How do you fix this mess?

Napoli would be an interesting player at first. He seems to rip it up at Fenway. That said, I'd prefer to have a team of athletic freaks rather than sluggers.

Is De La Rosa good enough to start next year.

I know he's just off TJ surgery.

Very quiet in the market. I hope we see something in early december to make us go Wow.

No hes not.

.....and if Jonny Gomes is the replacement for Cody Ross, somehow.... spectacularly, we got worse than we were last year.

Imagine paying $5 mill per year for Johnny effing Gomes....a jag that can't hit righties....all because he's loosy goosy in the club house. Give me $5 mill and I'll shoot golf balls out my butt in the clubhouse while singing Sweet Caroline with a KFC bucket on my head and standing on a pony keg of Old swill.
Imagine 12 months ago they had Josh Reddick on their roster on the cheap....and now the Sux are paying up for the A's platoon guy.
Remember back in the day when the Sox had at least one must see guy....a guy that you couldn't take your eyes off of....Boggs the hitting machine, Roger pre roids, Pedro, Manny....even Nomar....must see TV. Now I get to look forward to seeing which inning John Lackey implodes in ......1st or 2nd.
Can't wait to see the pitcher that Carmine spits out.....maybe a Livan Henandez or a Jamie Moyer

And here's a little nugget I poached from SOSH...
"In 3,500 career innings in the outfield, Johnny Gomes posted a UZR of -37, which translates out to -13 runs per full season. DRS rates him even worse, coming in at -50, as does Sean Smith‘s Total Zone. Gomes is basically as bad as an outfielder can possibly be while still being considered a passable part-time player at the position."

Yes....Sux rockin the off season

I'll start a collection.

will you do it for a twenty?

Do the Red Sox have a 1B yet?

Looks like Napoli is a guy that wears down pitchers by seeing a lot of pitches. I haven't found any stats on his "pitches seen per at bat", but what I am reading, he's cut from that mold. That's good news.

I found this:

"...Ross (4.26 pitches per plate appearance), Gomes (4.03) and Napoli (4.41) all rank well above the major league average of 3.82..."

Winter Meetings thoughts on Mike Napoli, Angel Pagan, R.A. ****ey - Tom Verducci - SI.com

But unless he takes to Fenway or reverts to 2011 form, he's nothing exciting and could wind up being a big disappointment -- he's a slugger who can't run, has no natural position, has never played many games (partly due to being a catcher) and is north of 30.

Fine for a stopgap signing, I suppose, as I don't think he'll be taking ABs from anybody promising? And if he's got character and work ethic (I have no idea whether this is the case), a good guy to be around any younger players who make the club.

Oh look....the Red Sox are overpaying again. Is there a smilie where he bangs his head into a wall till it breaks through?

The interesting point for mine is everything the Red Sox should be doing to rebuild a team with youth and athleticism, they're doing the complete opposite.

*sigh* hearing the rumors I'm thinking of leasing a 5 yr spot on the Blue Jays bandwagon.

a) The Sox are not doing it right

b) The Jays look scary good.

Until the Sox address their pitching deficiencies (basically every level is a problem) they'll be consigned to the doldrums.

I'd rather see the Jays than the damned Rays and Yankees a top the division if Cherrington is intent on rebuilding Dad's Army.

feels like we're watching the Jets offseason, more worried about press.

some starting pitching would be nice.

I mean Lackey ain't going to be able to carry that rotation on his shoulders next year.

:)

Mike Napoli is an ok signing. Hate Victorino.

Think Victorino is a good player.

Astounded they needed to pay him 13 per for 3 years.

the market is crazy.

Someone said Dempsey for Ellsbury. that makes sense. i can't see Ells staying here...might as well deal him.

Yankees offered Youk 12M? for what? .235? good luck to them, and congrats to Youk.
