Re: Steve Sabol passes

This is a sad day for the NFL, and the league is lessened by his loss.

Re: Steve Sabol passes

Very sad. RIP

Re: Steve Sabol passes

RIP Steve. I am bummed by this news.

He was pioneer that revolutionized the NFL with NFL films.

There isn't a NFL fan who doesn't love NFL films.

I remember as a kid looking forward to Saturday afternoons to watch NFL films. This was during a time when the only NFL you would see is the Sunday games, and Monday Night Football. Nothing else. No Sunday night football, no ESPN, no NFL Channel. NFL Films was the only glimse I had outside of the Sunday and Monday night football.

Re: Steve Sabol passes

RIP one of the greats.

Re: Steve Sabol passes

RIP Steve. Condolences to his family.

Re: Steve Sabol passes

Rest in peace. John Facenda is about the only person approaching the level of the Sabols with his iconic voice.

Re: Steve Sabol passes

RIP to Steve Sabol.

Without the Sabols and NFL Films the sport would be nowhere near what it is today.

The impprtance of what they did is huge. The fact that they did it with such joy and fun is tremendous. They had a great sense of humor and let it show on a few specials.

Re: Steve Sabol passes

The sabols are second only to Edison for what they have done to sports on television.

Re: Steve Sabol passes

Absolutely gutted about this news. NFL films played a massive part in me falling in love with the game.

My experience as well.

NFL films were a big deal growing up in the 70s and 80s.

RIP Mr. Sabol.

Re: Steve Sabol passes

Few people in the world can ever look back and realize they changed something forever. Steve and his Dad did just that with how they viewed - and presented - the game of professional football.

RIP Steve, thank you,...... you were a great person and made a wonderful contribution to the NFL fans everywhere.

NFL Films' Steve Sabol, 69, dies of brain cancer - CBSSports.com

NFL Films president Steve Sabol died Tuesday morning after an 18-month battle with brain cancer. He was 69.

Sabol was one of the driving forces behind NFL Films -- which has allowed fans to see a different side of football for the past 50 years. His father, Ed Sabol, recently inducted into the Hall of Fame, started the company and convinced the league to let him film the 1962 NFL title game. Eventually, Sabol, with help from Steve, started NFL Films, and the league was never the same.

Everything you see on Inside the NFL? NFL Films. Much of what you see on the NFL Network and NFL.com? NFL Films. The wonderful documentaries on football? NFL Films.

Steve started with the company as a cinematographer in 1964, and from there, he began building the company of which he'd eventually become president.

RIP Steve a loss for all NFL fans.

Didn't know he was ill, glad he got to see his Dad go into the HOF.
