Why was Ebner on the field with the game on the line?

It appears that every year we "load up" on DB's, but in critical moments this team has to resort to critical measures and play unprepared ST players...

Not sure if it is unique to the Pats, or a league wide problem.. it seems to happen too often.

CM, just beatin a dead horse. Does it really matter whose playin CB,S,FS at this point? Over last couple of years it's same'ole story. Maybe BB should go to his college buddies and borrow some to play on Sunday then go back on Mon to play on Sat. I see other teams upgrading their secondary and can't figure out why BB insists what we have is sufficiant enough. I like those BIG DBs 6 feet or over, Athletic hit like a truck. If they are few and far between, then lets at least be in few rather than not in it at all.

basically he released rice into the zone that was supposed to be wilson. would seem like the natural thing. my problem is more of...why the hell were the pats in their base defense instead of a nickel/dime look when EVERYONE knew the Seahawks were going to pass

While it may be true that going to a nickel or dime would have been a better play call I still think that asking a safety - any safety - to cover a WR one on one with no help is a recipe for disaster. Considering the situational football (down/distance/score/time) on that play it makes the defensive play call even more of a head scratcher.

I can understand if they're going to use the base defense in an attempt to generate some pass rush pressure on the QB - but if that is the decision then to me the much smarter play call would have been to keep McCourty in a man defense on that play rather than in a zone.

Think people, think!
Didn't see the game but from reading the thread it's obvious that injuries forced BB to use inexperienced endzone attendants to usher opposing players to their express EZ reservations for 7.
Thanks Fitzy!

Load up on DBs? Please, Ebner wasn't even good enough to start in college. Not sure why Bill keeps picking up college ST scrubs like Ebner and Sergio Brown. Ebner is not a good safety. How many college teams would he start for right now? Probably not many, its embarrassing that hes the best safety we can get on the field when our others go down.

I think this is just to have another guy in there up front to get to the QB and make sure Russel Wilson (Who is a mobile QB) doesn't go anywhere.
