Pats and Jets

Connolly traveled with the team, which means he is at least a game time decision

I'll go ahead and say this. This game scares me. It was a close game last time, and while the defense looked better against Luck, I'm still not convinced. The Talib pick-six was nice, but there were other times he was beaten badly in man coverage.

The Jets know how important this game is to the Pats, who must win to seal up the division, bury the Rats, and have any hope of catching the Ravens or Texans. The loss to the Ravens really hurt this team. IMO this is an absolute must win game for the Pats.

The Jets don't give a rat's arse about the importance of this game to the Pats.

They are simply clawing to survive for themselves.

We'll see everything and the kitchen sink tonight (and that's not only our Thanksgiving feast! :D )

Is it too late to say "**** the Rats"?

If not, consider it said.

Look for a huge run game from the Pats tonight:

1) The two biggest run games for the Pats this year have both been games where Donald Thomas was at LG and Connolly at RG. The key is whether Connolly can play tonight.

2) Fells is a very good blocking TE - - that's really his specialty. He's nowhere near Gronk as a receiving threat, but very comparable blocking.

3) The Jets run D absolutely stinks. Harris and Scott have gotten old and slow - - think Patriots '08 aging D - - and do not have the lateral movement to keep up with shifty Woodhead, Vereen and surprising good lateral-powerful Ridley.

4) Pouha is battling injury, but they are still pluggin him in there.

5) Vereen has improved each game the past 4 weeks and is finally showing the running ability that made the Pats draft him ahead of Ridley. The 3-headed monster RB crew is finally healthy and hitting their peak at the same time.

the Jets are going to throw everything at us tonight-I guarantee it and I'd also like to dedicate this track to Shonne Green from Brandon Spikes...

As SMY notes, the history of the Pats-Jets rivlary between BB and Rex Ryan is that the Pats do much better in the second game of the season:

Patriots fare much better against Jets the second time around - Patriots - Boston.com

2009: L 16-9, W 31-14
2010: L 28-14, W 45-3
2011: W 30-21, W 37-16
2012: W29-26 (OT), ?

The second game hasn't been close the past 3 years. It will be interesting see if today holds form, in spite of the injuries and the short week. I'm guessing it will.

Yup. Guess it's following form. Don't see this one going to OT.

Well, so far everything the Jets can throw at us doesn't seem to be too bad, now does it? 35 points in the 2nd quarter alone so far, up 35-0. Close game.

This team is starting to round into form. Let the Texans be the champions of the first 10 games. BB always says the season doesn't really start until after Thanksgiving. The Pats are missing 3 Pro Bowl/All Pro players (Mankins, Vollmer and Gronk) plus a future Pro Bowler in Jones, and are dominating on the road on short rest. This is a mentally tough team. Meanwhile the feared Texans are struggling to win in OT with a lot of help from the refs the last 2 weeks.

I'll take my chances with the Pats. And the secondary IS getting better.
