Is PATs zone coverage the problem?

Steven Gregory, gone AND forgotten. But the fact is that I believe he's been a key factor in the decline of the Pats secondary for a number of reasons. First he's the best coverage safety the Pats have. Because he's been out Chung has had to play his position, and that's not what he does best. That also means that Wilson has to get more snaps very early early in his career and we get the inevitable rookie mistakes. And then when Chung goes out the dominos continue to fall. McCourty has to play S and while he does well, its not like he's been practicing there since July. This secondary is scarily young. PLUS has had the disadvantage of not been able to play together much this year.

Will it get better. Yes it will. Gregory was doing interviews on Monday, and they don't usually let players who aren't going to play give interview. I believe he'll be back this week and we are going to see a big difference in the success of secondary.

BTW- most teams who lose BOTH their starting safeties have problems with their secondaries. I don't know why people act shocked that it didn't look good on Sunday.

McCourty is a better corner than safety. Not why sure everyone is obsessed with putting him there. In the games he has played safety the pass defense has been just as bad.

The past couple games we haven't been able to get the same pass rush and if you're playing zone you will get picked apart pretty quickly.

I would say yes, I hate the Zone scheme of this defense. Way too many big open areas left uncovered in the Patriots zone. Put the coverage on the shoulders of the DB's, have them play straight up man coverage so we can see what the players have or don't have individually instead of a unit as a whole. If they are hiding their DB's weakness behind zone schemes then we have more problems then we thought.
