Dabruinz, would you like to see Dennard over Moore? Should Dowling get more playing time? I would give both much more playing time over Moore. I usually disagree with you so I'm interested in your opinion.

What I would like doesn't matter.. I want the coaches to put the best players they have out there on any given week. And those players need to know their jobs and execute. No point in being on the field if you can't execute.

But, let's understand. The play of the secondary is tied into the play of the front 7. If the front 7 is getting pressure on the QB and forcing him to make throws flat-footed or on the move, or without being able to step up, then the Secondary's job should be easier. If the secondary is doing their job in coverage (being it Man or Zone) then that should by the front 7 time to put more pressure on the QB.

McCourty has his confidence back. That much is clear. He's getting his head around much more often than he did last year, though still not all the time.

Arrington was burned again, today. This time by Stokely. Not sure why he gave Stokely a free release at the line , but he did. And it was clear he shouldn't have. Arrington seems to be good for 2-3 1st downs by the opposing offense a week..

Moore - Is the most physical of the Pats CBs. His game speed is better than his timed speed. That's why he's been able to make plays. His jams on Thomas weren't enough though.

Denard - Seemed to hold his own against Thomas. Hopefully it will mean more snaps during the game.

Dowling - Don't know what's going on with him. He and Denard seemed to have passed Marquice Cole on the CB depth chart for the time being.

Pretty sweet paragraph Bedard at the Globe:

...It was evident that the Broncos were having trouble defending the Patriots' passing game through the first half. Brady connected with Wes Welker for nine passes through two quarters for 71 yards. (Welker finished with 13 catches for 104 yards). The Broncos adjusted with an emphasis on defending the pass, bringing more defensive backs into the game. That's when Ridley and Bolden went wild, allowing the Patriots to control the clock. The Patriots possessed the ball for 35:49.

And to think after a year I took you off ignore??? Goodbye!

You are the one who claimed it was an egocentric play. Explain it. Or can't you be bothered because you know it wasn't?

But.. But.. But.. that can't be true.. The Pats don't know how to close out games..

Devin, For the Love of God, Please Turn Around

Please. I'm going to shoot myself otherwise.

The game wouldn't have been as "close" as it was if Chandler Jones wasn't getting held on every single play.

I really don't get it - what has to happen for him to get a call? Is it just because he's a rookie, and he needs to build a reputation before the refs will call anything? He was flagrantly held, the kind of holding that is inexcusable not to call, at least four or five times that I counted.

Re: Devin, For the Love of God, Please Turn Around

It sounds like your problems are bigger than his.

Re: Hightower hurt?

Just checked the stat's and didn't see his name. Hope its not serious.

I got to watch the Panthers lose to Seattle. They have a good defense but not much on offense.

Hope the game is on TV next week BUT I just looked and the Giants play at 49ers same time. I'm sure that will be the late game here.

You will not likely get the Pats game as it is in the late slot on CBS and not part of a doubleheader. The only way you possibly get it is if the Panthers are playing a home game at 1:00 that is not blacked out.

Re: Chandler Jones being held a lot

I don't know what, but SOMETHING needs to give. My dad and I were screaming at the TV a couple of times - he's getting mauled out there and not getting the calls. Dunno why, but it's kinda BS. He REALLY got raped by Oher in the BAL game, and it's a trend that just keeps going on...

Somebody must have mentioned it but I have not seen it at least not given its due.

The pace the Pats offense laid on the Bronco's in this game for so much of this game was just unbelievable.

First, I cannot believe that the Pats OL is able to sustain itself using that sort of game tactic and I just do not know how a defense can prepare for that when it is going to be coming at you all game long....I just that was an unbelievable job by the Pats.

How confusing would it be for a defense if the Pats went to swinging the pendulum back and forth between no huddle with fast tempo and huddling with normal tempo. While you might think huddling and normal tempo would not be much of a problem, switching back and forth would probably drive a defense totally nuts.

Defense

Why is our defense so vanilla??? Why can't we scheme better to cover up our weaknesses in the secondary? I just don't understand BB's philosophy on this, week after week the quarterbacks would carve up our secondary and i dont think it's the lack of talent in the secondary either it seems like our defense is just easy to read to any QB, giving our secondary a huge disadvantage.

Re: Defense

You're not going to outsmart an elite QB. Your best bet is to out-execute them, and the Pats did that today.

Let me get this straight.

You hold an all time great QB to seven points through 3 quarters and only give up 21 because of a fumble and you post this?

Your real problem is not a vanilla defense but a problem of idiot posting.

Ian, really.....this is absurd

Well i agree its hard to play against Manning, but look at EVERY QB we have played including the Titans game with Jake Locker, all of them were putting up major yards on us. We were just fortunate enough to get a lot of opportunistic plays thus far. And our secondary track record has been terrible since Romeo Crennel left.

Ok after reading the forums for some time I decided to post a few things.

1) Pats won, after all that is the most important thing. Of course there were a few things that shouldn't happen (McCourty being burned, the 4th & 5 etc ...) but it is the regular season and do you guys remember 2010? They wiped the floor with the Jets and they beat them @ Foxborough. Maybe if they hadn't looked as good against them as they did in the regular season, they would have won that game. It's October and I rather see them struggeling in some aspects right now than in the play offs.

2) Pats are so damn talented. It's not even funny anymore just how talented they are on BOTH sides. They beat the Broncos, Bills and should've won with an injured Hernandez and not 100% Gronk against the Ravens and Arizona. That's how good we are that even though they had a "bad" game they were playing on par with 2 of the best teams in the nfl according to the stats. Just imagine how good they will be with those 2 @ 100% and the new found running game. The D is so much improved. Chandler Jones and Hightower made a huge impact on this D along with the improved Kyle Love. We kept some great running teams pretty quiet and when they aren't held the DE's look like they can generate a pass rush. Do you remember how much we wanted to see a pass rush? Give the front 7 some credit how good they played in this first 5 games.

3) The secondary isn't as bad as it seems. Of course sometimes they are frustrating as hell but at least we aren't dead last anymore and seem to have some talent that can improve! Dennard looked great and was a projected 1-2 round pick. Ras-I is still a big ? and McCourty had a great game against one of the best receivers in the NFL , Fitzgerald. Chung dissapoints me way more but Wilson looks like a solid option. Of course there is much space for improvement but just remember how bad the secondary was last year.

All in all, just enjoy a win against an old nemesis. Maybe the best offense since 2007 personnel wise, a much improved front 7 and a sub par secondary, looks on paper like a damn good team :D

How about we just close the thread and you refrain from personal attacks and name calling for now on?

Ian could have a different view once he reads this.

Why are you so mad bro seriously? Stop getting so butt hurt. Its my opinion holy ****. I love how you focus on 3 quarters of play for Manning and not the entire game. Hmmm lets see, 345 yards with 3 TD's! The reason why he scored 7 points in the first half because our offense was on the field for so damn long.
