You're right Armchair! What we need is a little Bluto!

Bluto's Big Speech - Animal House (9/10) Movie CLIP (1978) HD - YouTube

Not sure if I got the link right - It's Bluto's Big Speech from Animal House - You can watch it on Youtube!

Go Pats!!

Actually the typical patsfans.com format is for you to say "Was it over when the Germans bombed pearl harbor????" and then some clueless new poster comes in and corrects you "Um, wasn't it the Japanese?", leading to him/her getting clowned by 90% of the forum.

I get as depressed and frustrated after a playoff loss as bad as anyone and it takes me days, if not weeks to fully recover(especially after SB losses), but the more the seasons of BB/Brady that go by, I come to simply relish the down time leading up to the actual playoff game. I can still vividly remember the "not-so-good" days of the Pats and will remind myself of what this time of year was like back then. I m not taking the Texans likely and will won't get excited about the AFCCG until the game is decided and hopefully the Pats will get to host the Ravens at home.

The "malaise", as you say, is because the Patriots have morphed from a team that ALWAYS won the CLOSE games against GOOD teams and in the playoffs to a team that, since they last won the Super Bowl in February of 2005 is a decidedly sub par 2-4 in one score games in the playoffs and they've lost two Super Bowls with craptastic defense, miscues, and damn near miracle catches/plays by the opposition.
They've proven they can blow teams out - Denver last season, Jacksonville in 2007, NYJ in 2006, but when it comes to nut cuttin' time the Patriots have failed more often than not when the pressure's on the playoffs. But they've lost close ones to the NYJ in 2010, the two SBs, and Indianapolis in 2006. They beat SD and BAL in close playoff games thanks to fantastic individual plays (Troy Borwn and Moore) and withsttod bad games by Brady in both. Let's hope this season erases all the past shortcomings in the playoffs and they finally win another one with Brady, because Lord knows he certainly deserves it and has earned it.

LOL, you're right!

I think 2009 and 2010 has destroyed the psyche of some fans. Those were years where everyone thought the Pats would win their first playoff game easily and they ended up losing and pretty badly in both.

What people are forgetting is that those teams were different and so were their competition.

As we found out after the fact (and some some big signs of it during the season), the 2009 team was a soft team with several bad eggs and uncoachable players. Turds like Adalius Thomas and Shawn Springs were leaders on that team.

The 2010 team was the first year of a transition from that team to the team we have today. Guys like Gronk, Hernandez, Spikes, McCourty, etc. were first or second year players then and are now are leaders of this team.

For the flaws that the 2010 Jets had, Ryan is a great defensive mind and he threw a totally new wrinkle to his defense and he had the guns to execute it. I don't think Kubiak is nearly as creative and I don't know if he has a team to be that creative.

Playoff football!
This is what we wait all year for!

And what has been on the front page for days on end?

Anybody Else have a Bad feeling?
We're going to lose and it's all my fault.
Anybody have any new superstitions?

Seattle to the SB.

And threads about RG3, Ray Lewis, Rob Ryan, that idiot from ESPN and somebody's girlfriend.

Sounds like a bunch of Red Sox fans.

post of the day

It's not playoff time that's bringing out this malaise, it's the Texans. I think the board will have a different flavor for Brady-Manning XIII

Are you kidding? People will get even more nutso if it gets to that point. LOL. The media hype alone would be mind-numbing.

Can you imagine next week's posts if the Pats are scheduled to head to Denver next Sunday:

"The Pats always struggle in Denver"

"How are we going to stop Von Miller to get to Brady?"

"Manning is going to pick apart this secondary"

The truth is though if you try to reason your way into believing wholeheartedly into a team, it's nearly impossible. It's nearly impossible to use reason to believe into anything because there are too many 'reasonable' obstacles to overcome.

.

I think 2007 screwed a lot of people up.

After all, if a record setting 18-0 team can lose in the Super Bowl, how can you ever really really be confident again?

Thread tools - Ignore this thread

Problem solved. BTW, This thread adds to the very problem you're complaining about.

The excellent "Ignore Thread" feature makes the board more enjoyable at times like this where the insecure cannot restrain themselves from sobbing all over the internet.
Can you put entire threads on ignore? ;)

The mommas ain't done weening their precious.....so the world is still overwhelming and scary to some. And remember, being successful these days is the new evil

It's hardly been bearable. The latest Chung thread made me punch my phone. But I guess he deserved it.

I frequent another Pats-heavy message board, and a 49er one because I live in the SF Bay Area and have "adopted" the Niners as my NFC team. On those, there is nothing like the hand-wringing here. However, one can always click or not click of course after reading all the tread titles.

I have a hard time believing that another Patriots message-board doesnt have the same kind of hand-wringing. It happens everywhere.

For what its worth, 3/4 of the threads listed as "evidence" of our Red Sox mentality here were in fact written with an intentional, self-deprecating humor.

Your outlook(s) on the the combined psychology of Patsfan.com will be greatly improved if you don't take every Thread so literally ;)

For example: 95.98% of the people talking about their superstitions are in fact making fun of themselves when talking about the silly things they do to help us "win" -as was the guy who started a thread stating it was his fault that we're going to lose, he was obviously just trying to be funny about it.

Maybe we should have a sticky for all of the I'm-scared-I-jinxed-us-we're-going-to-lose-OK-not-really-but-totally-yes-really*quadruple-reverse-jinx* threads.
