Dwayne Bowe: Sign the Beast

I'm on board for improving the WR position, but I agree it'll likely need to be done via the draft, or some type of low/mid level FA signing.

That said, it's the defense that needs to continue improvement...by far.

In 3 of the last 4 playoff losses, we've given up 33, 28, and 28...that is not going to get anything done, and that is an embarrassment in my opinion.

This offense is already leagues better than the offense of old that won the SB's, but the defense is clearly the team's biggest weakness.

Reality is you didn't answer the question you turned it around on me that I'm scapegoating someone I asked you why does our offense stall in the playoffs. So simply Brady is the reason not the entire offensive scheme and how it is easy to shut down in the playoffs?

Lloyds product was ok just like I said it was, it didn't help this team in the playoffs though that is for sure and you still think giving Welker $10 million doesn't preclude us from signing some real receiving talent. That's fine.

Reality is that I've answered that question any number of times on this site, and it's never going to come down to "Wes Welker!". Reality is that Lloyd's numbers were fine and he was a big help to the team. Reality is that Brady is more to blame for the loss than either Welker or Lloyd. Reality is that Ridley being knocked unconscious is more to blame for the loss than either Welker or Lloyd. Reality is that the playcalling was more to blame for the loss than either Welker or Lloyd.

In your rush to blame, you're scapegoating the wrong people, and it's clouding your posting. The team obviously can sign Welker and another WR. That's not debatable. The money's there. The issues, as usual, are budget allocation and cap management.

Bowe sucks, thank god people are wise enough to realize that. I guarantee there is 0 chance he is on this team next year. He's a poor mans version of TO.

Yeah, I think Bedard did a pretty good job highlighting Branch's play on Sunday in his column and why he needs to go into a forced retirement. The Pats need a third WR who can do something. I think Edelman can be that guy, but he needs to stay healthy.

Yup Edelman would be a great #3 WR if he were healthy. That's the key. He has shown a lot of potential when he's in the game. Forget about Bowe. Here's my plan. Trade for Fitzgerald. Franchise Welker then trade him for an extra pick. Here's our NE offense 2013

WR Larry Fitzgerald
WR Brandon LLoyd
WR Julian Edelman
TE Rob Gronkowski
TE Aaron Hernandez

How do you STOP IT???

You would probably need to cut Gronkowski and Hernandez to trade for Fitzgerald and the cap acceleration it would take.

Fitz, Lloyd, Hooman, Lol

no way you keep fitz, lloyd, gronk and ahern on the same team...unless you don't want to field a D

The "trade for Larry Fitzgerald" stuff always gets tossed around on this board in the off-season.

Do people really see this as a realistic option?

We have 20m in cap space. The money that would have been used to pay Welker would be used to pay Fitzgerald instead. I don't see the need to cut our all-pro tight ends in the scenario I proposed.

Fitzgerald AND his father are both hating St. Louis. He wants out and is coming off one of his worst seasons yet. I think he would love to have a chance to play with Brady and his numbers will definitely rebound in New England.

"(Former Cowboys great) Michael Irvin is at my house right now," Fitzgerald said from his summer home in Minnesota. "And I've had long conversations with (former 49ers great) Jerry Rice. I see the rings these guys have, and what they mean.

"When it's all said and done, I don't want people to say, 'Yeah, he was a talented guy who put up numbers, but he was never able to win the ultimate prize.' That's where my mind-set is at."

Fitzgerald would be playing with a REAL title contender and REAL QB here in New england. He could potentially take this offense over the top and to another Lombardi.

they do...but it's only a distant dream..like winning 100 mill in the lotto

Doubt we'll spend much on a FA WR. I say trade our 1st rd pic for a 2nd and 3rd rd pick and draft WR & SS only. (Based on best available). One of them should pan out. Use the rest of the CAP on Vollmer, Talib and Edelman.
I think we should let Wes go. If we can franchise and trade him for a pick or coverage LB then good.

We said the same thing this year, and almost every team in the NFL with a bird on its helmet did just that, one of them twice.

There's no way that we could entertain the thought of someone like L.Fitz on this team. Yeah, we're approx. 20 million under but we have a plethora of our own players to try and re-sign, not to mention a major weakness on defense still.

It's hard to field a quality team with a player who costs that much, especially if he isn't your QB, and the ARZ Cards and DET Lions are finding that out.

Not many, no.

I don't even see a realistic option for any higher priced WR not named Welker, and the front office may not even see Welker himself as a realistic option to stay on his own team after producing 100+ catches in 5 of 6 yrs.

They are going to have to do it through the draft, or some type of outside the box thinking that is managable in price, at least in my opinion anyway.

I certainly hope that #83 is back though, I know that.

Can a player be traded twice without playing a game? Apparently he already got traded to the Rams this offseason.
