Never really developed in KC but at just 27 years old I think the potential is still there. Has a connection to Romeo Crennel and Nick Saban which could help bring him here on a team friendly deal with the belief that BB could help transform his career.

Also he'd be a good fit in are system in the hybrid 3-4 under/4-3 over front as the DE/DT.

Glenn Dorsey, DE for the Kansas City Chiefs at NFL.com

Wasn't a good fit in the 3-4. Might show some signs of life in the 4-3. Wouldn't mind kicking the tires, if not cost prohibitive.

at 6'1 1/2" tall, I don't see Dorsey being a fit here.

I don't know how much it costs the Pats to kick the tires on these kinds of players, but I think they should leave no stone unturned in their pursuit of defensive help (well, and offensive, too). And I'm sure they do their due diligence.

The thing that scares me as an outsider is that when Romeo was here, his 3-4 ends got plenty of opportunities to blitz gaps and stuff like that. He didn't just play vanilla 3 man fronts all day like Dean Pees did. Seymour got kicked in a ton and he always beat the man in front of him and caused havoc. Makes me suspect the opportunities were there for Dorsey as well.

Wilfork 6'2
Love 6'1
Pryor 6'1
Ninkovich 6'2
Francis 6'2

We are not exactly a amusement park ride.

Ninkovich is 6'3 1/8".
Pryor is only 6'0 and he's an interior pass rush specialist. Something that Dorsey isn't.
Justin Francis is 6'2 3/8" and only 268 lbs. He plays DE in the 4-3. You aren't comparing Apples to Apples.

Love is the only one that Dorsey compares to and Love was riding the bench in favor of Deaderick as the season wore on.

Also, it's my belief that the Pats are going to try and get taller on the line to help with swatting down balls.. Something they haven't done much of over the past few years..

Did Ninkovich grow? Francis played DT in sub packages and actually was playing 3-4 RDE in the Ravens game last Sunday.

Also Love rode the bench because he had a nagging knee injury and was a starter on Sunday prior to leaving because of aggravating it.

How tall are you? Because honestly if you think we'd pass on someone with a ton of untouched potential over the 12-15 inches you're really being foolish..

I think passing people over for size has been part of the pats problem on defense. Shawn Crable was the perfect size while Clay Mathews was undersized. Take guys if they can play, forget about size. They said Russel Wilson was too short. Or a better example, Drew Brees.

I actually like the thinking here for potential players like this. These are the kinds of moves that have been made in the past that have brought success, and the risk isn't nearly as high as many of the big name/big money FA's that so many want to pursue.

I would imagine that while Dorsey himself may not end up coming to fruition, this is exactly the kind of signing that could really help the defense take another step.

Of course cost will always be a huge factor, and the perceived worth of a guy like Dorsey may not be agreed upon.

nothing wrong with kicking the tires ....I look at it as ...low risk..high reward......!!!!

I actually see him coming here as likely. His market will not be high and BB loves Saban players and was rumored to trade up to draft him in 2008.

He fills pretty much the exact role that Wilfork does and will make too much for a backup. We don't need another run blocking DT at starter money.

Also Dorsey is a good player, you guys saying he didn't develop are missing the mark. He's not Geno Atkins but he's average for NFL starter at DT. He just doesn't fill a need.

He is 3-4 DE or 4-3 DT. Wilfork is NT?

DT is one of the biggest needs on the team.

Tackle is absolutely a need. Filling it with a good to great player opposed to an average player is preferable.

Swatting down balls is overwhelmingly a function of awareness and lack of engagement by the opposing O-lineman. A 7ft tall D-lineman won't swat down any balls if he's being hit off balance by the O-lineman.

DT is one of the biggest needs on the team.
That's a fallacy. The New England Patriots already have six defensive tackles under contract for the 2013 NFL Season:

Vince Wilfork
Kyle Love
Brandon Deaderick
Myron Pyror
Armond Armstead
Marcus Forston

The New England Patriots only have two cornerbacks under contract for the 2013 NFL Season:

Alfonzo Dennard
Glass-IR Dowling

The New England Patriots only have four safeties under contract for the 2013 NFL Season:

Devin McCourty
Tavon Wilson (dime back/special teams)
Nate Ebner (special teams)
Malcolm Williams (practice squad/special teams)

Gregory is under contract
