To address all the posts saying Talib and Spikes tested positive for Adderall....the NFL can't disclose which drugs a player tested positive for so the Adderall stuff is coming from the players or their agents. Do you really think all these players (Haden included) are risking hundreds of thousands of dollars to take freaking Adderall? Do you really think they all made the same mistake?

IMO there's a 99% chance these guys were all taking some form of Steroids or masking agent. They're just saying it was Adderall because that is a better PR move.

If anyone has a counter argument to this theory let me know.

Addreall (Ritalin) can be considered a performance enhancer, albeit an arguably weak one. But your suggestion that it's related to steroids or a masking agent is quite an unfounded leap that doesn't hold water unless/until you come up with something more solid.

it was a misinterpretation of the suspension. he's suspended 4games...not 4 weeks. he would have been available if he was still on the bucs.

thanks i just read an article on espn NY saying week 11.

I know this is going to piss everyone off but... he's looked good in every game except... Wait for it... ugh ******* ****..... against the Giants in week 2.

Then he fits right in to our defense day one!

I don't get it. A 7th or 6th pick would have been worth it to make an SB run, but a 4th for a 7th isn't?

This actually sort of blows me away that the analysis is this bad. I mean, if you took those picks and applied it to this draft it would mean something like trading Jake Bequette for Talib and Dennard/Ebert. I know that its not perfectly comparable because you never know what you're going to get in the draft, but we still aren't really sure what is going to come out of Bequette, Dennard or Ebert.

To me this is the defensive version of getting Lloyd. Is he the prototype deep threat we've all wanted since Moss? No, but he was a big upgrade from Branch or Ocho. Do we know if Talib will be the key that fixes the biggest glaring problem on our D? No, but chances are he'll be better than Dennard or Arrington.

At this point in the season could we really ask for anything else?

I think he doesn't like the prospect of giving Talib a long term deal...

Which doesn't make sense either because he hasn't seen him play in this system yet.

That's the point. We are where we are in the season and the CBs we have are the CBs we have, so the only option to fix a backfield is to import talent. Here's a newsflash. Talent is not free. I'll repeat once more that in 2003 BB "rented" a NT with a 4th pick to fix an awful 2002 run D. It worked. We won a SB. I believe that despite the "one game at a time" mantra to the team and media, BB's long game is to create a team that is a strong playoff performer. Guess some draftniks would rather have a 2013 4th. To each his own.

I've been checking different sites to see what they are thinking.

Nationally they are constantly comparing this trade to the Ocho and Hanynesworth trades. They can't be further from each other. Ocho and Haynesworth were both trades for players who were past starts who were both well beyond their primes. In Haywnesworth case the diminished talent was combined with a bad attitude, and he was gone in about 4 games. Chad, had simply either run out of gas or was a bad fit for the offense. It wasn't for a lack of effort on either side. Just too bad.

Talib is seems to be talked about as being a top 15 CB, who is entering his prime years at 26. You can't sugarcoat this kid's wart's, but none of his issues seem to be related to his attitude toward football, and he's seemed to have thrived in the strict atmosphere that exists now in TB. I don't think this is going to need a massive attitude adjustment to get this kid turned around. What he needs is close supervision and strong leadership. He' should be able to get that here.

BTW- Those same guys who want to bash Bill for Albert and and Chad, always forget about Waters, Anderson, and Carter and the contributions they made to last season's team. And I'm sure the Felger's and Borges's of the world are going to play the righteous indignation card with Bill and Kraft for taking on a "sinner".

Lots of glass houses are being lived in by the Boston media

25 pages and counting! I guess Pats fans pretty much like this deal?

Count me in--certainly seems like he's got some talent. Oh the character side, I always look at it this way: a new guy coming in more or less gets a clean slate, assuming he didn't rape or murder someone or something. When he becomes one of your team's guys, you look at his behavior from that point forward.

So, if he keeps his nose clean, away we go. Good stuff.

Bucs fan here.

I think this is a good trade for both teams.

Coach Schiano gave Talib one last chance and he blew it this year so we were getting rid of him anyways. It was either trade him or cut him. Might as well get a draft pick for him and a 4th rounder is pretty good.

Talib is an inconsistent CB who has off the field issues as we all know. Inconsistent as in he doesn't really show up every week. One week he'll shut down Steve Smith, then the next week he'll allow Hakeem Nicks to get over 200 yards. When he is on his game though, he is a very good CB.
That's probably a fair assessment. Its going to be about 3 weeks before we get a chance to see for ourselves. Right now we'll take his bad because his good is so much better than the alternative.

Simply he finally gives us a player we can match up against an opponent's #1 man to man and have a fair shot at winning every now and again

I think this could turn out be a great trade. I woke up in Australia this morning hoping for something similar (was thinking DRC) as the Sterling Moore cut just didn't make sense with our injury situation back there. Obviously BB had a plan (never wise to doubt him) and this was it.

His talent is clearly there and he will bolster a secondary in need of a player like him. We just need him to buy in and this could be a win/win situation.

Happy with this :)

98.5 is announcing it right now. What the Patriots gave up has not been announced.

Now we have to deal with people screaming about his character and his current suspension for "Adderall".

Goodell has decreed it illegal to have ADHD in the NFL.

Rumor has it he will soon ban other medical conditions.

Bottom line here is we upgraded a position of need in a big way. All the Asante apologists should be on cloud 9 today. Talib has a similar set of ball skills but can actually tackle. Yes there are hiccups in his game. With the new rules there are hiccups in 95% of the cornerbacks in this league.

Despite giving up the low 4th I'm totally on board with this trade. He immediately makes the team better and is a valid candidate to make a big play and take away one side of the field. Safeties can help out cb2 and the front 7 can now be more aggressive. This is a very good opportunity and I hope it works out the way I envision it can.

2008 - Got in a fist fight with fellow Buc Cory Boyd
2009 - Charged with battering a Taxi Cab driver
2011 - Charged with assault with a deadly weapon on his sister's boyfriend

All charges were dropped in these incidents, but he is still a turd off the field.

To play on the edge, you gotta live on the edge ;)

BB has heard our prayers for DB help....outside the fact that it was driving him nuts too :p One thing to consider is that our young defense is taking shape and BB knows what they need to make the next step.....sometimes you have to take chances........to get where you want to go...

GO PATS

I don't disagree with a word you wrote. I just don't look forward to a repeat of the "Moss is Evil, BB sold his soul!" stuff from 2007.

Felger and mazz must be doing backflips because they can now rant endlessly.

I posted on a Tampa Bay message board to get their take on Talib. Here are 2 of the more detailed responses.

1)

I would say that Talib is inconsistent. He's got good size for a cb at 6'1, 205 lbs. He supposedly excels at man coverage but pick a game at random and you will see that isn't necessarily the case. For a guy his size he's got good speed and quickness so he can stay with receivers in and out of cuts. He seems to struggle most with receivers that can play physical with him though. Hakeem Nicks completely abused him this year. Made him look like he shouldn't even be on the same field with him and a lot of the issue there was the press. When he attempted to jam Nicks at the line he whiffed more than A Rod in the post season. It was ugly. Hes a solid tackler as far as corners go and isn't a liability in zone coverage either( may actually be better in zone due to his ball hawking nature).

He is also a bit of a gambler when it comes to jumping routes which can be alright but I fear it wont be good for your abysmal safeties. Overall I think you guys got a solid player though if you can find a way to keep him out of trouble. Lock him in a basement or something.

He's a solid talent that isn't going to save your secondary but he can be a strong piece to a defense if you put the right pieces around him.

2)

Talib has always been touted as a great Tampa-2/zone DB who can play decent man due to his size. He's been miscast as a chase/cover corner the last couple years on teams with piss poor pass-rush and garbage safeties. He's an excellent tackler who tackles very well along the line of scrimmage. He rarely commits PI. He has tremendous ball skills which get him in trouble. Those troubles were magnified because they happened in man coverage with supremely ****ty safety "help."

Let him play like Samuel and he'll do very well.

Best pats CB since Asante!

Talib/Dennard, an actual CB duo!

I like your thinking here man!!! I think Dennard is going to be a star.....Like Wilson too....Talib could bring it all together......The only thing I hope the Pats do in the future....IS WHEN YOU GET AN ALL STAR SECONDARY SQUAD AGAIN>>SIGN THEM ALL TO LONG TERM CONTRACTS!!!! INvest in the secondary again.....I think one thing that we have learned is that we NEED a good secondary to compete for titles in addition to having a kick ***** offense. I like the move from all I have read!!!! GO PATS!
