Reiss peek at 2013 foes

New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

No Colts (unless the sweep Texans as part of a Houston collapse that starts tomorrow night), but yet another Manning-Brady game, in Foxborough.

1. With the Patriots and Broncos both clinching division titles last weekend, it ensures another chapter of the Tom Brady/Peyton Manning rivalry next season, as the Broncos will visit Gillette Stadium. The only other piece to fill out for the Patriots' 2013 opponents is a road trip to face the AFC South first-place finisher, which is likely to be the Texans.

2. Patriots' 2013 opponents at home: Browns, Steelers, Saints, Buccaneers, Broncos, Bills, Dolphins, Jets.

3. Patriots' 2013 opponents on the road: Ravens, Bengals, Falcons, Panthers, AFC South champ (probably Texans), Bills, Dolphins, Jets.

Not a cakewalk, but the Pats are used to playing first-place schedules. (And yes, I know, big stretch is coming up for this season ... but we as fans do get to look ahead a bit! :) )

Kind of early for this, but does anyone want to bet which part of the season the Broncos @ Pats game will be played next year? I'll be shocked if they force P6 to play here in bad weather.

And shouldn't the Jets be listed as something other than opponents. Entertainers maybe?

So we basically get 6 games against the AFC East, 2 games against divsion champs in the AFC West (Broncos) and AFC South (most likely Texans), and 4 games each against the AFC North and NFC South.

Not a cakewalk, but manageable. Road games at Houston, Baltimore and Atlanta look fairly tough right now, but it's a long way off.

Definitely early but with the schedule largely pre-determined (division foes, rotating division foes from opposite conference) and teams clinching early, there it is. Yeah, pretty sure you can pencil in Broncs-Pats for a Sunday night in November.

Re: Reiss peek at 2013 foes

in 2013 we play the Minus Calvin Johnson the better WR's in the game...we will have to field a really good Secondary.

Re: Reiss peek at 2013 foes

Assuming Brady keeps the TD streak going for the rest of this year, the game against the Saints will most likely be scheduled for the week he can break it.

Yup. And if it happens, I'm pretty sure the Pats won't stop the game for a big ceremony.

Somebody better call Bob Ryan. The NFL is up to their shenanigans fixing schedules again?

Now that Peyton plays in denver does it really matter? He's gonna end up playing in bad weather anyways. I think midseason is the best time for them to play anyways.

Re: Reiss peek at 2013 foes

Why do the Pats have to play in Baltimore on consecutive seasons? Ithought they alternated home and away?

I won't complain because we played Manning and the Colts here for 3 seasons in a row (not including playoff games). But it is a good question, how is the home/away games chosen? Do they just rotate?

It's never been that way. Indy visited us three straight years; 04-06. We traveled there in 07-09. If you look over a six year period. It's easier to understand because there are 2 rounds of divisional games. Plus the seeding (1 vs 1 and 2 vs 2) games. Here's why;

2012 Year One - 1 vs 1 East at AFC North. We host 1 in AFC West. We're hosting other one seed. Can't host both. In 09 Miami hosted Pitt in the 1 vs 1 game in the seeded game. We're playing AFC South. Those games are the opposite of where they were 3 years ago.

2013 Year Two - You play the AFC North. Where the game is played is based on where it was 3 years before. In 2010, Baltimore and Cincy came to New England. We travel there.
We're Hosting AFC West and visiting AFC South. Because in 2010 we hosted Indy Top in AFC South and Played at SD. Top in AFC West The opposite.

2014 Year Three - You're back to the 1 vs 1 hosting AFC North. We're at AFC South. Because in 2011 we visited Pittsburgh and hosted Indy in the seeded games. Div games are AFC West.

2015 Year Four - 1 vs 1 AFC North at East. Because we're visiting AFC West. Because we hosted Denver this year and were at Baltimore. AFC South are division games.

2016 Year Five - You play AFC North. Baltimore comes to NE because we went there in 2013. DIvision game not seeding game. We're hosting AFC South because we're visited Houston and hosted Denver in prev matchup.

2017 Year Six - 1 vs 1 at AFC North They visit us in 2014. We're hosting AFC South because in 2014 visited them. AFC West is divisional round.

Manning and Denver will visit us 3 straight years. This year was 1 vs 1. Next year is a 1 vs 1 and 2014 will be divisional game. We visited them and Oaklan in 2011. They come to NE.

Likely 5 games against 2012 playoff teams and either 1 home/4 road or 2 home/3 road depending if Pitt or Cinn gets the last AFC playoff spot...

Re: Reiss peek at 2013 foes

Looks like a tough schedule based on this year, but alot can change. Atlanta has had great years before and then came back as a mediocre team, Ravens will be a year older, etc. But some teams may get better too.

I do know that Saints game will be tough as long as Brees is there. But it'd be really nice if we can finally end his ownage of us.

I wouldn't be totally shocked if both make it. I think Houston will beat Indy 2x. Giving the Colts six losses. Plus, Indy has a late trip to KC in December. Romeo will have his defense ready for Mr. Luck. Even with 6 losses it may come down to tie-breakers between; Pitt, Indy and Cincy for two wild-card spots. If we beat Houston tomorrow, I think they will play hard to get the top seed.

I'm thinking Pats get more prime time games in '13. How the rest of the season plays out will play a role, but there have been a lot of flat out bad Sun-Mon-Thu night games this year, and the networks might decide the Patriots are a pretty reliable draw. Been kind of nice having a bunch of 1:00/4:15 games this year.

They play Indy, @Indy in week 17. If they have #1 seed and HFA locked up by then ( or are locked into the #2 seed), they may rest their starters to avoid a Welkeresque situation. If T. J. Yates is getting the bulk of the snaps and the Texans treat it as a 4th pre-season game, it could also be the deciding factor as to whether Indy beats out Cinn or Pitt.

If we win out, they will have to win that last game to get the top seed. Hypothetically, if they lose at New England tomorrow, they won't want to return in AFCCG. I think they will try to win top seed and play out. They will have a bye. Not playing has turned out to be a disaster. See Indy in 05 and 07. See GB last year. You play to win the game.

Re: Reiss peek at 2013 foes

The one home game that stands out is the Saints game. Brees has never lost to the Patriots, that includes his time in S.D:eek: Hopefully we can break that trend!

Everyone knows BB is blackmailing Goodell to let the Pats play the Browns or Chiefs every week, with those teams pretending to be the 49ers, Texans or Steelers. Goodell knows he will be force choked to death if he dares to mention this in public.

:D
