Devin McCourty

Devin McCourty is the best cornerback on the New England Patriots roster.

I'm waiting for the "Bench Steven Gregory" thread to commence any day now.

The thing that gets me. Gregory has sucked for two straight games and the McCourty haters want to kill McCourty because although he played well yesterday, he really didn't because Fitzpatrick just made him look good in a bad performance The thing is Gregory played against Fitzpatrick yesterday too and Fitzy didn't make Gregory resemble anything close to good.

BTW, I am not yet ready to start a "Bench Gregory" thread or movement just yet. Hoping Tavon Wilson will make that movement unnecessary.

So no corner has ever played an excellent game by your scale.

This is a black dot on a white background.

Literally no one is arguing that. they just pointed out how even if McCourty plays well again next week then all you will say is doesn't matter manning isn't any good.

No, Manning is still good, but he is not making the throws like before when he was the best in the NFL.

Was Manning ever the best in the NFL?

Why wasn't it fantastic? What do you want a corner to do to be considered fanstastic? Excellent run support, solid tackling, 2 Ints and from what I remmeber 1 completion allowed. This is as good as it gets.

My post was complimentary of DM. Yet you have an argument that anything short of characterizing as "fantastic" is an issue?

Fantastic equals "incredibly great". An incredibly great performance by a CB, to me, means he was a shutdown CB. A shutdown CB is someone who the QB throws away from -- is almost afraid to go at him. If you feel so strongly about DM's performance deserving a characterization in that realm, so be it. I did not see that. What I saw is a CB who did his job effectively.....not shutdown, but a solid performance (and what we can and should expect from our top CB).
This is all we need from DM. He doesn't need to be shutdown, he doesn't need to be perfect, he just needs to be effective. If he does that he is golden in my book. And what I have seen on balance, DM appears on his way to delivering what we need. But, again, I did not see a CB performance that was "fantastic" (at least as I understand the word).

Side note: DM makes the 2 Ints from last week and makes the 2 from this week? He is on his way to being Mr. Fantastic :D

arguable. id say no, but hes played for far worse teams than guys like brady, rodgers, brees, or even his brother.

he has put up more yards/td on a consistent basis than brady...but has also turned it over more.

But with the exception of 2007 Manning has had better receivers though. Harrison, Wayne & Clark sure beats the likes of Reche Caldwell!

This guy is the new Maroney or Hobbs of the board.:scream:

true, but im saying more 'team' overall...which is partly the reason for his lack of success.

when brady first started he had a good defense behind him. eli has as well.

Please don't compare DM to those scrubs. DM actually has potential to be a solid to good starter in this league. Maroney never was and Hobbs was a career nickel corner.

I remember getting piled on here in the offseason when I suggested that Charger fans really weren't that unhappy with losing Gregory (because it happened). Posters responded by saying that they were horribly broken up with losing him. I have no idea what people saw, honestly. But Gregory isn't very good and I'm hoping that Wilson can get more and more playing time as the season goes on. Sure, Gregory is better than the garbage we lined up next to Chung in 2011, but that's not saying much. I'm expecting Manning to target him early and often this weekend.

You get "piled on" because the vast majority of your posts are completely useless.

If/when you post something intelligent, you will receive a more receptive response.

It's not that hard to grasp.

I was not comparing skill or lack thereof on the field. I was comparing how divisive certain players have made the board over the years and the McCourty hate is reminiscent of the divisiveness that Maroney and, to a lesser extent, Hobbs caused when they were here.

If you really believe something before you evaluate it, you will always find this.

That idiot Dierdorf is just as bad as many here.

All you have to do is watch the game and listen to his commentary.

I hear you. It's still annoying, though.

There was a film montage Sunday around when Buffalo lead 21-7 showing plays to highlight the secondary weakness.

In it, were plays from Week 1/2. Week 2 had the Heap catch.

OK...hello? the Cardinals had 140 passing for the game. One wonders if this guy realizes that receptions are actually made in this league.

Ya have to wonder what makes these guys think it's so abnormal for an opponet to get a reception, get a first down or........actually score.

On Sunday, the Bills had the ball 15 times and had 6 turnovers and Dierdorf is worried about 400 yards of offense.

Does anyone have a shot of the first McCourty INT? The consensus seems to be that he was beat, but there are a few whispers of there being safety help and McCourty playing trail tech. Can we get a pic that ends the skepticism until he gets torched by Thomas this Sunday?

From what I can see, Either McCourty was beaten, or Wilson missed his deep zone. Because Wilson is rushing from the inside and from underneath the receiver. He is not deeper when the ball is thrown but because it was underthrown he could catch up with the wr.

I does look like McCourty was beat on that play, BUT it might also be that looking back he saw the ball was underthrown and slowed down to make a play on it. It was clear that he was quicker to react to the underthrown ball much faster than the receiver. He did slow down on the ball much faster than the receiver.

But this is only one play in an entire game. This is the problem with criticism of any player. People want to judge the player on one play. I remember Light would play a great game and then let his defender by once and all the talk the next would be how Light was a turnstile.
