On defense want to see them address speed at LB and size with the DB's. Bring back Talib if possible.
On offense need a legit speedy WR, bring back Wes, would like to see a horse or two added to the OL.
The Patriots need to add swagger to their roster whether through the draft or FA.
This team is not far away. Just a bit more skilled badass will put them over the top.

Looking at their bad ass level now:

Brandon Spikes, assassin up the middle.

Talib, two troubled, thug like corners, which are great traits for the position.

Not there yet but already theres a nucleus.

Re-sign: Talib, Edelman, Arrington, Woodhead.

I hope Vollmer can be resigned but feel we'd get equal value allowing Cannon to start and drafting another RT.

I love Welker but for me, it's time to move on and save the salary.

Trade for Larry Fitzgerald.

I'd resign Talib, Edelman, Woodhead, Arrington.

I'd try to resign Vollmer for $6-7m per, or tag and trade.

If Welker can command more than $5m per season, I'd let him go. I think there has been a dropoff in his effectiveness, and I don't want to pay big money for his next few years. Hernandez, Edelman, Woodhead and Vereen should be able to work in Welker territory and we can invest Welker money elsewhere.

Now first off, let's say bye bye to Chung. No reason to bring him back. Now, I think we resign Welker, that's first priority. And bring back Talib on a 3-ish year contract. Resign Arrington for cheap. Vollmer's gonna cost too much, let him walk. Here's where it gets tough- resign either Woodhead or Edelman. I'm going off on a limb here, I'm taking Edelman. I don't want Woodhead to leave, but something's telling me someone's gonna pay him more than they should. We need to save the money, Edelman will come back for cheap.

So of the players above, Vollmer, Woodhead, and Chung walk.

Now for FA. I think there will be one or two big FA splashes. First off, Henry Melton, boy would he make this pass rush a million times better in the middle. That's one guy, but if he costs too much Alan Branch could be available for cheaper as well. The other splash would possibly be Ed Reed, a guy many have speculated would come here. I'm leaving that as only a possibility because he may cost a LOT of money.

Other signings I'm predicting are Brian Hartline, Deandre Levy (as a coverage LB), possibly Ed Reed, and maybe someone to bring in at RT.
I'll also add that CFL Anothony Armstead guy everyone's been talking about, why not.

So FA and Re signings That I'm predicting:
WR Wes Welker
CB Aqib Talib
WR Julian Edelman
CB Kyle Arrington
DT Henry Melton
WR Brian Hartline
LB DeAndre Levy
DE Anthony Armstead

Now for the draft here's the selections I'm PREDICTING, not the actual selections:
1st (29th)
2nd(60th)
3rd traded down for 4th and 5th round selections
so a 4th
5th
Two 7th rounders.

1st round- Many say Tavon Austin, but I'll say Terrence Williams, as I saw from one mock- size and staright line speed, oh yeah. :rocker:

2nd round- David Amerson CB/S. Depth at CB, but can also play safety in case he's needed. We've learned you can never have too much depth in the D-backfield. He can compete for the starting spot with Dowling when Talib or Dennard go down. (Wait, what?? )

4th- Brennan Williams OT. Will compete with Marcus Cannon. Sounds scary that that's all I'm putting for OL help, but ehh, Scarnechia will figure it out.

5th Chase Thomas, DE. Trevor Scott, Jermaine Cunningham, a little up in the air on them. Why not give some pass rush competition??

7a. Jake Knott, LB. LB depth, plain and simple.

7b. OL depth, insert name here.

Thoughts??

First one I'd sign would be Vollmer.

Here's the problem: New Englands found way more successes in finding lineman than WR's and DBs. Look at how hard finding great DBs and WRs has been for us and look at how easy Its been to find O linemen.

I don't think this is a crazy idea. If we can't re-sign Vollmer we could tag him and look to trade him. The franchise number for OT's next season is about $9.6mil, but the team trading for him could just sign him to a new contract. It would have to happen pretty quickly to clear that money off our books and move forward with the offseason but I think it can be done. With a high demand for OT's around the league and a relatively weak draft class, Vollmer's value could be high. Depending on what happens with Jake Long and Ryan Clady, Vollmer could be the best OT available. I would prefer to lock him up long term but it all comes down to money. If he can't be retained at a reasonable price, why not try and get something out of him.

Ideally we could lock up Talib early and have an agreement in place with Welker. Once the trade goes through and that money comes off the books we can make the Welker deal official and move on.

Per Vollmer. we draft a player on good scouting, he turns out well, so we cut him loose and roll the dice because OLinemen are easy to get. Hmmm. strange business model based on strange assumptions IMO.

Its one of the problems with being successful at developing players, you can only re-sign so many guys. So you not only have to take into account financial issues but also positional value and depth. RT isn't a position of huge value and we have had success developing O-lineman recently. You also have to take into account Vollmer's injury history when making this decision. Its all just part of the business of football and its the same for every team.

Denver offer Clady 5/$50M I'm not going over 7 for Vollmer he is a RT and no where near the level player of Clady.

For the Pats, yes. For other teams, probably not. That raises his value.

Would people be upset if you changed tact and looked at the outgoing draft picks (4th,5th,6th rounds) as trades for Jeff Demps, Armond Armstead and Jake Ballard? That leaves a first, second, third, seventh and seventh.

To me, that looks like more than decent value.

This is the way we should view our lack of draft choices.
No need to trade down all over the place to get extra picks.
Stay with our current picks and choose the best player
available. Supplement the picks with high end undrafted
players like Forston, Bolden, Zusevics, and Francis.
