Waters' Locker Cleaned Out (Update: Reports Nameplate Taken Down)

Yup. We have thrown some serious garbage out there over the years and they've almost always been better than average as a unit. Even without Waters we have one of our most talented o-lines of this era.

You're kidding right? :bricks: This is far from the most talented group we've had. Last years Light - Mankins - Connely - Waters - Solder/Vollmer was much better...

OK, even if they're great as a single unit, how confident are you that they will all stay healthy the whole season?

Our best O-lineman is coming back from ACL surgery.
Our second best O-lineman has reoccurring back issues.

If those two were to go down (even for a game or two), how confident are you that our backups can keep Brady upright?

On top of that Solder/Cannon are very inexperienced and are going to be called upon to play major rolls this season.

Keep in mind our O-line is consistently very good each year and every year it seems to be the Pats downfall come playoff time. I'd say - even with all the starters healthy - this is the worst Pats O-line in a long time.

If Vollmers back acts up again in the season and i think it will...the O line is going to have a tough go at it. I don't expect waters to be back anymore so vollmer is key IMO

Yup, Vollmer's back has been issue for years now I believe...

And back issues are the worst out there. Surgery when i was 18 on my back. Issues everyday...back problems suck..

I call your Pat Harlow and raise you 1 Eugene Chung.
My recollection is that Harlow was a pretty decent player. Chung stunk.

Not anything like he was supposed to be for the first overall pick in the 91 draft.....Harlow was a huge disappointment, almost a Kenneth Sims like disappointment.

Bill was on WEEI this afternoon and it didn't sound promising. I think they totally miscalculated the situation and are just now realizing it.

The Big Show’s host Glenn Ordway asked the Pats coach if it was possible for Waters, who is under contract, but yet to show up, to end up on the roster somewhere down the road.

After a long pause, Belichick answered this way: ”Is it possible? . . . I guess. I don’t know.”

Im just another newbie poster. I don't have a reputation to uphold.

That said.. I'm here to say I was wrong.

This isn't a case of relaxed rules / shadow roster move by the Patriots. :(

Looks like he's holding out for whatever reason (more money or a transfer).

Since college....he's was a medical redflag coming into draft.

Personally, I'm ending all hope and moving on.

Connelly should be able to play his position without too much of a downfall, although the line is certainly weaker without Waters.

I'd love to have him back, but it doesn't appear as if that's going to happen.

Personally, I've basically closed the door on Waters coming back. The only thing that still bugs me is this: Why didn't BB think of signing any additional O-linemen? Sure one could argue that he just assumed Waters could come back, but it seems extremely uncharacteristic of him to bank on one player being there without a plan B. Was it because there was a lack of good O-linemen to sign? If that's the case than couldn't he have looked for the best option available. I'm not quite knowledgeable about all this, so perhaps someone can clue me in on whether or not any good o-linemen were available. Anyway, in regards to the O-line, the Pats have their work cut out for them. I'm certainly not buying all this BS that every good D-line in the league will be sacking Brady 9000 times a game and tearing up both his ACL's, but Vollmer's back, Mankins coming off a torn ACL, along with the inexperience of Solder, isn't helping me sleep well at night. The best case scenario is this IMO, Mankins return is as smooth as Welker's was during the 2010 season, Vollmer stays relatively healthy (plays at least 10-11 games), and Solder settles into the LT position. I'm sure that by the end of the regular season, the O-line will be decent. But what worries me is that by that point, TB might have some nagging injuries to deal with that affect him during the playoffs and doom us.

Update: today Nick McDonald farted on me. It was traumatic. Now I'm getting a Febreze bath by some kid in a Patriots Polo.

We signed Gallery and Koppen who were starters last season, neither of which worked out probably as hoped. There weren't exactly a whole lot of other options out there, and at the time we seemed to be in good shape. Obviously it would be nice to have Waters back but we'll still have a good line without him, as long as Wendell can hold up at Center.

Why not Connolly at C and Cannon at G? Reps or no reps for Cannon at G, rather him on the field then Wendell.

While the prospect of Cannon developing into a 1/2 way decent guard seems very reasonable to most of us, Bill Belichick apparently disagrees.

Waters had a great year last year. But he is 35 and his best years are clearly behind him If the Pats can't win because a 35 year old guard doesn't show up they are not a championship caliber team.

I think the players they have are young and will improve. If and how much they improve will be a big part in how far they go.

did you not see him play last year? He was amazing for us

Yea I don't know what that guy is talking about, Waters was probably the best guard in the league last year.
