I'm a geezer. Been around longer than most of you (PatsNut, Patsfanken, Mo, and a few others excepted) but THIS is the weirdest thing I've ever seen. On 2nd thought, all those Rock Hudson girl friend romances in the 50s might be the same but I was oblivious of that.

It's all Bellichicks fault, he had Ernie Adams create the hoax to trick Te'o and then be uncovers it to make his draft stock fall. It's all part of his plan to get a LB that can drop into coverage better.

People really need to move past the issue of gay people in professional sport. A gay professional sportsman has as much relevance to me as someone praying to the flying spaghetti monster.

Ian Roberts (6'5 and 247lbs) announced he was gay in 1995. He was one of the toughest SOB's to ever pull on a Rugby League guernsey in Australia.

In no way am I saying it is an issue, but if a future starting NFL inside linebacker announces he is gay, that would be a big story.

I know and I agree with you patsinthesnow. Given the prevalence of what I look at as minority rights growth, I still find it amazing that something like this would be such a major news story in 2013. As far as society has come with acceptance, there is still so much left to do.

As it stands, we're all still speculating anyway and Te'o could be from Mars for all we know.

If he's gay he's a guy that made up a girlfriend to keep away from suspicion and decided to "kill her off" when he realized he couldn't keep that ruse up for long. This way nobody will ever question why he isn't dating anyone, since his girlfriend just died. That makes him more sympathetic, because he'll be seen as a guy who got caught up into an attempt at hiding a sexual orientation that is widely frowned upon by professional athletes. Then, he's not a scumbag, he's a kid who made a poor decision while attempting to hide who he is, because his career would be in jeopardy otherwise.
