Its not really ego. People confuse ego with confidence way to much. Ive seen most NE fans take your team seriously , like they always do. But, you have to understand their tradition of consistency and winning.
When we played you in 2010 we blew you out 34-19, and could have scored more. So when we went to seattle for the playoffs of course we were very confident. Not egotistic . We knew you could not handle our offense. What we didn't count on is our defense disintegrating, as it usually does outdoors.

So , ego is not the right word. I mean be realistic. From coaching to QB, to OL, etc, you are out matched, and have not faced a team even close the the Patriots. If anything, when you think of it, Seahawks fans are being very egotistic, because you have nothing to be confident about.

Come now, I expected a little better than that -- a man of your obvious education, breeding, and all. :D

No in all seriousness, I agree with you're saying Pherein, I honestly do. You're completely right in saying that a lot of Seahawks fan are being EXTREMELY egotistic (arrogant actually) when it comes to this game and every game. Regardless of how I might have come across here, I'm actually not one of those. I've watched this Patriots team through the years from time to time when they've been on TV up here in Southeast Alaska and believe you me ... I very much respect their tradition and what they've done under Belichick. We had a little bit of tradition under Holmgren, but still didn't win the big game. We've got NO tradition under Carroll yet ... and Carroll himself said this week that he's not happy with where the Seahawks as a team are at because they haven't won anything.

In many ways, I DO hate forums like these because you don't get a chance to interact face to face and really see where someone is coming from. Even a voice conference call system would be a heck of a lot better than these places.

As for me, I'm feeling confident heading in to this game -- not conceited, just confident -- because:
A) this game is being played in Seattle
B) I've seen some potential weaknesses that could be exploited.
C) Looking at the teams you've faced this year, I'm not entirely sure the Patriots have faced a defense quite the caliber of this one.

If this were being played in Foxboro ... I'd probably be chalking this one up as an automatic loss.

Personally, I'm thinking the Seahawks will win this one 24-20 ... but I could easily see it going the other way. Looking at our divisions -- I'd say that we need this game far more than you guys do. I don't know if you've looked at our schedule or not, but on Thursday (4 days after this game) ... we have to travel TO San Francisco. Now that was brutal of the schedule makers there.

So at long last, I'm flying back to the Nest. All I've sought to do over this past week is to both share insights ... and get insights from you guys -- not to talk smack (although I can definitely peck back if poked first). In all seriousness, you guys have been very gracious as a whole. You've constructed a heck of a nice Faneuil Hall here -- just don't get too caught up listening to your own speeches.

Good luck on Sunday ... the 21st against the Jets. If there is one thing we can both root for on Sunday -- no injuries to either team, please. And lastly, if you could do a favor for us up in Seattle -- go out and lay one on the Niners in Week 15 if you don't mind. ;)

Great stuff, Hawk, and may the best and better on Sunday, team win!

Thanks guys. It's been fun this week. It's good to know that we can swap insights (and razz each other a bit) without things getting nasty and all. I'll try not to leave too many bird droppings for ya on the way out. :p

If only all fans were like you...
I salute your ability to raise respect on this board despite belonging to a different fanbase. And I hope you'll agree that here we're just a tad smarter and more realistic than some other fans (read: JESTS)

We are all scholars here at Patsfans.com and in due time each of our sterling pupils will amass 5 nobel prizes... Three shall become president of the United States, six will find an individual cure for cancer, and one shall coach the New England Patriots to seventeen consecutive superbowls... I'm looking at you Off the Grid.

Personally, I'm feeling very confident about the game tomorrow. To be more specific, I'm confident about the following:

1. I'm confident that it will be a brutal and hard-fought game.
2. I'm confident that either the Pats or the Seahawks will win.
3. I'm confident that New England has by far the better offense.
4. I'm confident that Seattle has the better defense.
5. I'm fairly confident that New England is the better overall team, but the home field advantage could easily offset that.

I've been saying for weeks that this will be one of our toughest games, and that Seattle has one of the 2 best defenses in the NFL along with San Francisco. I also said before the Arizona game that Pats fans were over-confident and were under-estimating the Cardinals. The Pats didn't play well in that game. If they play that sloppily tomorrow, I suspect they will lose. But if they execute well, I think that they have a good chance of coming out on top. For me this game is an excellent barometer of how good this Pats team is, and how complete an offense this is. Many Pats fans expect a win as a matter of course, but I don't think this is a "gimme" game by any means, and I think it will be one of our more difficult tests this year. Only the San Francisco and Houston games - both at home - will be comparable tests among our remaining regular season games.

I like the Seahawks. Schneider and Carroll have done a good job. The defense is great. The offense is young but talented. I think you are a year or two away from being a serious NFC powerhouse, but I think you are one of the more dangerous and more interesting teams in the NFC. I hope you do well this year, except against us.

will amass 5 nobel prizes...

Heads up - every member of the European Union won the Nobel Peace Prize this year so there's more than 5 Nobel winners on this board now :p

Hightower and Edelman ruled out

Granted the Seahawks defense is pretty good but I'm wondering what the folks in Seattle are saying about next week's visiting offense.

Thank you NE Patriot fans for letting me visit your forum. Great board it seems by most of the comments I have read so far.

I think most informed Seahawk fans not to mention the Seahawk team themselves do not deceive themselves when it comes to NE, they being a consistently top team in the NFL for some years now. This is a true litmus test for the Seahawks as The Patriots are probably the best team/s in the NFL right up there with the Niners.

Seattle boast the top ranked defence in the NFL and New England the top offence as of now and yes this team has stopped Romo, Cam Newton and Arron Rogers and very close knocking off the other two teams St Louis and Arizona, divisional rivals also with great defences. The Patriots are a whole new enchilada and a team one would be foolish to ignore. Belichick and Brady worry me the most then comes your tight end and receivers namely Wes Welker. Can New Englands defence stop Marshawn Lynch? that there might be the key and special teams. the giveaways and takeaways will play a role here. Brady seems more durable then the rest of the elite Qbs in the league and is making very good decisions right now.

I do not think anyone is underestimating the Patriots in this game.

I've been saying for weeks that this will be one of our toughest games, and that Seattle has one of the 2 best defenses in the NFL along with San Francisco.

I will also put the St Louis Rams into a category that is right below these two, likely exactly where the Arizona Cardinals defense is. It's no coincidence that all 4 NFCW teams all have stifling defenses. My only point is that we'll also have another one coming up here in 2 weeks that a lot of people will surely underestimate. The good thing in that game is that the Rams have a helluva time scoring on offense, which will obviously help....but boy, their defense can be tough too.

We will play some tough defenses this year for sure: ARZ, SEA, BAL, STL, SF, HOU (6 that I consider 'tough' )

With some potential for 'lesser' defenses to also rise to the occasion, thus giving us our best shot: MIA, NYJ, and maybe even one of DEN/BUF if not both, would have been selected a few weeks ago based on past performance and then current repuation (which did not work out too well for teither of them)
