this guy if we can. Get Brady that next Superbowl.

BB knows this is true.

Just image...

February 2014 Darelle Revis holds up the Lombardi trophy in Rat Stadium...

As a member of the Pats....

Two words....

Awe....some!!!!!!!

:rocker:

i wonder if the Pats would ever get to the point of going "all-in" for a season realizing that Brady's window is closing. i would consider almost anything to get brady that elusive fourth ring, or maybe just hope that our best weapons can stay healthy for the postseason.

maybe revis can be the 2010s version of deion sanders and bring a championship to whatever team signs him.

So some un-named GM allegedly drops the Pats name in a list of teams supposedly interested. Color me unimpressed.

I am sure Belichick called the unnamed GM (Lombardi perhaps?) and said:

"Hi Mike? It's Bill. Bill Belichick. Remember me? What? You've been on the job for three days and you want me to call you Mr. Lombardi? Not gonna happen.

So look, MIKE, let's drive the cost of Revis through the roof. Put out a statement to the guy at the Plain Dealer that you're interested in Revis, I'm interested in Revis, everybody's interested in Revis.

Rex and Thurston Howell, III there in the the swamp will blow a gasket. Revis will call his agent, up his price and threaten to sit out 2013. Those numbnuts will have a media firestorm to deal with and by the time they're done looking for their heads up each other's asses - if Sanchez gets out of the way - we'll have signed all the good free agents. They'll be lucky to have 53 guys in camp.

What's that? Welker? Sure. Sign him. I need everyone up here to go berserk while I figure out how to get Brady to restructure his deal. The guy has a moat, for pete's sake!"

That's better but it's still not accurate. I don't have inside information but I'm pretty sure the Pats FO haven't called the Jets, and aren't even having internal discussions about making an offer.

This would be great: A GM like Lombardi in Cleveland pulls off a trade for Revis, and then immediately flips him to the Patriots for draft picks. If he comes out ahead, why wouldn't he do that?

Patriots + Revis = Lombardi trophy! Oh gawd, I want it so badly

Brady ain't getting any younger, d%#*!@t. Just once I would like to see a bold roster move that makes you go "WOW!"

1. Cleveland trades #6 to St. Louis for #16 and #22

2. Cleveland trades #16 to NYJ for Revis

3. Cleveland trades Revis to NE for Ryan Mallett

:D

Just kidding.

Seriously, if I were BB and I wanted to re-sign Aqib Talib for reasonable money before he hit FA, I'd float rumors about being very interested in trading for Revis, too.

like I said before, .000001% chance he comes here.

However, He is the type of player to build a defense around. We certainly don't need him to win a lombardi but a core defense of Revis, Mayo/Hightower, and Jones/Wilfork would be plausable. On Offense Gronk and Hernandez are locked up long term and we have the best offensive line coach in football capable of turning guys like Wendell into probowl level players. We have Brady for 2 more years in his prime and after him the money tied up the QB position should plumet with his successor. I'd trust BB to build enough depth players around the core talent to compete for years.

If that's the case, from a competitive stand point maybe it wouldn't really matter. Just give him to the highest bidder.

It would matter..we are the pats..they are the jets...it's not happening

Also consider that if he came here, he wouldn't get away with DPI, Illegal Contact and Holding on every snap.

It's fun to entertain the thought...

I realize our "window" has been open since 2001, and that we still have a couple of years left before the Brady Exit. But honestly, let's stop screwing around and GO FOR IT. I know it's not about just signing as many big names as possible, but give Revis what he wants and some of our bigger money guys (not Brady, although he should be also) should be willing to restructure to finally get their elusive FIRST Super Bowl. Honestly, whatever it takes, get this guy in the fold.
