Is this secondary going to cost us another shot at SB(merged) glory?

New England Patriots Defensive Secondary:

Dennard - rookie
Ebner - rookie
Wilson - rookie
Dowling - 2nd year
Moore - 2nd year
McCourty - 3rd year
Arrington - 4th year
Chung - 4th year

Let's not pass judgment on the defensive secondary until the end of the regular season to determine whether or not the first and second year defensive secondary players have developed and/or improved.

As for Gregory, I'll just bite my tongue for now.

I'm not really worried about this secondary costing the pats another SB. Mostly because if the defense folds again (2006,2007,2011, week 3 2012), fans here will convince me it was a the offenses fault for not running out the clock with first downs and I will probably begin to believe it.

:bricks:

When you have more money tied up in the QB than the ENTIRE SECONDARY put together, then it's really the QB that should be winning you games. Not the secondary.

Brady should be putting up more than 17 points in the SuperBowl.

i think if pats had giants pass rush, the 2ndary would be great, mannning had allllllll day to throw. the cbs were usually very near wrs. yea they certainly dont like to turn their heads around.

broncos ol was holding all game, no prob its peyton

Based on the "genius" that is patsfans.com, Houston has an elite defense.

Two weeks ago, this "elite" defense gave up 25 points and 330 passing yards to Denver.

Ian, seriously...this site has become a caricature of itself.

When a blog becomes the gathering hole of the dregs of a fanbase starting idiot threads.....you are on the edge looking over the precipice.

Now yes i know it's the great Peyton Manning that tore them up today but it's not just really Peyton is it?

It's Locker, Kolb, Fitzpatrick, Flacco (we all know he ain't all that) and other not so great QB's that literally tear this secondary to shreds every week.

It's like a broken record, 3rd and long surely the Pats D gets the 3 and out but oh no Mccourty and Chung forget how to turn around and how to play corner by giving up a 30+ yard pass or a stupid PI penalty.

Honestly that is an average list of QB's i mentioned and without the immense effort of that D Line and our bruising LB's getting strips the secondary would be made to look even worse than it already has been.

Dennard is seriously the only guy i can say i have faith in so far this season and that's just after 1 game! Mccourty playing well once every 3/4 weeks is not going to cut it i'm afraid

A bit worried that just like Eli proved, when we need our secondary to step up the most they will let down.

Someone please reassure me otherwise and give me reason to believe that they won't.

Absolutely! I was there at the game and as impressed I was with the offense - was extremely disappointed with the corners. Manning was having a field day with our secondary and save for a few drops - this could have gone the other way. We will not win another SB with this secondary. Plain and simple. I agree with you.

No. The pass rush is.

On to the next stupid thread.....

That's because Dennard actually TURNS AROUND LOCATES IT & Makes a play Where McCourty just runs at receivers and gets flagged for PIs. Secondary concerns me with decent passing QBs not mention Elite types. Guess we need more of a pass rush to help'm out.

Dennard made 3 beautiful Pass Defenses that were text book coverage.

Im very concerned about Devin McPI. Hes back.

Bring back Hank Poteat and Earthwind Moreland!!!!

Law and Brown on Manning and McCourty

Good videos

Law: How I succeeded vs Peyton Manning

Should the Patriots bench Devin McCourty?

I feel like the biggest difference between Law/Harrison/Samuel and the DBs since is the older group used to play the QB, whereas the current DBs just play the receiver.

Talking about not being baited by Manning's pump fake -- unfortunately the current group of DBs also wouldn't be baited cause they have no idea what Manning is doing cause they're staring at the receiver the entire play

Can he still play?

EDIT: Damn mods

The best team does not always win the Superbowl. Luck (especially in the injury dept) plays a bigger role than most are willing to admit. So even if you think the secondary is no better than last years there's a reason to keep watching.

A lot of that was in garbage time sorry. It was 31-11 at the beginning of the 4th quarter. Manning was under 200 yards before that.

This defense is better in every way than the defense that came within a whisker of the title last year. And there is reason to think they will improve, so it is good to consider where improvements are needed. Compared to last year, they show vastly improved tackling throughout and much stronger against the run. Pass rush is a little better if still mediocre. But the propensity for receivers to run past defensive backs for big plays persists. Getting beat over the top is worrisome when going up against teams with speed on the outside, which is most of the better teams. And it is the thing our offense lacks. Our offense depends on consistency and long drives. We cannot allow other teams to answer quickly with big plays as we saw Sunday. If they can learn to keep the plays in front of them, the Patriot will be a force in the playoffs.

This thread makes me glad I wasn't allowed to chew on lead paint chips as a child.

As long as the secondary comes together for the playoffs than I'm not too worried. They are very suspect at the moment however.

I would love to see Wilson and Fonz win starting spots soon.
