Pats players skipping the Pro bowl

The Pats played three extra games last season and two this season. That is more wear and tear on the body and less time to rest, and is an often unconsidered drag on a teams' future performance.

How many extra games have the Pats played since their dynasty began in 2001?

Even a game played half-heartedly is not rest. Screw the Pro Bowl!

There IS one potential positive this year; isn't BB the HC for the AFC?

An opportunity to schmooze with potential future Pats is cool.

IMO, the Pro-Bowl is a waste of everyone's time. Let them have some time off to enjoy being "normal people" for a month before they get stuck back into the grind.

I would bet dollars to donuts if NE had won the game Brady would be healthy enough to practice for the Superbowl.

No *****. Must have hurt his leg while extending it into Pollard's thigh... :)

Something like an extra season and a half.

I don't know if Brady or Welker would have gone to begin with, but doesn't Wilkork and Mankins normally show up to this? With all the BB and Patriot bashing that's been going on and everyone being so happy that the Patriots lost, I wouldn't be surprised if they used that as one more reason to not show up and say "screw you!". (The NFL and the media, not the fans.)

Except of course for Mayo who seems to have missed the memo so as some else already said... I am very disappointed in him.

The Pro Bowl is a complete waste of time. it's a long season they should simply have an awards night a few weeks after the SB and leave it at that.

Nah, should be Fox. Used to be loser of conference championship games. Now it's best record of losers of divisional round.

For me, as a Pats fan this is not about seeing Brady & Co. play one more game. It’s about showing your appreciation to your fans who have voted you to play in that game.

Players who skip the game for reasons other than injury or Superbowl participation are just plain douchebags as far as I’m concerned. As much as I despise Payton Manning, the guy made the effort and showed up in Honolulu. Where are Brady and Welker? Who the fck knows. Really pisses me off. No wonder people out there hate Brady and this organization. Our players come across as the uttermost douchebags sometimes, and I just don’t understand the reason for their behavior.

So you want 1/3 of Brady to play? Considering that fans only count 1/3 of the vote.

And it is a crap game, where no one has anything to gain. Name the team and that is about it. In fact I hate all All Star games. And I am huge NHL fan and glad that there will not be another All Star game till 2015.

the pro bowl is by far the worst....who cares

Just go to Hawaii. What's wrong with the free trip, it's not like you have to put in much work. Stop acting like spoiled divas and go meet some fans, play some golf and hob-nob with your peers. :rocker:

Banzai.... the chances of any player being hurt on this circus match is ZERO. Just show your face, smile, golf a bit, and most importantly - show that you care about the fans who voted you to be part of the circus :)

I always remembered when I lived on the West Coast and we sucked pretty bad, the Pro Bowl was one of the few times I was able to see any of my favorite Patriots players play. Andre Tippett, Bruce Armstrong, Stanley Morgan, maybe a few others.

Right because playing tackle football with elite fast 300 LB folks has no health risk whatsoever.

Why anyone would watch this joke excepting inveterate jock sniffers is beyond me.

I have no problem at all with this.

They have the rest of the season to rest.... and not like there will be any super effort made anyways.

I wish I had their job.... 6 months on, 6 months off....

It's not even close to 6 months off. As soon as that whislte blew to end that game, the next season prep started.

Some say its becoming like a flag football game. I say a flag football pro bowl would be pretty sweet actually.

no good reason to risk playing

nfl probowl is really a different animal from the other all star games

it's at the end of a season, not the middle, and it's a more violent sport, despite the rules changes for the pro bowl

the only way to make the probowl more meaningful would be to put it mid season with something on the line like superbowl home field, but they can't do it because of how violent the sport is and the tradition of picking a host neutral city

I fell asleep trying to give a crap about this.

Who cares? The Pro Bowl sucks and it gives some up&coming player a chance to go instead.
