BostonHerald.com - Blogs: The Blitz» » Aaron Hernandez, Rob Gronkowski return to practice

Big news on the Patriots injury front today. Tight ends Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski returned to practice.

Hernandez had missed the last seven practices with an ankle injury, and Gronkowski missed yesterday’s session to rest his hip ailment.

Hernandez was limping a bit after running his first route during positional drills and was testing his ankle when he was off to the side. He looked fine after a drill a few minutes later when he had to really stutter-step and plant his feet before turning for the ball.

Safety Steve Gregory (hip), wide receiver Julian Edelman (hand) and cornerback Ras-I Dowling were missing from practice. Dowling was not on yesterday’s injury report.

Tight end Michael Hoomanawanui (concussion) returned after missing yesterday’s practice.

The Patriots were in shorts and shells. Interestingly, this is the first Thursday they’ve been in full pads since Week 1.

If the doctors say he can't do any damage in practicing, he doesn't need to wait until he is 100%. Some injuries don't get worse by playing on it.

Re: Hernandez retruns to practice

meh, put me in the "take your time" camp

i love that hes back this early and if he truly is 100% or close to it then fine but i dont want him back any earlier

Same here, and BB usually does take his time with these. The only exception I can remember is Mayo coming back pretty early from I think an MCL injury in '09 and some believe it may have affected his year, but for the most part BB is very cautious in the regular season.

Glad to hear he's back. I don't think BB would rush a TE back a week or two early considering it took him how many years and how many draft picks to find him (and Gronk, of course)?

I loved how the Doom and Gloomites where saying he'd be out 6 weeks... maybe more... 4-6 weeks, but really six weeks like they (or any of us) really have a clue to AH's specifics.

As with his previous injuries it may take him a few weeks to really get back to normal, but this is a good sign!

... he's a young kid, heals up faster than the "old timers"; however, i would keep him off the field for another week or so just to be safe. We NEED him healthy come January :rocker:

Troy Brown stated yesterday that he doubts Hernandez will be back to normal all year and that his (Troy's) similar sprained ankle still bothers him to this day. Chicken Little Disease infects even the most rational of minds from time-to-time.

Good News, that alone makes Denver have to create a different game plan..

Suspect that if is active on Sunday, he will have limited reps.. but what do I know, I predicted that Chandler would ease into defensive end.

So Ras-I got hurt sitting on the bench?

Re: Hernandez retruns to practice

Some injuries don't get worse by playing on it.

But some injuries run a higher risk of aggravation/re-injury that lessens over time.

Sprained ankles, be they regular sprains or high ankle sprains, are most definitely in that category (take it from a former basketball player).

Sounds like a test day, where they get him into the tubs right after practice and see if they can keep the ankle from swelling back up.

Man, I hated those days....

It would be nice if he is 100% but if not please take time to bring him back. Rather have him at 100% 2 weeks from now instead of 75% this week.
